@@jonmakesbeats Don't fool for it man, this is the dude that works at RadioShack just trying to trying to sneak his way into your life. He's gonna ask you to spit a rap real quick anytime now...
This dude just knows his way around a machine. I have an Octatrack and even with the manual I haven't figured that thing out. Not only does he unlock its mysteries with each upload but he gets ahold of a totally different machine and instantly creates an immaculately textured beat.
They are typically pretty similar. You learn one it can adapt to others. One thing you can do is use your daw to send midi to your outboard gear. That way you can program the MIDI in the PC if you have problems playing it. It's great to bounce hardware to FL studio and sample in it. More user friendly an you still get a little grit from the bounce.
I love what you said about taking your time. I feel like it's a continuation of the idea you brought up in a previous video that the process isn't only about the fastest workflow possible, but about enjoying the process itself, or something along those lines. That's dope you got the X-SE hook up! If Ableton said "here's a Push 3!" I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take it haha.
Man this beat.. If someone in the late 90s or early 00s had picked this up it would be an all time classic award winning track I'm sure about that! Goosebumps
bro where do you think he got his influence from? Haha But think about it: if he was alive then... he wouldn't have had all that to pull from because it wouldn't have happened yet and if it was happening, decent chance he wouldn't have know cuz the internet in the 90's wasn't like it is now
Yoo, when you threw on the bass and the different atmospheric textures, it really came to life. Also, really dope warmth to it when you ran it through the tape. Much love from Denmark! I'm super jealous of the MPC X SE. Makes me wanna get one :)
You earned my sub with this vid. Sick beat! I used to make beats years ago, but life got in the way and I fell off. Now I'm building out my home studio and getting back into it. Workflows have changed a lot over the years, and it's interesting to see how the craft is done on newer gear.
Yo, I’ve had my Mpc and stuff for years gone through some and lost some, bought new ones. I have never learned anything until I started watching you bro. Learning even from your octatrack videos! Kuddos Jon! Keep going!
Making electronic music as a form of therapy was what got me back into it after a few years off from steady gigging and session work as a live musician. Now i make music everyday again, its just from the comfort of my home instead of in bars, basements and studios and i am happier almost across the board. I do miss the live crowd side of things and collaborations.
One advantage of a big device like this is that the amount of sound per square inch is much less, helping you to create those pockets. Well played, Gareth Churchill!
I kind of just discovered you within that last couple of months and your videos are always playing for me at work. you really ignited that inspiration to make beats again. thanks

@jonmakesbeats I came to the comments just to thank you for taking the time to show us what this device was good for - not to mention bringing Waldorf awareness into my life. Which I equal parts thank you and am pissed about, bc you know choices have to be made. This beat ended up going so hard. Those textures are marvelous, brother. Only later, thanks to a previous commenter, did I realize you are indeed Jon Wayne. Young legend. I don’t throw these words around lightly, so please take your flowers, sir - You are the man. Really happy to have found your channel. “We need more musicians” is an evergreen piece of inspiration many of us needed.
This channel is so underrated. I really appreciate the work you put into your content. So much content on the internet these days is just garbage that tries to sell you something or brain rot... This channel is a consistent escape from that. also I fw the jacket 🔥
I was a naysayer on MPC. Looked pretty good but I didn’t think it was for me. 3.0 Beta workflow peaked my interest so I bought a demo of the One +. It was so good I returned it after a week and ordered the MPC X SE. I am thrilled with it. I had been kicking around the idea of getting a workstation but this more suits my needs. Like you said, it’s therapeutic. I just get on it and go and go and go. A lot of my other hardware I don’t gel with and most of it doesn’t sound as good either. I was kind of expecting the MPC not to sound so great. It’s not an old school machine. It’s got that new school flavor. It’s not a DAW but has a lot of the best features of one. Most of all, I like the workflow, the sounds and when I use it, I don’t want to stop.
How about we petition Jon to make a track using all the oohs and ahhs when he thinks something is fire. We can even let him cheat a bit and let him put his random humming bits in for background vocals? 20 likes and he’ll do it!!! Come on guys put him out of his comfort zone. Synths are too easy for him to make beatzzzz!!
You mentioned how the OT is super nice because it filled the frame of the video and it was easy for viewers to see it and all the options and parameters as you were making beats. Well I think this MPC is killing it in that regard too. It's just visually nice to look at, has tons of information thats easy to pick out by the viewers, and fills the frame nicely.
3:09 very VERY therapeutic! I have a theory many in the artist community are neurodivergent either in a known or as-yet unknown way. Many forms of neurodivergent conditions come with a side of sensory sensitivity that results in you actively stimulating on purpose, known as “stimming”. Mine (I discovered I was autistic at 45, but I’ve always known that mine) is stimming by tapping my fingers. Relaxes tf out of me. It’s like tactile ASMR, and some sounds relax me (vinyl crackle is one). So when I’d make beats? I’d spend forever just hitting pads for that reason and ended up with music.
I have both , they are both great , the soft synths on maschine are way better than the MPC ones , the sample chopping is easier and more fluid on the MPC
These are challenging times for anything Hip ! I salute you ! He mentioned "mental health" I can definately understand that! Good job Sir John keep it up! Omg Franklin fire in Malibu right now yikes! Near Pepperdine University I hope this has nothing to do with German in Venice GIV

Was super cool of them to present the arrangement
Vids/beats like this make me realize how important it is to understand scales and chords to make the ideas in your head come out right
