I made mine out of a piece of rod from a printer also. They are a good source of rods, springs, clips and such. Only mine is the fountain pen kind of scriber...(has a cap and does not retract). You are exactly 167 times more skilled and inventive than I.
She's a beauty. I still can't get over the tolerances and finishes you get out of that damn Minnie though. Looks like I am going to have to get serious about tearing mine down and going through it the hard way. This after 3 years and some major upgrades to the saddle. Right now I am going through another tail stock I bought that has the cam lock but sits way too high. I even made myself a small hand scraper. Oh the joys of the Chinesium Mini Lathe. I'm liking that HSS cutting tool you have though. It seems to work real well.
Gday Phil thanks, yeah the trick with these machines is to lock up all the stuff you're not using. Eg, I lock the compound when auto feeding & sometimes the cross slide. I ground that cutter to not hit the live center when doin small stuff but use it for finishing passes as well, it's this months favorite go-to cutter
Ohh... im still learning quicker techniques, but a beginner should be able to make this in about 3 hours !! I showed a friend & he asked "wheres mine?" So i made him one in about 90 mins, cheers
I’ve been trying to figure out how the springs works with the tip. Any chance you can explain how it retracts? Is there anything on the top that the springs latches onto? I’m so determined to make one of these 🙏🏽 Best design I’ve seen by far
Love how the pointy end gives that board, The Business.
Yep... my go to scriber, does the trick... still sharp after months of use, cheers
