59 Billy Riley - Lyrics
1. Old Billy Riley was a dancing master.
Old Billy Riley, yo, ho!
Old Billy Riley, screw him up so cheerily.
Old Billy Riley, yo ho!
2. Old Billy Riley was a master of a drogher.
3. Old Billy Riley was a ladies man.
4. Old Billy Riley and his little Mrs. Riley.
5. Old Sally Racket was of Kingston town.
I spent quite a packet on her silken gown.
6. We loaded our packet with some sugar and rum.
Goodbye to Jamaica, and the girls and sun.
7. We're bound to the northward to the ice and the snow.
We're bound to the north, up to the ice and snow.
8. When we get back to Bristol Town,
We'll drink and we dance, and sorrow will be drowned. - Розваги
Ahoy from 2023!
We actually use "ahoy" as a greeting here in the Czech Republic so Ahoy Sean:))
Ahoy !
It's nice to hear how different this version sounds from the one in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. That one has a completely different rhythm to it. It's like hearing the difference between Spanish Ladies in a Major and minor key. Thanks for recording another great shanty for us, Seán! :D
I love the “HAULs” in this one.
I don’t think you sang the song too slowly. It certainly was sung very quickly at times, but the shantyman could slow down if the crew is struggling or if the work was heavy, and the “haul!” makes it sound like there is indeed some hard work going on here.
Another classic! Thank you Seán, for putting up these Shanties :D
Another brilliant rendition of a classic shanty! I always look forward to seeing what you come out with each week, Seán, and you never disappoint!
Dude, I love this version. It's got an almost waltzy cadence.
Looks like a great place, my compliments to the proprietor and as always, my compliments to you! I love the Billy Riley shanty!
It's always fun to hear familiar shanties sung in new ways!
definitely not my favourite, but still very epic. thanks mate, cheers 🍺
Sean Billy Riley was a dancing master
Came here looking for this comment! And he was a ladies man. 😎
@@Kelly_Grey don’t forget he was also a master of a droger
I love the hauls! Also, I think this might be the first time I’ve heard a shanty say “yo ho”
Great to hear a cool but different version from a classic black flag shanty!
Funny, Sean just talking about his little boar food haha
I’ve been researching how Biley Riley was and still have no clue sadly
Merci encore Sean! Bon appétit!
Well done. Different from some versions of this I've heard from others.
A wonderful version! Slightly different from the one I'm used to (which I think may be the Black Flag one) but I liked this one just as much if not more. Thank you for doing your part to keep this community alive!
A beautiful version of the song Seán. I enjoyed it being a bit more musical to be honest.
Would you bring on David Coffin as a guest one week
Serious moustache envy
Say hi to Gerbette from my part will ya Sean?
I will.
