When it comes to the whole saga, you’re absolutely right. But that first novel sure has all the elements of the classic hero’s journey story. Isn’t Paul fifteen at the beginning? Classic!
My pleasure. Wasn’t sure there was much appetite for it, as it seems there are more reviews out there for this book than nearly any other Folio, but I like to document my own collection through the videos. Glad it gave you what you needed! I didn’t cover the binding much in the video, but I should tell you that it is top tier on this release. You know how most big heavy books get a bit beat up and look sad or sag a bit after a full reading? Well I made my way through the whole thing, and my copy still looks pristine. The book opens so well, and that buckram on the cover holds up nicely. I know it comes at a premium price, but they really do go above and beyond with the quality on these more expensive editions like Dune and Anansi Boys.
The Dune edition from The Folio Society is absolutely captivating, and it's definitely worth considering for a purchase. The illustrations are exceptionally well-done. I recently subscribed to your channel because I was searching for a nice look at The Folio Society's editions, and your video conveniently came up.😊
Glad you found me and that you enjoyed the video enough to sub! The book was already worth a purchase on its own, but now that it looks like they are going to be doing the sequels, it's a no-brainer. I'm working my way through their version of Messiah right now!
I did indeed fumbled the names! I tried to be mindful of this in my recent Dune Messiah video, but I messed up a few of them too. "Tleilaxu" still gives me nightmares!
@@oilyboy7243 Nothing like ‘official’ pronunciation on fictional/fantasy terms! Thank you though - Lielaxoo is much easier to say than the way I was imagining it was said!
@Upgradeyourbooks points for you, friend, that you actually read it first! My pronunciation I was lucky to get was from the film/s, so you're no slouch or johnny come lately but actually reading the books, not that others aren't reading the books. Just me, I gotta catch up! It's all good! 📖 📚 🏜 🗡
I rarely spend this much on books, but I just had to have this edition of the book - I loved it so much that I picked up Dune Messiah as well. Hopefully Children of Dune is also in the works.
They do hurt the pocketbook, but there is some pretty good value there for the dollar! I also hope CofD is in the works...do you have a preference on which artist (Sam Weber or Hilary Clarcq) you'd like to see on it?
Thank you for the kind words, and for the pronunciation help - I really fumbled the names. I tried to be mindful of this in my recent Dune Messiah video, but I messed up a few of them too. "Tleilaxu" gives me nightmares!
Ha! Believe it or not, I actually did watch a video on it before hand. But you know how it is - you read it 'wrong' in your head for years, and you can't truly unlearn it. It becomes your core 'cannon' pronunciation. I tried to fix it in my subsequent Dune Messiah video, but even there I can hear my personal pronunciations creep through. Made-up words and places are the worst - I often reduce "Tleilaxu" to a half-grunt that starts with "T".
@@Upgradeyourbooks reading is not wrong and it's actually a point of pride, I've learned, that you actually first encounter the word from actually reading vs me just hopping on late and "knowing" from various tubers and the films and interviews what the pronunciations are, while I've YET to actually sit down to read the novels fully! So kudos! 🎉 📖 📚
If your intent is to compare editions of the book, a plot summary is unnecessary and, frankly, a waste of time. We already know the plot. If we didn't, buying the FS copy would be WAY out of our consideration.
Brilliant. Please never stop doing these. I love it
Wow. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I'm working on the next one right now, and don't think I'll be stopping any time soon!
Frank Herbert’s Dune was not an example of the hero’s journey but a warning of following false prophets.

Thanks for doing this, really wanted a better look at the folio edition!

Minor quibble, Atreides is promounced A-Traya-Dees

@@UpgradeyourbooksAs far as I've heard, I think its pronounced "Lie-lax-oo". Take that with a grain of salt haha

The Folio edition of Dune is the first folio book I bought. I've upgraded a few of my books, but still kept the old copies. LOL
Well that's a heck of a nice one to start with!
Aaaaay......ce 0:01 is my go-to first choice to read the books first and then later collect them if I'm able and ready, willing to... 📖 📚 🏜 🌌 🗡 🐛 🧂 🌶
Ace is also my first choice for the initial read - I just love that trade trim-size. It’s the best for reading on the go!

Good video, with one annoyance..."A-tray-dees". It's based on Greek. And the Folio edition is gorgeous, with Dune Messiah recently released.

did you do a search on how to pronounce "Atreides".

I like doing the plot summary, and I’m going to keep it for now. Sorry you feel that they waste your time, but thank you for the comment anyway!
Lol you should have a drink or something before recording, you look like someone is off camera pointing a handgun at you :D
I’m pretty scared on-camera. You should see my earlier videos. Even more fear behind those eyes!
