I'm indonesian..and i love how you set new standards in indonesian guitar making and bringing new experience to local luthier..thanks a lot mate..i respect and appreciate for what you've done for the community..keep up the great work..👍👍👍 (PS: I've been saving money to get one of your guitar..cant wait to get it on hand)
Really cool, I feel like a Chapman is something I'd be proud to own. Everyone owns stuff and you're happy/unhappy with it based on how it performs at its intended task, you rarely think about who made it, what the company's like etc. I feel like a Chapman guitar is something I can look at the people involved and think 'Yeah, I'd like that' It'd be one of the few possessions I could look at, see the story behind it and be happy with. Rob's a nice guy is pretty much the point :P Can't wait for the lefty models to come out.
GeetarGeeker if you don’t know how to set up a guitar properly you shouldn’t buy one of these. Mine came great with one fret buzzing, I just recrowned it a bit and it’s all good. If you can’t set up a guitar (fixing electronics, finish, action etc) just buy a US made PRS. I bought my Chapmans with the intent of modding the fuck out of them and I couldn’t be happier.
GeetarGeeker not really, the build itself is good and i like the design (ergonomics-wise). I have 3 Chapmans (2 Korean 1 indo) and haven’t had any QC issues other than a buzzing fret on the indo one. If I thought it’s crap I wouldn’t buy them. Obviously it’s not your cup of tea, and that’s ok. It amazes me how some people are so pissed about people liking a certain guitar. I replaced pots and caps on all of them but I did the same with my MIA Fenders and Gibsons. Not to mention the Gibson QC especially for the price is crap. I prefer CTS pots and OD caps and always swap the originals. So the Chapmans fit my needs perfectly. I also love their neck/joint contour. To each his own!
He doesn't own the factory and the employees at the factory do not work for Chapman guitars. He pays a manufacturer (WMIC or in this case possibly Samick since these are made in Indonesia) that manufacture is given the specs by Chapman and an order list, then that manufacturer uses its factories and its labor force to produce the guitars to fill the order for Chapman. Chapman guitars is a guitar COMPANY however they are not a guitar MANUFACTURER.
@@moseisleyblues8492 there's no difference except that one is done in a developed country and the other one is done in a poorer country The craftsmanship and parts and tools are all the same
@@sprenzy7936 have you ever seen anything get made ever? Because there are vast differences in standard procedures and tooling from builder to builder, and especially from continent to continent. Large scale guitar production in the US or UK will be much more expensive. You've gotta factor in safety regulations, insurance requirements, and the availability of space and materials. All of that adds overhead that drives up end sales prices. Just look at the facility they tour in this video. It would be shut down or heavily fined due to safety concerns if it were in the US.
they get a wage appropriate to the scale of their economy and what their country produces/living standards - so probably upwards of 0.50 USD an hr. if they are able to get by in their country with that wage i do not see anything wrong with it. the third world will starve if the first world tanks, and our companies realize they can make more money having Indonesians do it for way cheap since the USD goes a long way over there. everyone is actually better off in this system; the first worlds gets to make more and more money and produce more (which means third world does not starve) and the Indonesians get access to million dollar factories their country does not have the means to produce, so that means their workers get to earn a wage appropriate to their living standards and economy at said factory the first worlds provides them with. They would not have these opportunities w/o the first world and would be working for the military sent to die in a 40 year old submarine that hasn't had a maintenance check in years. it is most certainly exploitation, let's not dance around it and say "oh the Indonesians do just such a good job that's why we're here". I do not doubt the Indonesians do a great job but the truth is they work for cheap because they did not develop like other countries so they get exploited by corporations and their own politicians. I'd prefer these factories to be in America or Britain being made by Americans and Brits getting high wages cause that's means better products and better economy for me - but that's at the expense of the third world's economy as well. Overall, this system works out and the first and third world both need each other.
My Indonesian Vintage Modified 70's Strat bought in 2012 was the best investment for a Stratacaster at less than $250 then this guitar plays and sounds outstanding!
Wow , I am very impressed with the high quality that goes into building Chapman guitars. Awesome video and inside look at the factory. I own an ML2 and love it, but now I really, really want another standard. I do love the Cap 10s, but that white tele style I believe ML1 are just awesome looking and sounding. Congratulations Rob on your awesome line of guitars! What's great is how affordable they are, and how sweet they play..I'm excited all over again...Riff City here we come!
After stumbling across Rabea, yourself and the rest of the crew at Anderton's and watching damn near every video y'all have produced I decided to break the 23 year drought and buy a guitar... AGAIN! I settled on an American Strat HSS and Orange CR60. I am starting all over but I will succeed this time! At that point the collection will grow to two with the addition of a Chapman! I truly enjoyed the passion you not only have for music but for your company and the guitars you produce. I totally dig the way they sound and now seeing the quality and passion that goes into them I support you 100% Chappers!

I have to say, of all your design choices, your fucking headstocks were hit out of the park. They are just fantastic, and that's probably one of the hardest things to get right.
Hey Bob, Greetings to you from your friend in Malta, well done for all of this factory Chapman tour and guitars ,im sure the guitars are all of high top,Brilliant excellent quality Guitars, and soon will get the first one ever in Malta ;-) ,keep it up Buddy
Really cool video, thanks Rob. That new hard tail bridge looks really nice! I have a EVH Wolfgang from Indonesia that one of my favorite guitars, I'm excited to try the new Chapman range out!
Love the look of your guitars just never gotten into the revese headstock look. Wish you had a standard headstock on one line of guitar. Otherwise for me they look flawless. Keep up the great work.
My understanding is a reverse headstock on a t type or s type guitar actually increases the tension on the low E and lowers it on the high E, overall you work less to bend the high stings and probably snap less strings aswell
3 days ago I bought Chapman ML-2 modern "white dove" ... made in Indonesia... To be honest I did it only because of low budget... BUT!!!.. now I know by my own experience - Indonesia absolutely doesn't mean second class... Good job Mr Chapman, it is not a shame to be part of this family :)
Great video Rob! As a person who was born to a Indonesian mother and English father, this makes me immensely proud of my heritage. Keep making great videos rob!
Very informative video. As a player & consumer, this is faith building, Mr Chapman. More companies need to take this attitude that consumers need to know how/where/ etc....; some do but some don't. Thank you.
Oh my god at the row of red ML-3's at 7:33... That has to be one of the sexiest guitars I've seen yet and I shall own one eventually. I am so happy I found out about Chapman Guitars and I can't wait to own one. I love the ML-2 au naturale. Rob, the ML-2 you swapped out with the Blackouts is amazing. I am debating whether or not I will do the same with mine. Cheers from NC!
The first time I tried Chapman guitar..I fell in love with it, and coz I love it so much, I bought 10 more Chapmans guitars, I sold my house, my car renting my girlfriend/s so I can buy more Chapman.. and then, I woke up.. it was only a dream. So would you send me one? I have a friend called Rob too.. isnt great?
It seems that you are living a dream. I'm so happy for you. It's so inspiring and encouraging to see that people like you can do business without compromising quality, people and the fun factor we all need in our life. It's always a great pleasure to see the new vids. Keep on doing! All best to you, the lads and family!!!
Rob Chapman thanks for the reply...maybe chapman guitars can join annual music instruments expo in jakarta, it's call JAPEX...it's like NAMM in USA but in little scale
Man, how cool is it to see an old school factory cranking out instruments, reminds me of the original Fender factory back in the 1950's! Real people making instruments with some help from machines but that takes real skills. Way to go, hopefully the other line is still going - that WMI factory is a beautiful sight to behold, great people!!
If checked it correctly, if you order it to Indonesia, it's even a hundred pounds less than UK price o.O I think the Capt said something about founding special companies/ a special company to make it easier to ship worldwide, I'm not sure though :)
Im your big fan from Jakarta Indonesia Rob, Glad you did it! I haven't check your channel for quite long time, and this video surprised me!!!! Yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Kam M-P If it has the punchyness of a gibbo SG and was blue or green with a nice pickguard, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. That is what I'd like it to have at least. TBH, if they made one, I'd probably buy it anyways lmao.
Ive been a fan of Chappers since the beginning and I think this is awesome, and Im getting my hands on a new Chapman here in the states soon. Thanks Rob
If those were my company's guitars rolling off the production line I'd have more than the beginnings of a semi. I couldn't be happier if I were wearing a pair of velvet pants and doing the final polish with my bulge. Saucy.
I do believe that in maybe 20 years this brand is going to be up there with Jackson , ibanez , fender , etc. It would also be really cool if in the future they were made in England !!
It will be great if the brand does well enough to justify a limited run produced in the UK. That would be a great way to gauge interest a UK produced line
I got a chapman ML1 Standard Modern V2 and I am really impressed with it. It is fantastic. I cannot find a single defect on it. I own a few guitars (including a Gibson les paul, Ibanez Rg 550, Jackson Dinky, a Kramer baretta, etc ) and I believe that the Chapman has nothing to envy to the other guitars which are a lot more expensive. This Chapman is actually my favourite guitar at the moment. I highly recommend these Chapman V2s.
This is impressive. One day when I can afford to, I'll purchase a Chapman guitar and support you guys I've been watching your videos for a long time and your the kind of person who deserves success. Cheers from the states
Nothing against Chapman in particular (sadly how most modern companies do it) but I think its pretty clear that the main reason to manufacture in Indonesia is cheap labour. Though I can't say exactly how much they are getting paid we should both be able to agree/assume that it would be practically nothing compared to similar work being done in US factories such as Gibson’s.
congrats rob on a successful company.... the guitars are beautiful and I can't wait to own one!.....love your you tube channel, God bless bro, your a gifted individual
I love your headstocks! I have this thing where if the headstock isn't to my taste, I kind of don't like the whole guitar even if it's great (Ibanez for example). I think your modified reverse tele style is SPOT ON.
All of you screaming slave labour sweat shops are a bunch of privileged ignoramuses who wouldn't know real injustice if it smacked you upside the head with a rolled up newspaper. Bet you also own Nike shoes which are actually made in Indonesian sweat shops. Cheers from Malaysia Chappers. Hope your brand makes its way over here :)
Whenever I get the money saved up I will definitely be getting a Chapman guitar!! I really have to find somewhere around me that sells them though so I can decide which one I want!! Ps. Rob, I absolutely love watching your and Lee's videos. Y'all are just so down to earth! After watching yall play and just mess around on guitar I want to play non stop until I get as good as you are and then keep going
Some areas (Paint, finish etc) you must wear protection, other areas it is up to the employee. WMI Indonesia is run under strict health and safety guidelines, this helps them work with other huge manufactures like PRS, ESP and Schecter.
It's fantastic that you do these videos, giving us this insight about the guitar factory and your company. I find them fascinating. Please keep it coming! I'm always trying to justify getting the ML3 Traditional. Any more traditional/vintage voiced guitars? Thank you
"No palace for an ego" Except: - Chapman effectively deciding what the ML-3 would be through his signature ML-3 RC - Chapman designing the new Ghost Fret entirely by himself. - Chapman re-designing the entire range after his own preferred specifications. - Chapman vetoing major decisions by the public "for the greater good" Yeah, entirely democratic.
Erik Nyberg he didn't redesign the range? Himself and many others took input from fans and designed guitars from that input. And he's allowed a signature or two, it's his company.
Every single guitar in the range have major changes making them entirely different guitars from the voting process, changes made without consumer contact. No one's arguing against him having his own signatures or designs, he does however undercut the voting process every single time. Look at the ML-3: The public voted it to be a T-type, Chapman stopped the voting process and designed his ML-3 RC, released the signature and resumed the voting process with the condition that it be based on the RC-model (deep carved top and no possibility of a set neck to keep price down, for instance). As close as you get to the definition of "ego" clashing with the concept of collaborative design.
Rob!!! I checked out your guitars on the riff city website. I had no idea that they are affordable!!! I thought they were untouchable boutique guitars. Dude...I see at least a ghost fret in my future. Thanks bro!!!!
Ive been a ESP player for most of twenty five years now but my next guitar WILL BE a Chapman. Most likely the Ghost Fret. Best wishes to Chappers, Bea, and Chapman Guitars on becoming the next PRS.
I love these peek behind the curtain vids where you meet the wizard and think, hey, this guys alright. The passion you and everyone around has comes through. Good work
Haha Rob, that creature outside your room is a big gecko for sure. I go to indo every winter and they make that strange eeeehhhhawwww sound . Love your vids and guitars an will be saving up for one after seeing the quality control and your personal attention to detail to all the guitars ! Thanks
Beautiful guitars. The fact they are all handmade with that extra love and to superb quality.I have to have one in my collection. My hat is off to you Rob,well done my friend.
if i not wrong ...this factory is located in ngoro mojokerto east java indonesia ... cause i live there ... and ibanez premium is also came from the same factory

Thinkin that my ghost fret lunar standard went through the hand of these amazing people really make me happy :)
Also the neck joints in these guitars look sexy. well done Chapman!
J.Enqvist when did they switch from bolt on to set neck?
James Mancar yeah, I thought they would, the original neck pocket looked clunky and uncomfortable
P90s, semi-hollow, reverse headstock....just a suggestion Rob ;)
Graeme Campbell I second this
Graeme Campbell Definitely seconded with semi-hollow!
Graeme Campbell I third this
one more vote, from Indonesia
I 6th this with 7 strings and trem! ',:*D

Because some people assume based on where it’s built. That the guitars will lack quality. So they hit dislike. Some people are just that way
Agreed... why dislike? It is great video !
Am I allowed to say that these guitars are very ugly?
lol yes
Im your big fan from Jakarta Indonesia Rob, Glad you did it! I haven't check your channel for quite long time, and this video surprised me!!!! Yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Is chapman guitars going to make an SG styled guitar?
Kam M-P
If it has the punchyness of a gibbo SG and was blue or green with a nice pickguard, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. That is what I'd like it to have at least. TBH, if they made one, I'd probably buy it anyways lmao.
An SG with a flamed maple gloss finish, in dark blue... with mirror pickup covers... an erection
So they can have a shitty guitar design where the neck dives towards the floor faster than the head cheerleader's panties on prom night? Why?
Ltw Recordings chapman already has shitty designs what's your point
Really happy that Rob is making his dreams come true...best of luck to him and everyone at Chapman guitars
You should eat some rendang chaps!
It is so refreshing, when bombarded with stories about devious chancers ripping people off, to see such lovely people making a bloody good go of it.
Looks like that factory has a lot of skilled workers
Ive been a fan of Chappers since the beginning and I think this is awesome, and Im getting my hands on a new Chapman here in the states soon. Thanks Rob
If those were my company's guitars rolling off the production line I'd have more than the beginnings of a semi. I couldn't be happier if I were wearing a pair of velvet pants and doing the final polish with my bulge. Saucy.
Ha ha ha ha!!
I cant wait to have my hands on my own Chapman. Congrats. Now this is becoming more inspiring. I seriously want some of your guitars.
I do believe that in maybe 20 years this brand is going to be up there with Jackson , ibanez , fender , etc. It would also be really cool if in the future they were made in England !!
It will be great if the brand does well enough to justify a limited run produced in the UK. That would be a great way to gauge interest a UK produced line
thats why i said “it would be really cool" I understand that its super expensive and all but you never know
Diego Vasta 20 year's? na mate give it 5
Diego Vasta answer is no to both of your suggestions
along with all those other great British made guitars such as...
Ughhhhh... that white T-style guitar is just killer. Nice work Chapman!
Rare to get to see people work so hard for so little pay. 🙌
Sherpa Yogi Its what i was thinking they tried a lot harder today...
based on the quality of chapman guitars, and the fact that you have no idea what he is paying them shows that that isnt the truth
Adam Schaapveld for sure
You must not eat out much.
Wow rob , awesome made by hand craftsmanship...exerlent vid matey ... all the best Chris ..
So there's no CNC?
Nope - all by hand.
Rob Chapman wow, that's quite interesting.
How do they keep the neck dimensions consistent?
CNC = computer controlled, so I guess they do it by hand but with a template/guide that provides the consistency.
RNA MUSIC lol what?
congrats rob on a successful company.... the guitars are beautiful and I can't wait to own one!.....love your you tube channel, God bless bro, your a gifted individual
Rob, you need more standard style headstocks, the reverse headstock isn't for everyone so offer both ways.
The thing is... nothing is for everyone, we're doing just fine and I'm happy with our current shapes. I'm sure there will be more in the future.
Hi, what happened to the trussrod adjustment wheel at the neck pickup?? I really liked it!
ooohhh snap, Rob says YOU'LL GET THE REVERSE HEADSTOCK AND YOU'LL LIKE IT!
Rob Chapman BURNNNNN lol I agree rob. standing out is great
I love your headstocks! I have this thing where if the headstock isn't to my taste, I kind of don't like the whole guitar even if it's great (Ibanez for example). I think your modified reverse tele style is SPOT ON.
Awesome vid, Rob. Great to see it coming along as it is. Cheers!
Congratulations on your newborn child! May God send an Angel to watch over and protect you and your family!
my country
Whenever I get the money saved up I will definitely be getting a Chapman guitar!! I really have to find somewhere around me that sells them though so I can decide which one I want!!
Ps. Rob, I absolutely love watching your and Lee's videos. Y'all are just so down to earth! After watching yall play and just mess around on guitar I want to play non stop until I get as good as you are and then keep going
Yo yo yo early squad
Wow, truly inspiring! Rob is a modern renaissance man! All the best to you & co! I think I need to buy one, just to support this great story!
No safety glasses, dust masks.. I'm glad I live in a developed county.
tMattLZ just try to walk on the side of the road here, you'll get more debris than cutting woods 😂😂😂
They do wear both actually...
They didn't even make the owner of the company wear any
Some areas (Paint, finish etc) you must wear protection, other areas it is up to the employee.
WMI Indonesia is run under strict health and safety guidelines, this helps them work with other huge manufactures like PRS, ESP and Schecter.
Manderson 72 I have. Not wearing safety glasses would be about as shocking as not wearing pants.
It's fantastic that you do these videos, giving us this insight about the guitar factory and your company. I find them fascinating. Please keep it coming! I'm always trying to justify getting the ML3 Traditional. Any more traditional/vintage voiced guitars? Thank you
"No palace for an ego"
Except:
- Chapman effectively deciding what the ML-3 would be through his signature ML-3 RC
- Chapman designing the new Ghost Fret entirely by himself.
- Chapman re-designing the entire range after his own preferred specifications.
- Chapman vetoing major decisions by the public "for the greater good"
Yeah, entirely democratic.
Erik Nyberg Its his company dude
Nathan Gonzalez So own the actions instead of operating and advertising under false pretense of democracy.
Wow so cool to see Rob visiting my country! Cheers dude!
Please make a headless guitar.
Mika Tarkela a Strindberg?
Derpberg.
Yes !!! and call it the Horseman with Blood red inlays..... Maybe a a V??
Rob!!! I checked out your guitars on the riff city website. I had no idea that they are affordable!!! I thought they were untouchable boutique guitars. Dude...I see at least a ghost fret in my future. Thanks bro!!!!
tfw no qt indonesian gf slaving in a guitar factory
Ive been a ESP player for most of twenty five years now but my next guitar WILL BE a Chapman. Most likely the Ghost Fret. Best wishes to Chappers, Bea, and Chapman Guitars on becoming the next PRS.
