having worked with people on these kind of issues, I am looking forward to trying this out. It is actually an application of a traditional Gestalt technique. One 'added' value of this exercise is to address the extreme automaticity of schema mode operations. They are so wildly reflexive and over-learned that, by nature, when experiencing the impact of schema mode, the person loses awareness of the affect the mode exists to obviate.
The therapist, by creating the distinction, then hearing the person out, creates a situation where the client gets to hear themselves out, by virtue of progressive, attentive respectful validation. NB: this, of course, virtually never happens elsewhere, as the mode, when triggered outside of therapy, causes an emotional poopstorm that wipes out any hope of this variant of collaborative discovery - a fundamental healing process of CBT.

Not really convincing me that this type of therapy has a point. "It can't hurt" -> yeah therapy is expensive
