    One the original luxury centre forwards, Dimitar Berbatov entertained all those that paid to watch him live.
    But run-ins with gangsters, and playing in the shadows of some of the game's best players perhaps held him back from being one of the game’s greats.
    This is the story of Dimitar Berbatov.

      Yeah, I think most United fans loved him, there seemed to be some impression outside the fan base that we were frustrated with him. Any frustration was temporary - he always gave his best I think for United. The patches were he didn't score was almost like his own frustration was putting him off. Wasn't United's best ever forward but far closer to the best than the worst

    I think there's only one word that comes to mind when I think of Berbatov, and that's "silky." He had quite possibly the best first touch I have ever seen, and everything he did was so soft and smooth it was unbelievable. He definitely fell short in terms of delivering on his potential, but what a player he was nonetheless.

    • @ТониАндреев
      @ТониАндреев 2 роки тому +39

      Regarding the comment about his potential. Maybe he was just unlucky. When he was at Spurs they were nowhere near the club they are now, then he spent his prime at Man United with either too much competition or getting intentionally benched by SAF. In his last season he barely got any playtime. Most of his games were around Christmas when there were a lot of injuries. And he scored goals and showed good form, but still didn't get a proper chance afterwards.

      @@ТониАндреев You're right for sure, but it's still an accurate statement to say he didn't live up to his potential, regardless of the reasons for that. Saying a player didn't live up to their potential isn't necessarily saying luck wasn't a factor or that it was due to something they did/didn't do, it's just a factual statement that their career fell short of what could have been.

    As a Spurs fan, losing him to Man Utd was one of my darkest days. I've never seen a player with such a first touch, an ability to control the most overhit and wayward passes. Sure, he was a defensive liability, never going to press a defence. But somehow he didn't need to. There was a sense he was just playing in a parallel universe, one beating to his own unique metronome. I can't help feeling Spurs was the right place for him, where expectations may have been lower. Sure, he won stuff at Man Utd, but I never felt he was /is as loved as he still is at Spurs

    Nothing epitomises Berbatov more than his goal for Monaco vs Nice in 2014. He gets a ball played to him over his left shoulder, one touch with his right boot and the ball is killed and bounces once. As it rises, he flicks the ball with the outside of his boot and lobs the goalkeeper. All this whilst midway between the 6 yard box and penalty box.

    BERBATOV UP TO DATE:
    At the moment he is trying to become a Bulgarian FA president, but he is fighting with the corrupt and mafia linked people in charge.
    In his team are people you may be familiar with likes of Martin Petrov (ex Man City and Atletico Madrid player) and Stilyan Petrov (ex Aston Villa captain).
    If in the future we see another talented Bulgariansl in the Prem you should know that Berbatov will be in the roots of that to happen.

      I suppose you have to carefully consider the team you're going to and whether their style of play suits you, along with how big they are. Sancho and VDB are modern examples of a mismatch, although its probably a push to say MUFC have a style of play...

    • @javorgeorgiev6130
      @javorgeorgiev6130 2 роки тому

      There wasn't too much thought on his side how he would fit in the team. He just wanted to play for United above all else. I dont think he absolutely had to stay in Spurs, but he could have seen his awkward fit if he bothered to look. He needed a team built around him as a main striker and that was never going to be Manchester. Both him and Ferguson probably thought things would work out somehow and they weren't entirely wrong.

    Early in his bundesliga career we would call Berbo a "Chancentod" here in Germany - someone who is missing the easy scoring chances. But he always had that unbelieveable ball control and when he finally learned to finish I felt that he was the complete striker, he had no weakness.
    And then he came back to Leverkusen with Spurs in UEFA CUP just to score against us - ofc. :D

    No mention of his 5 goals against Blackburn is criminal as is his individual Achievementat both Fulham and AS Monaco, he achievedso much at his time United so anyone sayinghe was a flop is just wrong and didn'twatch him week in and out, i love Berba few players like him.

    My grandfather is from Bulgaria and lot of people there say Berbatov was even more talented than Stoichkov.

    • @SKa-tt9nm
      @SKa-tt9nm 2 роки тому

      Naturally talented? Maybe. More accomplished? No. More skilled? It’s close but also no. Berba was better with his head and his first touch is legendary. Stoichkov was faster, better from set pieces and was a great dribbler. I’ve gone back and watched some of his matches recently. Incredibly underrated passer. Go watch the 4-0 drubbing Barca handed to Man U in 1994. Stoichkov’s pass to Ronaldo for one of his goals may be the best pass I’ve seen - from the center line to the box, beautifully weighted, Romario barely had to move to get the ball. A thing of beauty.

    • @theodoranfilov5101
      @theodoranfilov5101 2 роки тому

      @@SKa-tt9nm obviously Christo Stoichkov is a Ballon D'Or winner. Berba was more naturally gifted is what that means I think.
