1979 Ford Fairmont big block cold start, idle, and rev

This is my 1979 Ford Fairmont. The engine is a 390 with mild upgrades.
- Edelbrock preformer Rpm intake
- holley 4160
- flat top pistons

I’ve got an 83 fairmont futura sedan and a 390 to rebuild. My lil 14 year old brother is a fan of white lighting with Burt Reynolds driving the 71 ltd. He wants to help make the car look like gators car and drive it one day. There is hope yet. Showed him this video that a 390 can fit and he’s extremely happy now. You got my sub.

Back then my buddy was a Ford salesman and his demonstrator was a sharp looking eye catching candy apple metallic red 2 door Fairmont with white interior, 302" V8, 4 speed manual ! Served a single guy well...

Very nice, not many people go with big blocks anymore....we gotta 78 zephyr with 429...sounds great...what headers if I may ask?

I bought the headers from eBay, just a cheap brand I think they were around $100. I bought the cheapest ones knowing I was gonna have to cut a wedge out of each primary tube, bend them a few degrees and tig weld them all back together in order to get them to hug the block as tight as possible.

How long does it take to start on really cold mornings? Does it take longer when you haven't used it for several days?
