Needle Felting SADNESS from Inside Out

- I talk you through how I Needle felted Sadness from the film Inside Out and show you a handy technique for needle felting the details of her jumper and how I felted her hair with Merino tops or roving wool.
I use a pipe cleaner armature so that once I’d finished needle felting Sadness I could put her in different poses, and even create a very short bit of animation at the end.
Hope you like it.

Materials you’ll need:
Needle felting wool in the following colours:
White
Dark Blue (for trousers and shoes)
Light Blue (for face, hands and feet)
Black (tiny amount for eyes)
Mid blue/ Cornflower blue in merino tops or roving (for hair) - I actually bought this from a shop here in the UK called Abakhan’s, they had quite a range of colours in merino tops/roving suitable for needle felting or wet felting. However the make of the wool was ‘Gillian Glad Rag’, they have an online shop here www.gilliangladrag.co.uk/
It was their Merino Wool Tops, 23 micron / 64s, 100g (approx 4-5 metres).
Equipment:
Fine Felting needles, I use a 40 Guage or a 38 would also be ok
Foam or mat to work on
Multi needle holder (optional)
Please Note that the finished item is NOT suitable for children as it contains small parts that can easily be removed and may be a choking hazard.

Amazing video Julie! I enjoyed that you left in your struggles with this project. You are very talented
Aw thank you for this, glad you liked that I left the struggles in, I was a bit nervous about doing this, so it's great to hear that you enjoyed it, I wanted to show that I'm still learning ever time I felt something 😊
I absolutely love watching your process and I can say you gave me quite a few new ideas with this tutorial! Regarding wrapping wool around armature, I found that using prefelt for this purpose speeds the process a lot and you can be more precise at times. I get pre-felt offcuts from World of Wool which are about £9 for 500 grams, and I always have plenty of use for them. Anyway, thank you for yet another lovely tutorial, Sadness looks really great and I'm glad that now Disgust will have a friend too. :)
Aw thanks, glad you liked it and got some new ideas 😁 many thanks for the tip about prefelt from world of wool, I'll have a look 👍 yes disgust had got someone to hang out with at last 😊
Nice Sadness well done you made me giggle .I love your videos . Question what needles do you use ? Happy felting xxxxx
Thanks, glad you liked it, it was fun to make, I usually use a thick 36 gauge triangular and a 40 gauge triangular needle, and a 42 gauge tri to finish off, hope this helps, happy felting xx
