    Just bought it! I’m new to felting. This is my third day. First day I bought wool from Walmart out of all places with a needle they did not mention what size is. I started with just punching on cloth then trying to make a square. After I made two I tried blending the two colors in between. I a little harder than expected. Second day I made a small red chili 🌶️ that people recognize. Honestly it was so pose to start off as an Apple but started to take an odd shape and went with it. Day three was just trying to make a cube look perfectly square and realized due to the brown wool looked a lot like a crouton so now I have a motive. End of day three I felted 5 green abstract thin flat shapes to take place of leafs for a salad I’m building. I’ll probably add two more croutons, maybe two pieces of white chicken and ended with thin strips of shredded white cheese and place it in a bowl for a nice Caesar salad look.

      @@juliesfeltedfriends P.S. yesterday I found my crouton under the couch thinking I dropped it. Today I realized my cat was having fun with my crouton! I guess now I should realized this might be the equivalent of a ball of wool yarn 🧶 😅 guess I can make him a toy or two out of wool.

      😂 yes cats and pets do tend to like playing with your felted items 😊 yes you might want to make him a toy and keep your other felted items out of reach as they can pull them apart if you're not careful 🙂 hope you don't lose any more croutons 😁

    Thank you for doing this video, I got the mat and the needles for Christmas, so this is really helpful. I usually use reverse needles for rabbit tails, and fluff details, so it was good to see the overall effect.

    Being fairly new to felting, I bought a variety of needles. I've been experimenting myself with different needles. One I don't own is a star/twist. Sounds interesting and a good all around needle. I've done many of the kits and have enjoyed the process. My husband and I transport wildlife to a local clinic and I'm working on making felted animals of those we've transported....learning new skills along the way.

    I'll start this by saying Thank you, and here's why...
    I really enjoy learning what I'd consider to be esoteric skills, be they craft related or not. An inherent hurdle in collecting such skills, is finding more experienced people to ask questions. Most commonly, I end up finding tips and tricks videos on UA-cam, but they're several years old. And the channel itself hasn't posted in over a year. Imagine my surprise when I see your channel is dedicated to felting, posts fairly consistently, and it being very informative.

    The needles from my kit are an upgrade from the barebones foam mat w/2 basic needles I started with because they’re multiple sizes/multiple of each(36, 38, 40, 42 G stars) but I guess if I really want to upgrade my tool kit it’s time to buy an assorted needle pack!

    I brought needles that have large,medium & small how do I work out what gauge they would be? I’m just starting out this video I found very helpful & just purchased the ones you are using 🙏

    • @juliesfeltedfriends
      @juliesfeltedfriends  2 дні тому

      Hi there, if you have needles that are only marked large, medium and small, it can be tricky to know what gauge they are, Felts by Philippa does a very good video on different needles which you might want to check out here: ua-cam.com/video/MaOqan4HyN0/v-deo.htmlsi=A2kZpTlNPsdBB8iw
      I would think that the small would be around 40 to 42 gauge, the medium around 36 to 38 gauge and the large be more like 32 gauge. Glad you like the video, thanks for watching

      Aw thanks for this, there are a lot of different needles to get your head around, I hope this video helped a bit, but try not to worry too much, I'd encourage you to just have a play with the different needles you have already bought and see what works for you. Please bear in mind though that the quality of needles can vary, I have some needles that I bought off Amazon that came in a set, rather than from a specialist craft shop, and they don't felt as easily, I show and talk about these other needles in this video about a multi needle tool holder here: ua-cam.com/video/JGOOnYwU_AI/v-deo.html
      I hope you have fun felting a Capybara and thanks for watching

    Thank you for this! I'm picking up new needles soon.
    I have a request, I'd like to do a smooth gradient between colors and I have no idea how to do that, can you sneak that into a short or a "felting skills" video? I'd like to make a little hampster with brown on his back and a white belly and I could do a hard line but if I wanted a gradient, how would I do that?
    I just thought I'd ask in case you wanted any ideas for the channel, but I'm sure you're very busy so no stress from me!

    • @juliesfeltedfriends
      @juliesfeltedfriends  9 місяців тому

      My next long tutorial on needle felting a dog is going to briefly look at blending patches of different colours, so that might help a bit. However I was planning to felt a hamster with long fur but I'm not sure that's what you're after, I'm also planning a 2d picture where I'll be creating a gradient of colours, so that might be more helpful 😊 I'm always very happy to hear what you guys want to see me do, so thank you for this, and thanks for watching

    Loved this - I have the same pack of needles so it was great to see this. Thank you. I used the reverse needle to make a hedgehog (i.e. pulling white fur from under brown to give the effect of spines) and it worked well (tho my first hedgehog was re-purposed after my husband asked if it was a bison). In future videos I'd like to know what you use to de-fluff your mats. And where do you buy all the different types of mats or do you use other household objects as mats? In desperation for a mat one day, I used a sort of sponge designed to clean the chain of a bike (it was my husband's - so maybe his "bison" comment was born out of bitterness 🤭)

    • @juliesfeltedfriends
      @juliesfeltedfriends  10 місяців тому +1

      Aw thank you for this, I love your idea of using the reverse needle to make the hedgehogs spines 👍 I have a lint remover I bought online, a hand held love that helps to get wool left behind of the mat. I have also used a car sponge as a mat in the past before I bought one 😊 don't worry we've all had our felted items mistaken for something else 😁 happy felting and thanks for watching
