Just discovered you Julie! Super videos and lovely, amusing commentary… brilliant all round and you’ve gained a new subscriber! Thank you for your brilliant time saving tips …you’re are definitely not cheating! Xx
@juliesfeltedfriends Naming him was kind of a team work. A friend suggested giving him an icelandic name another friend thought that would be a great idea. So I looked up some names, and we all liked Flóki. And since Elvar refers to elves, Elvarsson refers to being the son of an elf. We all thought this would be a perfect name.
As a felting newbie, I've learnt so much from your videos (and have chuckled along the way) - so thank you!. I've made a few needle felt characters; but have struggled to make them stand up. The only way I've found is to use tiny magnets in their feet and then stand them on penny coins. Magnets are a nightmare to work with tho as they break out of the wool in the early stages and fly towards any piece of metal in the vicinity! And also it's tricky not to blunt my needles on the magnets. Do you have any tips for making your characters stand up please?
Thank you for your lovely feedback, glad you've found the videos helpful and enjoyed them 😊 yes it can be difficult to get characters with just two legs to stand up, I've seen some felters that create a felted base and use a wire armature in their character, making the wire for the legs long enough to go down into the base. Would this work for you? The magnets sound like a good solution but as you say has problems. You could try making a wire armature that has loops in the feet where you can glue the magnets into? then felt over this, it might help to keep the magnet in the foot? Hope these ideas help. I've made a note of this issue and will look into doing a video on it, so watch this space. If you need help with wire armature then this video might help: ua-cam.com/video/0I91vk6BaZ8/v-deo.html thanks for watching
@@juliesfeltedfriends Thanks for your advice! Yes I watched your brilliant video on armature and have been putting the magnets in feet 'loops' as you suggest. Tricky but worth the struggle. I'd even tried (after googling) filling the feet with gun shot wrapped in old tights - the things we do for needle felt! 😆I've sometimes cheated by giving the character something to hold (like a spade) that can prop them up. I'll try the base you suggested. (It would be so much easier to stand them up if people had tails like mice or feet like robins. 🐭🐦)
Oh wow you have tried lots of solutions 😊 I love the idea of a spade 😁 yes it would be easier if they all had tails 🤣 I've found the needle felter on UA-cam who makes bases for their characters, this is one of their videos: ua-cam.com/video/A1SrgQQDuV0/v-deo.htmlsi=AbJfwYe7xHqIHMLh I hope it helps 😊
