Thanks Gert. This one hits extra hard now as Ukraine is fighting for independence like Finland had to in the wars Finlandia reminds us of.
No one should compare Finland's heroic war with the misguided US intervention in the Ukraine. It is an insult to do so. It is people like you who accept the US propaganda about fighting for freedom, while they will be abandoned as soon as the US interest turn to the next country, as it happened to Vietnam, Korea, Aphganistan and Iraq, after they destroyed those countries and abandon them.
@@tvanya It's a tragedy, as innocent people are dying in masses. They don't care about the politics behind the war. Yes, this does hit extra hard, thinking of those people.
5:40 hats off! This hymn is almost as sacred as the national anthem in Finland (and it was the national anthem of Biafra).

Oh this is so beautiful and rousing! I’m Welsh, and in our country, the middle melody (the cantabile bit) is the melody to a hymn: “Gweddi dros Gymru” (a Prayer over Wales). It’s very patriotic, but I didn’t realise until age 14 that the melody was “famous”, and it wasn’t even Welsh! 😆

A wonderful orchestral melody which thankfully transcribes beautifully to the organ - not all of them do - well played Gert. A piece of trivia - the first movement was used in the soundtrack to Die Hard 2 (going back I know) during a particularly dramatic part towards the end when the baddies' aircraft had crashed and the the good guys were landing over the burning wreckage in a snowstorm.
William, I had the same thought. I knew I had recognized and heard Finlandia played before in a movie and it was Die Hard II. So happy somebody else recognized it too! 🎹

Œuvre difficile à exécuter à l'orgue, quand l'interprète doit être aux percussions, aux timbales, aux cuivres, aux bois, aux cordes et au pupitre de chef,
tout ça pour les honoraires d'un organiste ! 😏
Ps : et encore j'ai pris la version sans les choristes. . . 😂

What's the coloured stickers for? are they hints for locations of stops, or reminders which manuals to play......or something else?
The stickers indeed indicate such things. Which stops should be opened or closed, which manual should be played or, for example, a crescendo can be indicated with it.

Finlandia est parfaite pour l'orgue, où l'on peut passer de quasi hymne patriotique à une hymne religieuse, ce qui d'ailleurs n'a pas manqué dans le monde entier, pour la seconde partie de l'œuvre.
Cependant, tout organiste ne parvient pas à la perfection que la transcription exige par la difficulté d'y parvenir au niveau des divers registres.
Personnellement, j'aime assez celui-ci sauf dans l'emploi de certains tempis (et la tenue de la dernière note trop longue).
