    I was an EWHS student in 1970/71 and returned as a teacher in 1993 when it became Para West Adult Campus and was there until it closed and was shifted to the Elizabeth TAFE campus. Many life long memories and a deep connection to the school, its staff and students and the area in general - thank you Will for uploading!

    I never went to EWHS (nor SPHS for that matter) but grew up in the northern suburbs in the 80's-90's and attented Parafield Gardens High School which is of similiar vintage to those former schools. While my former student self probably would of revelled in a schools destruction, looking back now it's sad to see these schools demolished and all that history lost. While school isn't always a great experience, getting older you realise just how big a part of your life it played and the many happy memories you experienced along the way so I now couldn't imagine this happening to my school and I'm sad it happened to them.
    Keep up the great work! I haven't lived in Adelaide for 20+ years now but still have family and friends there and have been back many times over the years but has been a few years since the last time (2019). Love watching videos like this giving me a chance to reminisce on how the northern suburbs looked back when I grew up and when I left it.

    So sad the time capsule was never recovered 😢. It kind of makes a mockery of putting one in place . Looking at the young people, it brings back so many memories of happier times.....( apart from the 'conscription era 😢 ).
    Now to filled with sardine housing?
    Thanks Will

      Yes. The same thing happened with the time capsule buried at Smithfield Plains High School. I guess that's what happens when the ball gets dropped. The intentions must have been good at the time.Of course, none of the schools have lasted very long, either. Thanks again for watching Susan. Always appreciated

    Video turned out great. Glad my demolition footage came in handy lol. Can’t believe there is already houses there and roads. Done so quickly

      It turned out great largely to you, my friend. Thank you, again. Yes - the landscape is a different world, isn't it? Almost immediate

      Yep. I bet those houses will be demolished within 20 years because the foundation is all cracked and destroyed.

    Hi Will another great job, I was keeping an eye out in case I saw anyone I knew all my mates went to this school including my first wife but no luck. I was sent to Freemont boy's technical high school so missed out on meeting girls, until I left school. And wouldn't you know it the same year I left they let the girls in and it became just Freemont high school.😫 The same guy that I play in a musical duo with these days went there, OMG 48 years ago and we are still mates today. I remember we started a band together and my mate was able to hire a hall in the school in witch we practiced every Saturday without fail so I did actually set foot in there at least. My first wife was my mates girlfriends best friend so we were all close mates. After your last video I looked on google earth at Elizabeth West, my old house, stomping ground and the west shopping centre, it was like looing at a totally different place with some things that looked sort of familiar but so weird seeing it as it was in my head and reality through my eyes. Thank you Will for all your hard work putting these vids together so many memories. 👍🏻

      Ah, man. I tried to include as many people as I could, not knowing who is who for the most part, as I actually went to Smithfield Plains High School. In fact, it's my understanding that Freemont High School students went to SPHS for the first couple of years that it was open while Freemont was built. You're very welcome regards the videos mate. I'm happy there is a permanent record of our history (as long as the internet exists, at least). I hope it is promoted in local schools one day. Thank you, again, for watching and supporting. It's much appreciated

    I attended this campus as an adult years after it ceased to be a highschool but before demolition

      Hey David. Thank you for watching, mate. And, for sharing with us. I hope your experience there was a positive one. I know of one teacher who taught there when it was a high school, then stayed on when it morphed into an adult campus. I reckon he must have some stories to tell.

      There'll always be this channel, mate. Sad compensation, though it is. The rise and fall of Elizabeth is breathtaking in speed and scope. Extraordinary

    Sad to see an old school being torn down but I did think briefly , wow that would be a fun job driving that digger lol. Us old men are still boys at heart!

    • @elizabeththatwas
      @elizabeththatwas  5 місяців тому

      Haha. Yes, I've thought that myself. Irony is, just before the demolition began, I went there to do some filming and there, just across the road was a group of high school students waiting for the bus to take them to school somewhere else. I assume they lived local. Back in the day they could have just walked to school
