So basically, this is a toyline about tiny men in rubber suits. It's Godzilla's suitmantion: the toyline. I think something in my head just went KABOOM.
Man, this vid gave me PTSD. I managed to get the both the Megalon/Jet Jaguar and Godzilla/Ghidorah packs a few years back. Could never get Megalon or Jet Jaguar put together and they now just sit in the box. As for the Godzilla and Ghidorah set, one of the ankle ball joints ended up breaking for one Microman. At least I learned that the Ghidorah 'suit' is so stiff that it can stand up on it's own without a Microman inside. The concept of these figure are really cool, but man, the final product of these crossover figures really leave a lot to be desired.
In Seattle where I live there is a "Japan Town" there is a store that had these for retail on shelves. It was crazy seeing actual Japanese Godzilla toys in the wild as opposed to Bandai America toys that were being sold at Toys R Us at the time. The ones that I ended up getting were the MosuGoji and King Ghidorah two pack, and the Showa Gamera. Instead of using the Micromen toys inside of them, I instead built a corded wire armature for their frame which I glued to their hands and feet. It works MUCH better.
Whoa, that way you got to keep the Micro but still have the costume be filled by something! You're a clever one! How was their articulation without a whole other figure inside them? I'm genuinely curious, as if it works much better your way then they should have just made a little frame for these costumes like you did and say that WAS the Micro inside them, and the kid just puts the Micro away when they do a transformation. Way quicker and much less fuss!
Mlb:I'm confident that I'll never remove from his suit again The microman who have to stay like this for the rest of his life without oxygen: guess I'll die
I remember them doing something similar to this with the “dress up a figure as a Godzilla character” thing, but with 12 inch figures (basically old GI Joe/Action Man scale) made years ago. I think it works better there as fitting on alternate clothes work better in that 12 inch scale. Fitting on clothes on a figure that’s somewhere at 4 inches sounds like a pain.
holy shit this is some classic stuff... the nostalgia feels just came pouring over... and how neat was it that they actually made the costumes actually wearable... toys were so cool back in the day

Microchangers were based off GI Joe. Microchangers then went into Diaclone and Hasbro took 20 something designs from the Diaclone line and came up with the names. Megatron was originally going to be based on another gun robot in Japan.
Great video man!! Love to see an in depth video about two of my favorite figure properties!! Used to own most of this Micro / Kaiju line but sold them or gave them to my son in favor of vintage Microman and Godzilla figures. Fairly hard to find them now compared to 5 years ago (apart from "Toto")... really want the 1995 Gamera Microman set again... :(
Damn, those look so cool! Shame that they're so expensive, I would totally love to have soft kaiju "suits" like these! On the incredibly unlikely chance someone in the company in Japan is reading this: U.S. collectors would buy these in a heartbeat if you ever bring them over officially for a decent price! P.S. Where did you get those Shobijin figures in the upper right at 0:55 ?! Those are adorable!
I guess yes considering most of the Microman figures featuring licensed characters like DC superheroes, Devilman, Gachaman, etc. were more like action figures of the characters from those IPs using the Microman articulation system rather than the generic Microman characters (with the chrome heads and translucent bodies) dressing up as Batman, etc.
The only way I could see myself actually playing with these, is if I had more than one of each set, cuz I would still want a set to display in the packaging. It's a cool idea, but it looks like a pain in the ass
Finally found a Jet Jaguar / Megalon set last month. Took them out to assemble Jet, and rewwatched your video to see how much difficulty you had with him. Seemed fairly easy compared to the others, but having dealt with the other figures years ago, this one is seemingly just as problematic. As soon as I thought I had it all together, his foot popped off. Then I'd get his foot popped back on and his shoulder would pop off. ARGH! Did you have any more problem with your Jet?
Yeah I wound up breaking joints on the microman figures from too much force. What I eventually did is glued the jet suit together to make a permanent Jet figure lol. Did the same with the others too (stuffed them with fluff, sealed their openings.
@@MonsterIslandBuddies haha, oh man! That sucks. I finally got mine suited up well enough to stand up on my display, but I know it wont be long before he takes a tumble and one of those joints pops out again. I had glued the Godzilla Final Wars figure I had years ago, but it felt so "hollow" (forgive the pun). Might just glue JJ with the Microman still inside... or very tempted to see if the suit would work better with some of the more slender vintage Microman figures.. hmmm...
As for the Godzilla costumes, perhaps installation of the micros could've been made simpler if you took apart the arms and legs of the micro and inserted them first into the limbs, use the hand and feet pieces to lock them in and then insert the body and head afterwards reconnecting the pieces inside.
I have no idea why just in this one video I'm pronouncing it "Jag-ooh-are"...
