I feel the Monster Tube Godzilla could easily be repurposed for someone’s Diorama or miniature. He could be a guy who is enjoying a day at Comic Con wearing a sorta accurate Godzilla costume.

I'm shocked the knock off Gigan didn't make this list.
That's my favourite by virtue of, unintentionally, giving an idea of what Gigan looked like before becoming a cyborg.
If they ever try to show us Gigan pre-cybernetics and it doesn't look like that figure, I will outright disregard it Nick Fury-style.
I always wondered what he looked like pre cybernetics. Like, did he Naturally have hook hands and feet, or were they grafted on? The buzzsaw was for sure AFTER the surgery, but a lot of him is kinda a mystery.

there's concept art people have done based on the descriptions given from the novel prequel of the Netflix trilogy where Gigan was actually a heroic monster controlled by the aliens where he started off as a pure monster but after every fight with Godzilla Fillus he got more and more fucked up and turned into a cyborg. You can find concept art for it pretty easy. It's the closest we've gotten to official pre-cyborg gigan.

I had a very old Godzilla KO, which my brother named “his majesty” some 15 years before we ever heard about Godzilla (we were around elementary school years, maybe even before that). It was a green vinyl t-rex with stegosaurus plates on his back that looked like he was shouting in pain after stepping on a lego piece. Since it had the plates, we decided immediately it was better then a “normal” T-Rex, and it became the king in our dinosaur toys collection.

My favorite bootleg is the "pre-cyborg Gigan" by Dor Mei. Back in those days China seemed to try to skate just on the inside edge of infringement with their knockoffs, making minor changes, and with this one they accidentally made a really cool concept: Gigan, but with no robotic parts, normal claws, and two eyes. I don't think Toho has ever officially depicted a pre-cyborg Gigan in any official media (although if anyone would know otherwise I'm sure it'd be MIB) and it's really neat that in trying to avoid getting sued, Dor Mei unintentionally made something much cooler than just a simple knock-off. It's 9" tall and comes in either a normal brown or psychedelic yellow/green/orange version; I've got the brown one and it's a really cool find.

Actually, now that I've said that, I'm suprised that a Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla "Rock'em Sock'em Robots" style playset doesn't already exist yet! Seriously, that NEEDS to be a thing! I'd buy that in a heartbeat!

Hey MIB, I currently own a fully functional Big Rex figure. The walking feature still works believe it or not. It was bought for me by my grandma YEARS ago at a yard sale. It’s a sentimental item in my collection. Holding it very close in dearly in my collection to this day.
I can imagine squeaker Godzilla sounds like Eric Cartman
This makes me want an other Godzilla family episode but entirely about the bootlegs or at the very least Big Fella

The figure at 5:11 looks much like the vintage 8" Bandai Godzilla '91 that I own!

I had a bootleg Godzilla when I was little. He walked, moved his arms, it's eyes lit up and it roared...only thing was it was plush instead of just a plastic figure. Like, plush on the outside and mechanisms on the inside.
I don't remember where it came from. But I know I got it for Christmas when I was like...6 or something

Also fun fact about that 5 man figure: that body has been bootlegged into making SEVERAL other characters. Including……..Lion-O! And for some reason, they made a toy replica of the early production Sword of Omens to go with him.

That Fiveman Dinosaur set is peculiar to me. It uses art from the series Dai Sentai Goggle-V, including ripping off the logo, but the name itself is ripping of Chikyu Sentai Fiveman, which, unless I'm mistaken, never aired in South OR North Korea. Weird.
That's not even mentioning that the Google-V never had a Green Ranger!

I had so many of these as a kid. Big Rex actually scared me so much as a kid my parents had to take it back.
I wouldn't doubt that big Korean figure set IS based off a knockoff TV series. We're all aware of Korean made bootleg Japanese series due to their...let's say history together. I remember Phelous doing a review of both a bootleg TMNT toy set AND the ripoff movie it was based off of. Very unnerving. Really ugly rubber suits based on the original action figure designs. That said, I just all the sudden remembered Fiveman is the actual name of a tokusatsu series. I forget if they look like that or not. Catchy theme song, though.
Yes! That set immediately reminded me of Our Friend Power Five and it's mashup of TMNT and mecha toys.

Bootleg godzilla figures still a place of the history of the franchise as it did introduce a lot of people to the godzilla character that became fans despite not being official, great video MIB.

Yeah I had a big rex and had no idea it was a knock off brand. Totally thought it was Godzilla himself. ^_^ I got it as a birthday gift and used it to chase my friend around with it who was absolutely terrified for some reason.
I had the Big Rex toy. It walked, made sounds, and sure did smoke. The smoke didn't last too long. I don't recall exactly how it went but whatever makes the smoke effect ran out rather quickly and dad thought it needed cooking oil to make the smoke work again. It didn't, and it ruined the toy even more.
Man bootleg figures are almost as interesting as the official stuff I hope you cover some more down the line.
One of the very first Godzilla toys I ever got was a knock off, and it's still in my collection today.
It's a little 3" tall Godzilla made out of that rubbery plastic that has just a little bit of give to it. He was molded in black plastic and had green and gold paint. He has 3 rows of plates. The outer two look like normal Godzilla plates, but the center row looks more like Stegosaurus plates.
He also used to have 2 longer spikes running up his head, kinda like gigan... but I didn't like that as a kid so I snipped them off with scissors. Lol
Yeah! Big Rex!!! I had him as a very small kid and he broke sooooooo fast. The smoke effect was cool though. I remember him roaring too.... But that was probably just grinding gears. :p
Also, A+ ending. I was so excited, afraid, and relieved.
First and obviously foremost, nice sweater!!! Ah yes, part 2 of the bootleg/knock offs godzilla toys, obviously we definitely at least own one in our lives. Most do look cheap-looking and it does shows, but some do look impressive that can be easily be mistaken for an actual product (case in point, the 91 goji). Not surprised there's so many of them and they are still being made and sold in certain outlets stores today. Great video!!!
There was a $1 store in the mall near me, and I 100% had those Z Force bootlegs! I had no idea that is what they were, I just thought they were cool cheap space guys.

I had this purple Godzilla, probably about 9” tall and his fins looked more like shark dorsal fins. It was sold alongside a Gigan with 2 fingers instead of blade hands and it also had 2 eyes, it was yellow and green. I remember getting them from our woolworths, where I’m from they had a section separate from the regular toys that were products from Japan.
I also had a shark-fin godzilla i got by my dad when i was like 5, but all the fingers where missing for some reason

Love the korean bootleg - I passed on one a year or so ago, and regret it ever since. One quick note though, this was a South Korean bootleg. North Korea doesnt really make this sort of stuff. I have loads of South Korean bootleg sets in similar boxed sets for Ultraman, Dragon Ball, and other weird stuff. Always loads of fun.

HEY!!! I had big rex, it was my 6 year birthday gift from a cheap uncle, and to this day it frustrates my mom it was the gift I liked the most from that birthday.
That big rex looks like that Godzilla ripoff in the one sega game you mentioned before in a game review episode Also I got the spider mothra and gargoyle from that big tube for free at G fest
I had this very Obvious Gigan knock off figure that i got from the 99cent store that had like regular sized arms with like, two-clawed T-Rex hands... Y'know what: it's the figure that you used to portray Girlgan. I am so sad that i lost that figure cause now that i'm older and better with the arts, i could've customized some parts for it out of polymer clay. But, regardless, i loved that thing

That korean bootleg Godzilla is literally just the bandai godzilla 1991 mold. And it appears to literally be the same mold. Which is already interesting in its own right considering that that specific figure is famous for having a Japanese and Korean version that differ slightly. I had both versions briefly. Nobody quite knows the story behind why those two versions exist but Im wondering if somehow in the midst of all that some bootleggers got their hands on the mold, considering its the same mold and not a recast as far as I can tell.
About 11 minutes late, but still got to ask the question where did you get the first batch of bootlegs I need them.

I haven't seen Goggle V in a hot while (it's the show that bootleg Sentai character came from), but I'm 99% sure that's supposed to be an Olympic Ribbon. See the theme of that Super Sentai was gymnastics and lost civilizations, so they had each of the members have a weapon based on olympic disciplines. GoggleBlue's is a hoop.
EDIT: okay, yeah they had swords. I just checked.

I've been looking forever for my first ever Godzilla toy which was a knock off of course that my Grandmother got me one year in the early 90s that made me the Godzilla fan I am today. The Dino King from Village Toys definitely looks like the one I had! Thank you for this video, I need to do more research on this knockoff toy now!

I completely agree with you at 5:10. That Godzilla figure is surprisingly good for a bootleg and shows no signs of the awful quality they tend to have. I would buy it if I ever found it; it seems to be better than some official figures and it's probably much cheaper too.

There was a Godzilla knockoff toy I remember from my childhood. My local dollar store one Halloween was selling these miniature figures of classic movie monsters. They had kong, a generics werewolf, mummy etc. but one was a Godzilla knockoff that was just called “king of the lizards” and the artwork in the packaging was just a straight up stolen picture form Godzilla 1954. I googled it and the line was called “Creepy Classics” and it came out in 2006

There was a video on America’s Funniest Home Videos that I remember watching that showed a dog getting scared by Big Rex in a bathroom hiding in the tub behind the shower curtain and Tom Bergeron said “After conquering Tokyo, Godzilla’s next victim: A settler’s bathroom” and after it walked past the tub and the dog poked out of the shower curtain, he said “He who sniffs and runs away lives to sniff another day”
