    That was awesome! I got into circuit bending a few years ago, mostly as a fun way to learn about DIY electronics. I was never able to get sounds this musical and usable out of my machines. I would love to hear a sample pack made from recording of this thing.

    Why you did this (because you could) is about the absolute most nutty thing I think I have seen in quite some time...Every build you do is done with the attention to detail level that borders on pre-production unit (solid)! THIS IS WHY I HATE YOU SO MUCH that it turns right back into love! Cheers and great video!

    You've probably sussed this out by now but the firmware ROM has the lower 8 bits of the address reversed to make it easier to route the PCB. Ages ago I wrote a couple of little tools to flip the lines around and back so I could load entirely custom samples, and change the sample names and start points.

      It's all HR-16 with a TR-909 beat. I did end up sending the HR through the Elektron's filters toward the end, but all of the actual synth sounds were generated from the HR-16.

Great idea w/ the mini patchbay, I use a larger one on my bent Boss DS-1. I must be missing some bends on my HR16 because I don't get that absolutely disgusting type of sound (around 10:30 or so). Are you running it on a 9V *AC* supply? All lights up and runs but no sound is what happens if you run them off DC.

    • @isaakhaley4471
      @isaakhaley4471 5 років тому

      @@gordonjcp huh, I'm having that exact problem with mine right now. Lights up, looks like it all works (some buttons have to be pressed harder than others ect) but no sound. Hopefully it is all just because of the wrong power input. Why would DC be different than AC in this case?

    • @gordonjcp
      @gordonjcp 5 років тому +2

      @@isaakhaley4471 The AC supply is rectified, smoothed and regulated to provide the positive and negative supplies for the analogue section. Without that, the opamp outputs will be driven to fully on and you won't get any sound.
      I think off a DC supply the LCD "bias" voltage is wrong too so the contrast is wrong, and there's no contrast pot you can get at like on most LCD kit, just a little trimmer inside.
