Have you ever checked out the solo drums album O Solo Drumbo by John French (Captain Beefheart) There's some immense ideas and lots of rhythmic obscurity's, his playing is very melodic and story like.

Or seven stroke like this it seems a little more symmetrical. I oarticularly like the 7 stroke played like this..
