Hello Asia and BJ ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

I'm with Gabriel, a big Floor fan. That said, Tarja can also sing very good but that doesn't do it in my soul.
For some reason (probably because he thinks everyone else will recommend them) Gabriel does not mention the Trias Perfecta of Nigtwish, being the songs Ghost Love Score (you've just heard), The Poet And The Pendulum @Wembley and The Greatest Show On Earth @ Tampere. The old fans may be a little blasé about them but believe me those songs are the best you'll hear. Just wait a little until you know some other songs before you listen to those songs.
@@Meine.Postma I promote a list of songs that show the musical diversity of the band in the first place. It's true that I don't recommend these songs to beginners. The reason is that these songs have an emotional charge in my opinion hard to reach for those who do not know the band and do not yet have an emotional connection with them, and could have the effect of holding the reactors to continue the reactions to Nightwish. But I consider these songs true masterpieces, and that they should be promoted in the comments to reactors that are emotionally open to Nightwish already.
@@Meine.Postma There are other "hard to digest" Nightwish songs for various reasons for beginners. From the new album - Noise and Tribal. Then - Weak Fantasy. These are wonderful songs, but they can give the wrong impression to a beginner that Nightwish has a one-sided agenda.

Nightwish 1st female vocalist , Tarja Turunen , shes a trained opera singer , you do hear the difference in their singing .
Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen are friends and have even performed on same stage in Belgium in female metal vocalist festival 2013 .

Dutch division Steenwijk reporting for duty!
Hello Asia en BJ. Well you just have met our Valkyrie Goddess!!. Her name is Floor (from Flora) Jansen (pronounce YAhn-sen). She is Dutch. At the moment of this concert she was only 10 month with the band. She stepped in halfway in the mids of the worldtour of Nightwish and she had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. The band is Finnish. The keyboardplayer us Tuomas Holopainen and he writes 99% of their songs. He is our Metal Mozart. The bassplayer is Marko Hietala, he also sings but sadly he stepped back from the band at the beginning of this year. We all hope he is coming back. Emppu Vuorinen is the guitarist. On drums Jukka Nevalainen. He had to retire in2015 due to severe insomnia. He is still with NW but working in the organizing department. He is replaced by Kai Hahto, also a great drummer (we call him the human metronome). He and Jukka are very good friends. The sixth member is Troy Donockly, a Britt. He plays a great variety of instruments but he is famous for playing the UIlleann pipes (pronounce Ill-en), the Irish bagpipes. If you continue to react to NW you're in for a treat because their music is outstanding! This whole concert really is sublime!

Unfortunately I am not a member of the Nightwish army. Im a thrash guy🖖. And a supporter of this page. But I have always been aware of Floor and her absolute God like abilities! I'm totally aware of the fact that somebody in the nightwish army saw their reaction to jinjer and told them about the awesomeness of Nightwish.

The guy on guitar is Emppu Vuorinen! The guy on the keyboards is the writer/composer and his name is Tuomas Holopainen!........ She is, Queen Floor, the Valkyrie Nordic Goddess. The more you hear, the more you will want. This is just a small sample of what she is capable. You will see. Symphonic metal is not something that's really taken off in the States as much as in Europe and South America (YET.)
Floor by the way is Dutch, lives with her husband and daughter (and some horses) on a small farm in Sweden. YES she does have classical training, is also a voice coach, and is a wonderful soul all 'round.
Oh and btw she IS almost 6'1 (6'4-6'5 in those stage heels) and there's a lot of power in this strong woman.

7:46 that's the thing about Emmpu... he is seriously one of the gnarliest, fastest, most on point guitarists in the world, but the way that Nightwish does their music, he always brings *just* enough to emphasize and lift the song as a part of the music, not show off just how technical and fast he is. If you want to see him absolutely shred, you need to watch Romanticide from the same Wacken concert :)
This had been from the Wacken concert (2013), with 82k people plus some change. Ghost love score had been the 13th of total of 15th songs this evening. Can you imagine the stamina she needs?

At this concert, Floor Jansen(Yansen) had just recently been invited by the Founder/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen to replace the prior singer who had fallen ill. Nightwish had worked with her before so there was familiarity. This was the 2013 concert at Wacken(pronounced 'Vahken' Open Air in Wacken, Germany. There were 82,000 fans in attendance.
Nightwish is a Finnish band and Floor is Dutch and yes she had attended a Dutch opera school and also private vocal training lessons in her youth. Floor had also been a competitive bodybuilder in her youth(she is 40 years old this year). She is a big woman at 6'!" 200lbs. Her hands are bigger than mine and I'm 6' 250!
I suggest you react to ALL the Wacken songs but especially Romanticide, Storytime(about Peter Pan with the London Symphony Orchestra and its Children's Choir) and Song Of Myself.

Romanticide, Storytime, Dark Chest of Wonders, Ever Dream, Song of Myself would be a good few songs to get to know Nightwish better. Best live band on earth. Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), Floor Jansen.
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other band members are -
Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland)
Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)
Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland)
Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland)
Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom)
Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013.
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

This is the first video I have seen on your channel, but I wanted to thank you for A) giving a good look at this song, and B) being open minded. You guys were very respectful to this song and this band. I know this band and this genre of music is probably a little outside your wheelhouse and your comfort zone, but you went for it anyway. Thank you! One of the greatest tragedies of this dispensation is how FEW people have ever even heard of Nightwish, let alone Floor and Tuomas (aka “The Metal Mozart”) and the rest of these guys….maybe that’s why we call ourselves the Nightwish Army-we’re trying to fight the world’s ignorance of Nightwish..???

Thank you so much. Love to watch someone have their first Floorgasm. I loved that you did not just focus on Floor but the whole band. They are all fantastic and together they make magic. The base player (Marco) is also a trained singer. When he does harmonies with floor it is like listening to angels singing. Tuomas on the keyboard is the main composer. He composes all that super symphonic big sounds. Not many people in the world can do that. He could run a whole philharmonic orchestra if he wanted to. Actually Philharmonic orchestras around the world have played their music with choir and everything. They have been around for 25 years and are huge everywhere except the U.S, dont know why.

Nightwish Army Sweden did send some scouts to northern Germany. The word was spread and we ended upp with beeing 82. 000 at the Wacken festival, the biggest hard rock festival in the world with Nightvish as the main course. Wacken is cattle country, that is why you se a flaming bull. Welcome to nightvish army.

Her name is Floor Jansen (Dutch). She studied musical theater and opera in a music conservatory. She's a soprano who can sing into the third octave. She joined Nightwish in 2012 after another female lead vocalist, Annette Olson, left.
Nightwish is a symphonic metal rock band from Finland. The guy on keyboard, Tuomas (Thomas) Holopainen formed the band with a guitarist and a former classmate, Tarja Turunen, who was also the band's first female lead singer. All the lead singers the band's have had come from a choir, classical, or operatic background. Holopainen writes all of the band's songs and arranges their music. The guy's a genius.
i usually tell people that watch this performance that it's hard just thinking of it as a song, to me t's an experience.
This performance is a 1 in a lifetime performance as a band, so many moving elements that need to come together to make a performance like this happen.
Most bands can only dream of making such a powerful performance.
