And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). For some reason (probably because he thinks everyone else will recommend them) Gabriel does not mention the Trias Perfecta of Nigtwish, being the songs Ghost Love Score (you've just heard), The Poet And The Pendulum @Wembley and The Greatest Show On Earth @ Tampere. The old fans may be a little blasé about them but believe me those songs are the best you'll hear. Just wait a little until you know some other songs before you listen to those songs.
@@Meine.Postma I promote a list of songs that show the musical diversity of the band in the first place. It's true that I don't recommend these songs to beginners. The reason is that these songs have an emotional charge in my opinion hard to reach for those who do not know the band and do not yet have an emotional connection with them, and could have the effect of holding the reactors to continue the reactions to Nightwish. But I consider these songs true masterpieces, and that they should be promoted in the comments to reactors that are emotionally open to Nightwish already.
@@Meine.Postma There are other "hard to digest" Nightwish songs for various reasons for beginners. From the new album - Noise and Tribal. Then - Weak Fantasy. These are wonderful songs, but they can give the wrong impression to a beginner that Nightwish has a one-sided agenda.

Nightwish 1st female vocalist , Tarja Turunen , shes a trained opera singer , you do hear the difference in their singing . Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen are friends and have even performed on same stage in Belgium in female metal vocalist festival 2013 . Hello Asia en BJ. Well you just have met our Valkyrie Goddess!!. Her name is Floor (from Flora) Jansen (pronounce YAhn-sen). She is Dutch. At the moment of this concert she was only 10 month with the band. She stepped in halfway in the mids of the worldtour of Nightwish and she had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. The band is Finnish. The keyboardplayer us Tuomas Holopainen and he writes 99% of their songs. He is our Metal Mozart. The bassplayer is Marko Hietala, he also sings but sadly he stepped back from the band at the beginning of this year. We all hope he is coming back. Emppu Vuorinen is the guitarist. On drums Jukka Nevalainen. He had to retire in2015 due to severe insomnia. He is still with NW but working in the organizing department. He is replaced by Kai Hahto, also a great drummer (we call him the human metronome). He and Jukka are very good friends. The sixth member is Troy Donockly, a Britt. He plays a great variety of instruments but he is famous for playing the UIlleann pipes (pronounce Ill-en), the Irish bagpipes. If you continue to react to NW you're in for a treat because their music is outstanding! This whole concert really is sublime! I think that Gabriel Bardac will find you in the comments. Each band member is an amazing musician, and of course having a living legend leading the charge with her enchanting, mesmerizing, and hypnotic vocals doesn't hurt. The base player (Marco) is also a trained singer. When he does harmonies with floor it is like listening to angels singing. Tuomas on the keyboard is the main composer. He composes all that super symphonic big sounds. Not many people in the world can do that. He could run a whole philharmonic orchestra if he wanted to. Actually Philharmonic orchestras around the world have played their music with choir and everything. They have been around for 25 years and are huge everywhere except the U.S, dont know why.

Symphonic metal is not something that's really taken off in the States as much as in Europe and South America (YET.) Floor by the way is Dutch, lives with her husband and daughter (and some horses) on a small farm in Sweden. YES she does have classical training, is also a voice coach, and is a wonderful soul all 'round. Oh and btw she IS almost 6'1 (6'4-6'5 in those stage heels) and there's a lot of power in this strong woman.

Great reaction! 👍🤘 Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), Floor Jansen. Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other band members are - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom) Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied. This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013. Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. 7:46 that's the thing about Emmpu... he is seriously one of the gnarliest, fastest, most on point guitarists in the world, but the way that Nightwish does their music, he always brings *just* enough to emphasize and lift the song as a part of the music, not show off just how technical and fast he is. If you want to see him absolutely shred, you need to watch Romanticide from the same Wacken concert :)

At this concert, Floor Jansen(Yansen) had just recently been invited by the Founder/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen to replace the prior singer who had fallen ill. Nightwish had worked with her before so there was familiarity. This was the 2013 concert at Wacken(pronounced 'Vahken' Open Air in Wacken, Germany. There were 82,000 fans in attendance. Nightwish is a Finnish band and Floor is Dutch and yes she had attended a Dutch opera school and also private vocal training lessons in her youth. Floor had also been a competitive bodybuilder in her youth(she is 40 years old this year). She is a big woman at 6'!" 200lbs. Her hands are bigger than mine and I'm 6' 250! I suggest you react to ALL the Wacken songs but especially Romanticide, Storytime(about Peter Pan with the London Symphony Orchestra and its Children's Choir) and Song Of Myself. I appreciate reactors like yourselves as you help bring light to music not so well known in North America, Nightwish only has 4 US, 1 in Canada, shows planned. I was happy that you doubled back on the guitar solo! Emppu is a "tasteful" guitarist in that he plays what a given song requires, no BS showing off, he fits the songs with what they require to feel and flow. You mentioned Jukka, the drummer many times and how hard he hit the skins... Notice even Floor pointed to him at the end giving him props, he had a helluva work out! Marko on bass is a really good singer as well, but sadly wrote us all his (possibly temporary) resignation at the beginning of the year.. One band member, Troy, was not onstage as this song had no part for him to play sadly, even though he can play SOOO many different instruments and sing too! Yes Floor can sing opera, and growl as well, she is extremely versatile. On keyboard is the "Metal Mozart" mastermind behind it all, Tuomas Holopainen.

Simply stated, just watch the rest of the Wacken 2013 show and you will definitely learn a lot about this band and Floor Jansen, the vocalist. I have been following the band and Floor both for over 20 years and they are still as mesmerizing as they were the first time I saw them. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. I have been waiting for the last year to see their new show that was canceled because of you know what but the tour is back on and I will be eagerly seeing them in October for the sixth time. Another good thing to know about this band is that they are all very humble and appreciate their fans. The first time I went to a meet and greet I thought it would be in and out in 2 seconds but no. Each and every member took the the time to thank me for being there and not once did I feel rushed or hurried in any way. Truly amazing people!!

i usually tell people that watch this performance that it's hard just thinking of it as a song, to me t's an experience. This performance is a 1 in a lifetime performance as a band, so many moving elements that need to come together to make a performance like this happen. I saw them in a smaller venue in OKC a couple of years ago! They were sooooo good. I also did the meet and greet and they were all very polite and friendly. Floor was particularly nice.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

I'm with Gabriel, a big Floor fan. That said, Tarja can also sing very good but that doesn't do it in my soul.
For some reason (probably because he thinks everyone else will recommend them) Gabriel does not mention the Trias Perfecta of Nigtwish, being the songs Ghost Love Score (you've just heard), The Poet And The Pendulum @Wembley and The Greatest Show On Earth @ Tampere. The old fans may be a little blasé about them but believe me those songs are the best you'll hear. Just wait a little until you know some other songs before you listen to those songs.
@@Meine.Postma I promote a list of songs that show the musical diversity of the band in the first place. It's true that I don't recommend these songs to beginners. The reason is that these songs have an emotional charge in my opinion hard to reach for those who do not know the band and do not yet have an emotional connection with them, and could have the effect of holding the reactors to continue the reactions to Nightwish. But I consider these songs true masterpieces, and that they should be promoted in the comments to reactors that are emotionally open to Nightwish already.
@@Meine.Postma There are other "hard to digest" Nightwish songs for various reasons for beginners. From the new album - Noise and Tribal. Then - Weak Fantasy. These are wonderful songs, but they can give the wrong impression to a beginner that Nightwish has a one-sided agenda.

Hello Asia en BJ. Well you just have met our Valkyrie Goddess!!. Her name is Floor (from Flora) Jansen (pronounce YAhn-sen). She is Dutch. At the moment of this concert she was only 10 month with the band. She stepped in halfway in the mids of the worldtour of Nightwish and she had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. The band is Finnish. The keyboardplayer us Tuomas Holopainen and he writes 99% of their songs. He is our Metal Mozart. The bassplayer is Marko Hietala, he also sings but sadly he stepped back from the band at the beginning of this year. We all hope he is coming back. Emppu Vuorinen is the guitarist. On drums Jukka Nevalainen. He had to retire in2015 due to severe insomnia. He is still with NW but working in the organizing department. He is replaced by Kai Hahto, also a great drummer (we call him the human metronome). He and Jukka are very good friends. The sixth member is Troy Donockly, a Britt. He plays a great variety of instruments but he is famous for playing the UIlleann pipes (pronounce Ill-en), the Irish bagpipes. If you continue to react to NW you're in for a treat because their music is outstanding! This whole concert really is sublime!

The base player (Marco) is also a trained singer. When he does harmonies with floor it is like listening to angels singing. Tuomas on the keyboard is the main composer. He composes all that super symphonic big sounds. Not many people in the world can do that. He could run a whole philharmonic orchestra if he wanted to. Actually Philharmonic orchestras around the world have played their music with choir and everything. They have been around for 25 years and are huge everywhere except the U.S, dont know why.

Floor by the way is Dutch, lives with her husband and daughter (and some horses) on a small farm in Sweden. YES she does have classical training, is also a voice coach, and is a wonderful soul all 'round.
Oh and btw she IS almost 6'1 (6'4-6'5 in those stage heels) and there's a lot of power in this strong woman.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), Floor Jansen.
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other band members are -

Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)
Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland)
Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland)

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013.
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

7:46 that's the thing about Emmpu... he is seriously one of the gnarliest, fastest, most on point guitarists in the world, but the way that Nightwish does their music, he always brings *just* enough to emphasize and lift the song as a part of the music, not show off just how technical and fast he is. If you want to see him absolutely shred, you need to watch Romanticide from the same Wacken concert :)

At this concert, Floor Jansen(Yansen) had just recently been invited by the Founder/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen to replace the prior singer who had fallen ill. Nightwish had worked with her before so there was familiarity. This was the 2013 concert at Wacken(pronounced 'Vahken' Open Air in Wacken, Germany. There were 82,000 fans in attendance.
Nightwish is a Finnish band and Floor is Dutch and yes she had attended a Dutch opera school and also private vocal training lessons in her youth. Floor had also been a competitive bodybuilder in her youth(she is 40 years old this year). She is a big woman at 6'!" 200lbs. Her hands are bigger than mine and I'm 6' 250!
I suggest you react to ALL the Wacken songs but especially Romanticide, Storytime(about Peter Pan with the London Symphony Orchestra and its Children's Choir) and Song Of Myself.

This reaction was the first thing I listened to at work last night, got home and brought it up again to actually watch it as it was enjoyable hearing what you had to say, and happily hit the subscribe button! I appreciate reactors like yourselves as you help bring light to music not so well known in North America, Nightwish only has 4 US, 1 in Canada, shows planned.
I was happy that you doubled back on the guitar solo! Emppu is a "tasteful" guitarist in that he plays what a given song requires, no BS showing off, he fits the songs with what they require to feel and flow. You mentioned Jukka, the drummer many times and how hard he hit the skins... Notice even Floor pointed to him at the end giving him props, he had a helluva work out! Marko on bass is a really good singer as well, but sadly wrote us all his (possibly temporary) resignation at the beginning of the year.. One band member, Troy, was not onstage as this song had no part for him to play sadly, even though he can play SOOO many different instruments and sing too! Yes Floor can sing opera, and growl as well, she is extremely versatile. On keyboard is the "Metal Mozart" mastermind behind it all, Tuomas Holopainen.

Simply stated, just watch the rest of the Wacken 2013 show and you will definitely learn a lot about this band and Floor Jansen, the vocalist. I have been following the band and Floor both for over 20 years and they are still as mesmerizing as they were the first time I saw them. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. I have been waiting for the last year to see their new show that was canceled because of you know what but the tour is back on and I will be eagerly seeing them in October for the sixth time. Another good thing to know about this band is that they are all very humble and appreciate their fans. The first time I went to a meet and greet I thought it would be in and out in 2 seconds but no. Each and every member took the the time to thank me for being there and not once did I feel rushed or hurried in any way. Truly amazing people!!

I saw them in a smaller venue in OKC a couple of years ago! They were sooooo good. I also did the meet and greet and they were all very polite and friendly. Floor was particularly nice.
