Dude your channel has literally changed the way I've viewed writing as a whole, and your videos truly inspire me to my fullest potential. Thanks you so much!
Grayson, I’m 47. You know more than I knew at your age, and more than I know now. What I’ll tell you is that when you get lost, and you will, potentially for decades, you can crawl your way back to what you love. You have such an amazing head start. Be proud, sir. 😊
Kudos on the mention of dreams. I've built many stories around elements I've dreamt: eerie and haunting occurrences, characters, relationships for characters, etc. I personally believe dreams are our untapped source for creativity.
Underrated channel.🔥 I constantly see Crime and Punishment and Les Mis (two of my fav books) in your vids; I assume they're favorites? Ever thought of a video on writing by analyzing or going through one of them? I'd love to see your thoughts on them
Yes! I write down all of my dreams in my journal when/if I remember them! The more I do it, the more I remember more and more. Sometimes I slack off and I notice that I start to remember less and less, so when I do remember a dream after that, I write it down so I can remember more :D
Re: the usefulness of dreams with writing I’ve been working on a short series for a very long time. One night I had a dream. I was on some other planet, I was at a party, and we were on the beach at night. It was some sort of formal. An old man (dressed in what I can only describe as Star Trek alien style) turned to me and asked, “Have you ever heard the story of the ray and the sky?” I told him I hadn’t. He then told me a story of how the sea had a son, a giant flying (manta) ray. She loved him, but others were mean to him because of his spots, even though she considered them as beautiful as the stars behind him. So she created someone to be with him. She was made of sky, and could fly like he could. They spent days and nights in joy and play. But The Man of Fire, hearing of the Sky’s beauty, sought to attack from far away. He wanted to steal The Sky to be his bride. Then I woke up. Now that story is in my series as - an analogy for the trans-dimensional war at the end - part of an ergodic play that a secret spy network uses to communicate when and where emergency meetings are to be held - an example of how people tend to heteronormalize historical figures (in universe, this story is an elaborate myth based on the murder of one of the goddesses who was in love with another one of the goddesses) And what’s wild? I had written that dream down as soon as I woke up. I found out that 2 years after I had that dream, an artist made a series of pictures of animals swimming in the night sky collecting stars. One of them? A ray. (TBH the shirt isn’t super comfy for me but you know I had to buy merchandise of my dream! 😂)
My number one takeaway from any film is the use of color implemented. I love color theory and I cannot not think of it whenever creating characters or visualizing my scenes as if they were filmed--- what would it look like? What colors (and lighting!) would be in the scene to make it more impactful. And I just watched Cinderella (2015) and holy crap, why don't they make their live actions like that anymore?! Seriously, Cinderella is the only good live action Disney has remade from their animated movies! Like, what happened?! I dare say it's better than the original as well (of course, I have a ton of nostalgia for the 2D animated one and I still love it a lot too) They just did such a good job and every change they made had a purpose and made the story even stronger :D
im doing my first form of official writing work as a part of a writing workshop. its a short story where multiple students from highschool were selected and i never knew that one english teacher in our school is an actual author with multiple books published, with her latest one only last year. so it feels really tense whenever i talk to her but shes so kind and always has a smile on her face. she gave some suggestions about my draft and i really want to make mine stand out
Another way you can write down your dreams is by texting a friend what happened in it. I tend to do this a lot, my first short story outside of school assignment came from a dream.
As a person with chronic nightmares, i try to forget my dreams as often as possible because theyre often horrific/gorey, and usually involves the terrible and gruesome deaths of those i love most. 0/10 do not recommend 😂 so the less i can recall, the better. Or maybe i write the next great slaughterhouse novel 😂😂😂

These seem very nice. I'll take them into consideration.
Thank you for this video
