When I started eating much healthier I noticed that my hair grew MUCH faster (2 inches this summer!), my dandruff went away, my hair stopped splitting at the ends, my acne is a lot better, and my skin is brighter! Definitely works

    - eat healthy, get your daily nutrients (and don't drink alcohol and do drugs)
    - cut your hair every now and then
    - don't wash your hair too frequently and only shampoo your scalp
    - use the right shampoo and conditioner:
clear shampoos (clarifying) for oily hair and pearly/milky shampoos (hydrating) for dry and/or curly hair
lighter conditioners for oily hair and heavier conditioners for dry hair
    - be gentle with your hair
    - hydrate
    drink enough water
use a deep conditioner every week
    - limit the amount of chemicals and heat on your hair. know your hair limits

I've been subbed for years and I remember disliking how your hair looked at times, the state of it, but I like(ed) you I really didn't care I felt that way! If they are damaged is better to cut them off because in the long run they will get worse and break if, making pieces sorted than when you get a trim. Half an inch to an once every six months doesn't hurt.

I'm about a year late to this video, but I wanted to say that I've been growing out my hair awhile and it was about hip length, and I hadn't gotten a trim in AGES even though I knew I should because I was really concerned with maintaining the length. But after watching this video I got inspired and took off about two inches from the ends of my hair, and it already looks and feels so much better that I don't even care that I lost some length. So thank you for giving me the courage to go ahead and take off the ends, with the encouragement that it'll both help with growing it out and make it look better in the meantime! I know the latter is definitely true already. ♥

i had to pause this vid to comment this...... you are very inspiring, watching this video makes me realize so much about my daily habits. i was so confused to why my hair falls out so much and why my skin and nails felt and looked like it was not taken care of. i would do and try everything to "take care" of my self but it was like i was just getting worse. life style change is a must for me, i know that now. cuz my hair and skin show it. not only you help but many other professionals on UA-cam that care to warn other people about how to take better care of them self.

The cutting your hair one is so true. My hair is 3A curly and when I don't cut it, it looks draggy and like it's weighing me down even though it's nice and long. I recently got it cut 4 inches and put long layers in it and it looks so much better and it's already growing a lot.

Thanks Brittney ❤️ I have always had long, thick wavy hair and had no problem growing it. But 18 months ago I lost my husband. Since then my hair has become thinner. I couldn’t understand why, but I haven’t been eating properly, not sleeping well and drank too much wine ( though I have stopped drinking), I realize now I need to look after myself and eat healthier I have gone 4 sizes smaller in jeans. I wasn’t big to start with, but it has taken its toll on my hair.
So thanks again I I will take your advice. Happy new year ❤

Of course cut your hair when you need it but you don’t have to cut it to grow your hair. I haven’t cut my hair in 4 yrs besides cutting split ends of course but I put oils in my hair and I have curly hair. I shampoo once a week and condition it a couple times a week. That’s it. I oil my hair every Sunday and deep condition the next day after washing it. If you take care of your hair you won’t have damaged hair.

The trim thing is so true. I used to shop at this one grocery store for like 2 years when I lived in Dallas and there was this girl who worked there who had the worst split ends I've ever seen. Her hair started out normal at the top but just sort of fanned out at the ends until it was so wispy and scraggly that there was no definite END to it. I could tell she was trying to grow it out and hadn't cut it in a long time but I didn't see it get any longer over the 2 years I lived there, it just looked the same the whole time. I really wanted to chloroform her and trim all that crap off.

Hi Brittney! I've been watching your videos for many months now and you have inspired me to take better care of my hair. Right now, it has been through so many chemical procedures such as bleaching and dying. My hair is very strong, but it is undoubtedly damaged. It has a short cut with side shaves, but I finally decided to grow it out. Do you think I might be able to fix my hair and let it grow as it is or should I cut the bleached and dry ends? Can you recommend me any products or home remedies? Thank you so much! Keep up the good work :)

I am one of those girls where my hair does not grow! But hearing your list there are definitely some things that I can do better that I do not do now. I was thinking about getting my hair cut short and trying to grow it out and after hearing this I think I will try it. Heres hoping!

Try macadamia oil instead of conditioner. As conditioner adds to the build up.

I love how you said to the stylists...don't just process your clients hair to make your môney.
I had this happen to me a few month ago. The stylist said she was going to color correct my hair (which now, looking back didn't make sense because she was removing dark brown and then dying it medium brown) but she did say it was to get the "box color" out (I was using wella from Sally's). The result...she burned half of the hair on one side of my head!! It was a nightmare...my hair is still so damaged and the growing process feels like it's taking forever. Obviously she made her money on me that day, but i would never go back and would never refer her to anyone.
Please stylists, understand that this is a business like any other, don't think about how much money you can make today but how much this new client will give you over years of repeat service, not to mention referrals. Thankfully I think most stylists know this, and I just extremely unlucky by going to her that day.

Grace Jeffrey yeah I had a terrible experience recently with a “color correction” I would have been better off with my dark color because atleast then my hair would be healthy!! My hair is literally falling out AND breaking off. I’ve been box dying for years and it’s never happened to me like it is now after getting my hair “professionally” dyed a few weeks ago. So frustrating and awful!!

Britney I am an ex-hippie (still a hippy) who has always had long hair. I play Blues Harp and write songs. Am, almost, 65 yrs old, been a type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetic) since 1974, sometimes beard, always mustache. My last hair cut was roughly 10 yrs ago (wasn't writing it down) it is now, just, short of shoulders. I am trying to eat right, use coconut, tea tree oil, and shea butter. My hair is greying and starting to fall out (shed). I got here from a search for how to grow long hair. My question is How?.

I would like to see a flexi rod video where you discuss how the size of the flexi rod can change the type of curl you get e.g. spiral curls, hollywood waves, etc. Also, if you could please explain how to wrap the hair with a twist, what type of product you should use (e.g hair gel or something else).
    Thanks so much ;)

Actually... speaking about science... for the washing stuff, science shows that sebum is a major cause of inflammation of the scalp (because of Malassezia growth for example) and inflammation of the scalp (sometimes it can be noticed threw dandruff and dermatitis) can lead to thinning and shedding of the hair (thus causing hair to be harder to grow). Of course, science also shows that friction is a big cause of hair damage, so it's better to wash often, but gently and of course condition the hair. So if a girl has an oily scalp it's definitely better for her to wash it to grow her hair than not wash it in my opinion and it's the opinion of most dermatologists actually.

Exogen is an additional stage. This is a stage when the hair is resting or dormant. This is also a stage that can actually destroy the follicles if people do not follow all the food recommendations you Brittney makes. This also could happen due to aging when you perhaps don't have the circulation you need to stimulate a growing cycle. Keep the circulation of your scalp going.

I agree with Brittany with everything except with the hair cut every three months, if you get the big cut at the beginning of your hair journey and follow all her tips your hair will be healthy you won’t have any splits therefore you won’t need a trim! You can go two years before needing a scissors ✂️ touching your hair!

Do you think I can get away with natural henna to dye my hair ?
How often can I dye my hair with henna without any damage?
Can you recommend a henna hair mask that speeds hair growth?

if you've had ratty damaged hair for a year and you think it's not growing, it's because as it grows, it breaks off at the ends. I chopped mine off because i noticed this was happening, now its growing so fast i have to keep trimming it every 2 weeks until all the color is out so i can grow it out naturally :)
I love listening to your vlogs while i work, specially your story time videos.

Girl. So i was young like 14 and i came in with fairly dark hair and i wanted black on top platinum on bottom.... The lady said oh yea i can do that. I put my my hair in her hands and regretted it so bad. She bleached my underneath hair 3 tims.... WITHIN LIKE 4 HOURS. She even put my under the heater during the last bleach. I was so shy i couldnt tell her how bad my scalp was burning... Right after the appt. I loved it. Then got home and the next day i have my whole lower half covered in a scab 😭 and my hair was just a haybail on my head. She is the reason i dont go get my hair done anymore....

Is it bad to leave in a deep conditioner overnight? I use Shea Moisture hair products and take very good care of my hair and skin. I am growing out my very short hair to an asymmetrical style. My hair grows fast. It's thick and coarse so I use leave in conditioners, like "It's a 10." After I color, I use Ion color conditioner and leave in for about 20 mins. Probably over kill, but I make sure my hair is moisturized well. I choose products without sulfates, parabens, etc., as I prefer the most beneficial products for skin and hair. Thank you for this video!
