Couple of points that worry me that this is Heron (make-in-India and not Tapas) -
1. This report specifically mentions 30-hour endurance. Heron-TP has an endurance of 30+ hours but Tapas's final configuration has demonstrated 18-hour endurance and there were reports that instead of delaying the project, DRDO will freeze the specs to 28000 ft flight ceiling and 18 hours of endurance.
2. "The Tapas-BH, which presently flies with a foreign engine, costs around 40-45 crore with all its mission sensors" but this news says 97 drones for 10,000 crore - so over 100 crore/unit (it may include ground-stations) but still it points to something other the Tapas...

you have rightly pointed out the ambiguity in the reporting the exact type of drone and its name or identity which helps to clarify the type of drone ordered by the armed forces.

I am of the view that we need more drones with both qualitative and quantitative superiority over our adversaries. We need cheaper meaningful options and preferably indigenous ones. Once MALE category is sufficiently addressed, we need to take care of HALE and Stealth category options as well.

Before jumpimg to any conclusion even before the actual details are out or the deal being made.it's idiotic to make any assumption beforehand. Also just like with the MQ9 drone deal, these total figures include packages and not only the drone. It includes radars, groud control station, training, integration of softwares and etc.
When Iran and turkey can make their drone and are effective in the war then it is not difficult for India to make in large numbers and in short duration, in war drones life is short but gives effective results ,its cost is also less and their is no casualty of a pilot too ,we don't require predator drones ,it should be developed by own slowly and slowly, today if war occurs then we will require suicidal drones and our heroin drones and our tapas drones can do surveillance.

Hey alpha defence, can you elaborate why can't we make twin engine fighter jet with kaveri(76 kn) while m88 also produce 78kn thrust.

Why shouldn't we use tapas drones in huge number rather than using 31 preditor. We should firstly export tapas than from that money we should by preditor than it makes little sense.
Both are different classes and use cases one is tested in battle and is high endurance with more altitude so reapers are for only maritime security. Tapas is for land forces.
