    I was trying to repair a child's toy vending machine. A corner of the board broke right off. I superglued the corner back on, and bought a soldering gun. A little scraping and a blob of solder later, it totally worked. I still can't believe it. Thanks for the comment you made at 0:15 to "see if it's small enough to bridge over with solder." That's what I did, and my kid thinks I'm the bomb. Thanks Kevin for taking the time to put this online!!! It really helped me with my first ever soldering project.

    Best trace repair video by far - no others that I found come close. Good picture, great skills and a complete job. It would be great to have some product advice on the final coating though.

    Love your videos. Lots of folks use clear nail polish instead of the more expensive conformal coating. Seems to work fine as well.

    i just fixed my 486 board, the barrel battery leaked some acid on the board and a few traces were damaged, i cleaned the acid off with some vinegar and distilled water, let it dry, then did the repairs and finally got it to post again. soldered on a cr2032 holder and a diode to make it keep the time and settings so i don't have to set the settings every boot.

    I had an arcade machine game board with black traces everywhere really fine traces too, the board must of been left in a garage or somewhere damp as ive never seen so many traces blackened off like this and the chip sockets all were corroded, remarkably the game still worked i sold it on cheap as it was only a matter time and it would of taken a long time to put that right.

    Got a Kenmore dryer board. 300 bucks to replace. Return circuit burn on the relay pin. Common issue. Heavy current load and heat. Melts the solder after 9 years time. Fix this or replace? I'd say it had a good life. I know the motor is now pulling more current because it too is 9.

    Hi Kev! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED YOUR VIDEO. The easiest one yet to follow. Here's my dilemma: I was working on a power supply board for a tv. I made a mistake and place a hole in the trace while trying to remove a mosfet. Can I use wire to connect the bridge. At first the tv had no power. I replaced the mosfet and now at least it clicks. I'm wondering if it the hole and one part of the trace is not connected to the other. HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!! THANK YOU!

    • @The_Active_Region

      This is what I use . www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OA77NG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      You can use clear acrylic nail polish in a pinch.

  • @mw3051

    i have never heard of conformal, please explain. also what would make those circuit traces corrode like that ?
    thank you for your video.

    • @justindavidson6917
      @justindavidson6917 4 роки тому +1

      mw3051 A conformal coating is the same same as the solder mask. Its used to protect high impedance joint from oxidizing. In this case it used to stop further oxidation by protecting the repair from the air. An electrolytic capacitor leaking on a circuit board is usually what causes this kind of corrosion.

    • @The_Active_Region

      +TutorialSurplus I want to make sure that you know what I'm talking about. I didn't use lead I used a lead from a resistor, that is the leg of component not the metal material leadd just making sure you understood. Now this other that I use contains lead..
