I very, very rarely use decks built by other people purely because I enjoy the deckbuilding so much. I think this will be one of those few, accompanied by that absolutely sweet Mardu legendary dragons deck from a little while back! These decks look like they're not only strong, but fun to pilot.
Feel like this deck should be playing Fortified Beachhead. Even with no blue you can still activate with colorless and it's always gonna be untapped in this deck Also it's pretty cheap so still makes this budget
On match 2 game 2, I think it's a mistake to put the plains back, not just because you didn't draw any lands. With the Dawnguard we can find more gas so losing a nonland card hurts less. We could also draw Recruitment Officer or the Reconstruction which can generate card advantage but require 4+ lands. I probably would have put Valorous Stance back but I could see the argument for the Commando and the Cathar as well.
I'm new back to MtG because my son got into it (I left around Kamigawa block. Yeah, I'm old). Picked up a bunch from DU and BroWar in paper and just got started on Arena. I've been playing WB Soldiers. I'll have to look up some of these cards to improve my deck. Looks way more reliable and powerful than my fun but kinda bad pile.
FWIW I'm currently running a bunch of enlist stuff and token spawns combined with a couple of the sweet WB legendaries as one ofs. I'm also running 8 minions that draw a card and sone unearth stuff.
I knew when dawnguard was spoiled it would eventually do something. I've tried it in modern but it's still just too slow but perhaps I put it into the wrong deck.
People ran it in monowhite aggro pre-rotation sometimes. I think the biggest problem it has is simply costing 3-mana, since white has a lot of strong competition in the 3-drop slot - which is ironic since that's also precisely what gives it so many good things it can draw for you when the ability triggers.
Randomly happened upon this almost 2 years later and mono white humans is probably, as Seth would say, the best deck in the format in Standard. You were ahead of the curve Seth!
I remember when standard rotated last time and people were hyped about gavony dawnguard being great in mono W that already was really good, I saw it in at least half of the decks that week and it made me feel like this one of the strongest uncommon I have ever faced. I was a bit exaggerating because I kept losing to it but was so powerful and I still don't understand why people forgot him so quickly after overperforming like this. overall I'm glad to seen that nothing can stand in the way of budget aggro.
Really interest in soldier tribal, will try to build a budget pioneer one with this one as a base. Sadly, my country BrotherWar is still delayed until next month for some weird reason
Back in the days of 3rd edition or revised as it is now known this kind of deck was called a "white weenie deck" and it used a card called Crusade which for silly reasons is now banned
The concede at 20:00 seemed unnecessary to me. You are definitely not dead on board and you have several options: 3 blockers with the land, or 2 blocks and a combat trick, or main-phase valorous stance to transform the Cathar. And you have the out of drawing your X spell to build a big board.
I have been playing a version of this with amazing results. I skipped the Factories as well as the 3 mana day/night creature that does what recruitment officer does. I instead included 4 more mythics, the lifelink guys with kicker that gives all your creatures +1/+1 effectively making it 12 pseudo-lords in the deck. That way a Kayla's for x=2 will usually let me remove the last roadblock creature they own with Brutal Cathar and drop a lord of some type to finish the match. The MOST important card for me has been the one mana Swords to Plowshares-esque card. It is amazing and so cheap that Thalia doesn't slow it down. That is another reason I don't run anything but basic Plains.
This deck looks sweet. Not having seen the full video yet, I wonder if another Valorous Stance or two would be good mainboard. Black is everywhere and it hits Sheodred. Black is everywhere and it saves Brutal Cathar from removal. (My biggest complaint about Brutal Cathar is that it is tempo against a removal heavy deck, but 3 mana historically is a lot for a tempo card).
Neat deck. Was playing something similar on Mythic the other day, but lacked a bunch of rares so it wasn't THAT efficient. Still white is a neat budget colour these days. I did my ladder climbing suprisingly efficient as well with a budget red aggro deck, though. That prowess monk is such a good addition to the red aggro pool in standard.
Did you want something to buy instead of Magic30 booster packs? Well does Seth have something for you! Purchase this list for you and 28 of your closest friends! 🎉
Agreed, the deck is ONLY budget in paper, it's a fairly expensive deck in the online formats (and there's a lot of other Rares that are useable in the deck too....)
I am running a budget 5 color soldier with that runs Hero of the Dunes and around 10 rares in total including the new white and blue soldiers and I can't say it's tip tier, but it wins over 50% of games and it's super fun.
I think it is also because Kayla's Reconstruction doesn't hit it. And, unlike CoCo, Reconstruction can hit three or four, so it is better to just pack the deck with hits
@@MTGGoldfish Makes sense! Playing on Arena, I'm ironically far more starved for rare wildcards than Mythics, so I don't think as much about IRL prices.
17:30 no it is 100% incorrect. This deck is basically white goblins or zombies. While it _can_ do an aggro start this deck wants to grind and to do that it needs resources.
I think even mono-white soldiers should be playing Fortified Beachhead, practically no downside and you gain access to the extra pump effect. Card's cheap too.
i feel like myrel would be a good control tech if your going non budget, if not in the main then at least some slots in the side board since it definitely helps against control and works with the main plan of the deck as well.
While I do like that Soldiers are a real player, I'm a bit sad that it's mono white soldiers instead of Blue-White Soldiers I'm a very big fan of when Blue-White is meta and doesn't play annoying control or tempo, and Soldiers seemed to be the shell for it!
that last game in the loss against mono black you couldve used valorous stance to make one of your creatures indestructible to flip the cathar and take out one of their creatures. not sure it wouldve mattered but it couldve bought you another turn at least
Tbf the odds of not drawing any lands in three draws in that situation is about 20%. So while I agree with you the stats back it up as a defensible choice and a good one 80% of the time.
@Poiri I'm not sure I agree. You keep 3 lands and you're happy with 5 to 6 since you're running bad coco anyway but regardless you're more likely to draw gas than the lands anyway, you're 70% to replace whatever you put to the bottom with another gas card anyway.
I think the bear came out with one of the alchemy sets. I also think it’s bugged. He’s always hanging out in the middle of the screen when I play against him.
The positioning of the Kaldheim bear was bugged for a long time. When they eventually fixed it, they made it start in the middle of the screen before rolling to the normal position as a joke reference to the bug.
