Kimber Mako - Micro-Compact 9mm Pistol Review and Test

- @Kimberamerica already has several handguns that come close to the micro-compact in size, including the Micro-9, the Evo SP, and the venerable Officer’s Model 1911s, known as “Ultra Carry” models in the lineup. However, none of Kimber’s existing products checked all of the boxes, and that’s why we now have the R7 Mako. While it’s fair to say that some consumer fads are worth ignoring (i.e., social media challenges, seltzer water, at-home DNA tests, the Instant Pot) the micro-compact pistol is transcending trends and becoming omnipresent. Kimber’s engineers took note.
Here's everything you need to know about the Kimber Mako 9mm micro-compact pistol.

That music is a big distraction
Interesting video, I bought this pistol, but haven’t used it yet and I’m learning about it. I appreciate the knowledge you share, but I have to say the music in your video is very distracting and it takes away from the quality of your video. Thank you.
This is the fourth review of this pistol I have seen today
Only the 4th? Lucky. I guess I watch every channel that got one
@@cameronf2758 what got me was they all showed up on one day
@Frank Bonazza III I was referring to the videos
You can be heard fine imo...but the music isn't needed
Music 🎵 is waaay too freaking loud 🔊, Adios.
does it have a manual safety
Just for future reference don't wear a black shirt while reviewing a black gun.
Lamar you are correct I just purchase this Mako and it’s 11/13 and the exact same size as G26
How do you like it? I'm thinking about it?
@@angelluis4444 I LOVE it . It has the best trigger ever. Only down fall crimeson hasn’t made a trigger guard light for it yet. Watch honest outlaw review on it you will be amazed
Thumbs down for obnoxiously loud music.
Good option for ccw. Kimber is good stuff.
I pack a full sized 1911 from Kimber but I'm 6'4" so I can pull it off. But it's heavy even for me so I do got a 9mm Sig SP2022 when I don't feel like lugging a brick on some days. :D
I love my Kimber and trust it completely. This looks like a well designed Glock clone.
@@arch3088 It is a Glock 26 clone in size & dimensions, down to 1 oz heavier.
@@1977Yakko You forgot to mention you are "plus size" as those are the major category of people that can pull off carrying a full size handgun concealed in the _love handles._ My huge (large tall & large round) friend in Las Vegas carried a 1911 and actually used it in a self-defense shooting against a mouse gun. My friend scored 3 shoulder destroying hits out of 4 shots fired to the "bad" guy's 0 hits to 0 shots fired.
@@sweetcostarica "plus sized"? LOL! I weigh about 240# so at 6'4", I could stand to lose 10 or so pounds but I'm hardly obese or anything. I tell people, "I'm not fat, I'm just padded." ;-)
Good review. Thanks for sharing.
Kind of hard to hear what you’re saying over the terrible music track.
Hmmmm that range looks familiar...
Thats exactly where my mind went, wasn't even listening for the first minute.
Tti
Great guns I own 2. 2 bundle deals great value and great guns
11 or 13 round magazine.
Great review, but I found the grinding guitar track to be distracting. Skill the background music and just let your information stand on its own -- it's totally capable of that.
Music was great but almost drowned the speech
👍
If I spring for this I will send the slide to Mag-na-port to get the porting treatment. I think it is about $170 and well worth the recoil impulse mitigation.
Screw that porting if you intend to use it for self defense. The flash will blind you at night!
@@arch3088 no it will not. Mag-na-port uses a tapered slim port and it has no flash.
@@jeffreylocke8808 I had a G21 ported back in the 90's and hated it. I ended up buying a new barrel to get rid of it. I have never used a Mag-na-port but if the barrel is truly ported allowing gases to escape from the top of the barrel then I don't see how it cannot cause a flash.
@@arch3088 I would venture to guess a muzzlebrake equipped would blind you in the dark. But the minimal vents of Mag-na-port are so different than my muzzlebrake equipped 460 S&W magnum X-frame revolver that I could fathom that. My model 329PD is quad ported by Mag-na-port and is my concealed carry for my Monarch shoulder holster design from Andrews Leather.
@@jeffreylocke8808 I almost always bow to experience and since I have no personal experience with the Mag-na port I will take your word for it. I still would not use one for self defense without having first hand experience. Good day to you Sir.
The music is annoying and distracting. Couldn’t watch more than a minute
looks like the engineers at Kimber hired an ex-engineer from Glock (Wilhelm Bubits).
Glocks are overrated
Couldn’t watch. The music was too annoying. Consider throttling it off when your trying to explain anything.
I thought it's 11 or 13. Am I wrong?
No your not wrong
First: it's 11 & 13 round mags but that gun is bigger than the Shield and almost as big as the G26...
It looks like a Taurus TX 22
That thing looks like a small, slightly less visually assaulting HiPoint.
Excellent review and demonstration and the music is not bad at all it's not too loud and it's not horrible and you can hear him just fine
TTI 👍
Looks like a hi point and a hell cat had a fugly baby
As tempting as it may be, never rush out to buy a new gun. Let's hope Kimber R7 Mako initial release is not as problematic as P365 was...no matter this gun is a VAPORWARE !!!!!!..and it's no micro !!!!
What’s a vapor ware?
Could not agree more! I remember when the 365 was the Glock killer, now this gun is being promoted as the 365 killer… Sig took a hit with the initial release of the 365…but, in reality the percentage of problems was very small. I’m hoping some prominent company, like Kimber will produce a Chiappa Style revolver. That gun is amazing!
@@craigmiller8902 VAPORWARE is a no show product. only few made for advertisement purposes like UA-camrs and maybe one or two stores. they're just testing the waters since they are late arrival to micro game.
@@richarddilorenzo8188 365X is at the top of the micro world in every way. no doubt about it.i don't even touch the hellcat anymore.
@@WV591 what we’re seeing is the power of advertising and marketing…
Ummm yeH.. whatever.
Dont bother, unless you like clearing jams.
Not true....at all
@@robertsalyers1351 I haven't seen that being a problem with any of the reviews.
Two G3C's
Weight is 19.5 oz's WITHOUT MAGAZINE OR RED DOT.
It weighs 22.6 oz's with red dot and empty magazine.
It's heavy. Period.
Are you sure? With the mag it should add around an oz or so and the ct red dot is 1 oz. Shouldnt it be around 21.6 oz w/ mag and sight? Maybe the mags weight more not sure.
Another Glock clone. Got it.
