The theory of how hiccup lost his leg is interesting. As he was falling, toothless had to grab whatever he could to save him. And doing that he ended up grabbing his leg and pulling him close to save him which ended up removing his leg. I actually really like that because not only are they both missing a part on their left side, they both caused each other to lose that part giving another reason why their bond is so strong and they always stay together.

Agreed. Especially what him saying that meant to them. Names like Ericson or Peterson mean, literally, son of Peter or son of Eric. So Hiccup could have been Hiccup Stoickson. But when he said he wasn't his son, that means he can never claim his Father's lineage which not only is a huge loss in this life, but when he dies, he would not be welcome at the table of his ancestors in Valhalla. It would, also, mean for Stoick that he has no heir and his own bloodline dies with him. It was, quite literally, one of the worst things he could have said to Hiccup.

Random fact: Toothless' fastest ever recorded speed was approximately 950+mph, measured by the supersonic "mach cone" surrounding his body in the short clip. That is faster than a modern fighter jet's cruising speed.
Also, Toothless is the only dragon in the movie to use an acetylene-oxygen charge to create 'plasma blasts' rather than the red fire other dragons use. For reference, plasma can reach up to 17,500° fahrenheit, whereas the red flames used with the monstrous nightmares tops out at a little under 2,000°

Just so you know, there are actually a couple TV series and TV shorts that happen canonically between this and How To Train Your Dragon 2. I'd personally recommend watching through those as well, even if you do so after the second movie. Most of them (especially the series) are still worth a watch. Also, reaction videos to them are sadly rare since most reactors don't pay attention to them, choosing to only do the movies, so it would be great to see you guys react to them!
    They are as follows:
Legend of the Boneknapper (1 half-length episode)
Book of Dragons (1 half-length episode)
Gift of the Night Fury (1 full-length episode/Christmas special)
Dragons: Riders of Berk (20 Episode Season)
Dragons: Defenders of Berk (Season 2 of "Riders of Berk")
Dawn of the Dragon Riders (1 episode special)
Dragons: Race to the Edge (6 seasons of 13 episodes)
Most people end up watching the second movie before these, but the three series explain the big gap between the first and second movies. Out of the three series, I'd say Race to the Edge has the most effects that you can directly see the effects of in the 2nd movie, but they all have at least some impact.

funfact, the red death (the giant dragon king/queen) was originally aquatic in the book. it looked like a living mountain of coral. in fact, one of the sub species of the death dragon family is the purple death, which was an aquatic varient. this varient appeared in one of the mobile games.
also, notice this red death is old and wounded. it's wings are torn and it's horn (notice at at the nose) is broken. a fully healthy one has a proper horn and large wings. the red and green death both reside in volcanos.

5:05 they had a whole new department for fire animation. They studied it and also build new softwares to properly animate fire and make it look realistic. Also for dragon flight scenes the animation team had aerodynamic lessons called “flying classes” but i think that may have been during the production of the 2nd movie i dont remember the details

I am a huge how to train your dragon fan and a few things you all should know about about the first movie is that the giant dragon on dragon island is a female/queen dragon called the Red Death, and secondly Hiccup's leg did not burn off do to him falling head first into the fire instead Toothless accidentally pulled it off when trying to catch him. and the third thing is Hiccup was not asleep a day but was actually in a coma for a couple days.

The BONDING MOMENT is when Hiccup is drawing Toothless and Toothless tries to do the same with his drawing of Hiccup.
Hiccup's attempts to avoid stepping on the lines on/in the shorefront are what lead his footsteps toward where he stands directly in Toothless's personal space.
THAT is when they finally start making progress toward understanding each other.

This film still has what I consider the one of the best scores of not just the HTTYD trilogy, but also modern film scores as a whole. With its use of distinct, beautiful leitmotifs for each major character and the expressive orchestration that shines in the no-dialogue scenes, it’s some of John Powell’s best work, one that I used to listen to on rotation when I was in high school.

I also recommend the two or so series that fill in the gaps between the movies. I also recommend going through to look at all the fan theories. They are super fun and interesting. And the director of the animated trilogy just announced they are doing a live action remake and he will direct. I think thats the "HTTYD 4" you mentioned at 1:50. The score is perfect! So when they show the Vikings sailing into the fog, it wasn't the Green Death(queen bee) dragon that attacked them but a scattering of the ones that had been raiding their village. They were protecting the hive. The reason they were able to finally get to the Nest was because Stoick was following Toothless' movements as he knew the path to get there. it is theorized Toothless bit Hiccup's foot off in his attempt to grab and protect him. Also Toothless didn't unveil Hiccup right away to make sure the vikings fears of dragons was gone. See that Stoick didn't try to attack Toothless or anything once he believed he died.

Genuinely, since the first time I saw this movie a decade ago, it still remains as my favorite animated movie of all time, if not probably one of my favorite movies of all time. There's just something so incredibly magical about this movie, from the flying sequences and the score itself, and Hiccup and Toothless' bond. Of course, I absolutely adore the second and third films too, but this first one has remained uncontested as my absolute favorite.

What I love about Toothless and Hiccups' bond is they connect so much that Toothless understands and can sense Hiccups' emotions easily, also the fact that everytime someone doubts or has something against Hiccup, Toothless just wants to hear an apology from them like when Astrid and Stoick said "Sorry" to Hiccup, that's when Toothless calmed down.

1:32 Ohhh it's more than just 1 movie ❤Over the course of the years, it became a full blown franchise consisting of Christmas Specials, Short Stories, DVD Extra's , Eight Season TV Series ( two on cartoon network, the rest of the six seasons reside on Netflix ) 🤟❤
Here's the chronological order if i'm correct:
-How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
-Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon (2010) - short film
-Book of Dragons (2011) - short film
-Gift of the Night Fury (2011) - christmas special
-Dragons: Riders of Berk (2012) - TV series (Season 1)
-Dragons: Defenders of Berk (2013) - TV series (Season 2)
-Dragons: Dawn of the Dragon Racers (2014) - short film
-Dragons: Race to the Edge (2015-2018) - TV series (Seasons 3-8)
-How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
-How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World (2019)
-How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming (2019) - Holiday Special
-Snoggletog Log (2019) - literally a fun 29 minute Yule Log
Then there's these two series that are kinda aimed towards younger kids (according to DreamWorks, but i think its BS to just keep the franchise going) with terrible animation:
-DreamWorks Dragons: Rescue Riders (2019-2022) - Dunno where this one belong's and i don't want to anyway, its cringy AF with the talking dragons 🤣
-DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms (2021-present) - This one is set set 1,300 years after the third and last movie "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"
At lastly there's a recent announcement of a Untitled live-action reboot film aimed for a March 14, 2025 release with the same director that made the trilogy, i'm terrified, excited and skeptical at the same time with what they could do with it 😐🤨

One of the things about when Hiccup and Toothless grabbed Astrid and flew her around to shake her up. Consider that flying, gliding, bungee jumping, and skydiving are kind of taken for granted by us. But for someone back then, they probably spent their whole lives never being more than a few feet off of the ground. The highest anyone of them, probably, ever got was climbing a tree. So for them to be flying high enough to not only touch the clouds, but to be able to look DOWN upon a mountain would be unthinkable and terrifying. For one of them, that would, likely, be like seeing from the vantage point of the Gods.

Fun fact, this was based on a children's book series by the same name. Though the premise was much different there. In that series, vikings were already training dragons and getting your dragon companion was a right of passage. Hiccup ended up with Toothless... who in that very was a tiny, pink dragon with no teeth and I think no fire power.
What made Hiccup special was that he freaking taught himself how to speak and understand the language of dragons.
Basically the movies just took the names of characters and dragons. Still amazing movies, but I remember being bummed out that the film was such a departure from the books when it came out.

The one documented exception from eel madness is from the Typhoomerang dragon, which utilizes the effects into boosted firepower.
