@@Helenex0rWhile I appreciate the compliment, I wouldn't consider myself to be an expert on chess or chess improvement. My only tip would be to make sure you don't have any big holes in your opening repertoire. This doesn't mean learning a bunch of deep theory, but knowing enough to get a solid, playable position out of the opening.
@@MrIslah It really depends on what you play. For example, if you play the 1. d4 mainlines like me, you barely have to memorize anything. For me, it helped to get a bunch of games in those same positions under my belt.

In the second game when you exchanged queens, would it have been stronger if you had checked with your Bishop first and then take black's queen with your rook? Would you not be up a queen in the end? 33:54
that man played really, really quickly -- usually an indication of a cheater. but no, he's not cheating. i looked through his other games and he also plays really fast in those as well. i have yet to see a game where he drops below 5 min on his clock, even on losses
Well ladies and gentleman, that's how you go from 400 to 2349 without losing! Bittersweet to hit that point, but let's celebrate how long Eric's plot armor lasted him! So many close calls with seconds left. The reckoning had to happen at some point. Amazing and thank you.
In the second game: I was surprised to see you miss the tactic where you could sack the bishop for a full queen, but instead you gave up your queen to be up the exchange.
In game 1 I was really surprised to see such a strong player (2140?) blunder such a simple tactic. And after seeming to have a good think about the move too! 🤔
“Chess is more than just a game; it is a mirror reflecting life itself. On the board, 64 squares hold infinite possibilities, where strategy meets creativity, and every move shapes the future. In chess, every piece has its role-each with strengths, weaknesses, and potential. The pawns remind us that even the smallest steps can lead to greatness, while the queen teaches us the power of versatility. But chess is not just about winning; it’s about learning. It teaches patience in the face of challenges, resilience after defeat, and the importance of thinking before acting. Like life, chess rewards preparation, but it also demands adaptability. Plans may crumble, yet those who stay focused and calm can often turn a losing position into victory. So, whether you’re a grandmaster or a beginner, remember: chess is a celebration of the mind-a reminder that strategy, patience, and creativity can overcome any challenge, on or off the board.”
Ok the first game was so fun to watch, I bought a coffee mug “Ho no my queen!” Great teaching. You are a great calm and skillful teacher, I travelled the world and I met many great men, you one of them.😅
The one where eric basically self destructed due to using 4 minutes to make a bad pawn move? Maybe they did, but just from the game we saw i don't think it looks like they did. Ng5 looks way more natural than axb5 which the engine said does keep a big advantage. How would stockfish straight up stay worse for half of the game and only win due to time pressure when Erics position finally implodes? Also i just checked and the guys a 2500 blitz player. So probably just underrated in rapid.
I'm in the middle of the last game right now and ngl that opponent is very sus. Wouldn't be surprised if another rating refund happened. Playing consistently good moves in those complicated positions at that speed is not something many human players can do.
I wonder if strong opponents who realise who they're playing against, and have been following this Speedrun, realise that Eric has a tendency to put himself under time pressure, and so by playing conservative book chess rapidly they can put the squeeze on Eric even during the middle game. In other words, time becomes a tactic
Is it just me or is it common to be in a sort of mid-700s to 800s plateau that I can’t seem to get past? It’s weird, I feel like Chess becomes more aggressive as your learn it and then more advanced players are obviously more advanced but play a more systematic or methodical approach that replaces the aggressive plateau defining stage I feel like I’m at-or maybe I’m just not as motivated right now, my goal is to get to just above 1000 for the fun of it without having to memorize or study or something
I don't know what time limit you play at but I found that my rating increased when I played at a slower time control. You don't get the adrenaline the same, which some people like, but you get more chance to actually think about the chess concepts. I'd say don't spend too long learning openings. To a point, you can do that as you go along and your interest is strong when you've just played a game and you want to know what you should have done(!) Videos are good but they can be expensive. I'd say, get a good textbook. Levy Rozman's looks pretty good.
