Interviewer: Ilias Katsogiannis
Sound, Video: George Brass(gbrass32@gmail.com)
I wish this guy all the luck in the world man, he's a genuine down to earth guy and a fantastic guitarist
Ive never seen a guitarist being so humble and eloquent. Now I've seen more videos of Guthrie talking than playing.
"No one is going to give you a job in music just because you would like one." So true. This guy is freaking amazing.
So pleased he chose guitar over English lit
Sounds like he chose both tbh
as i expected - he is as developed in mind as on his guitar ;)
genius!
oxford to mcdonalds to professional musician, wow thats quite a swing
'Maybe someone who was being secretly greek' xD Brilliant
Wow, Guthrie can really be inspiring when it comes to playing and getting better. I've been playing guitar for about half of my life and it's people like him who truly make learning the instrument and theory look awesome
Great interview, clever questions for a change.
One of the world`s greatest guitar players with a humble setup!! It makes you think...
Great interview! Its good to see humble guys thats all about music.
guthrie is just a delight to listen to. so refreshing to hear an articulate guitarist.
I don't even play guitar and yet I love this man. I love his music. To me his comments about leaving uni with no career path and trusting things will fall into place, is a very spiritual way to be and live. Whenever he speaks I listen and learn.
Gotta love a guy like Guthrie. He doesn't hide himself in a tons of sounds and pedals. Pretty much the basics and lets his playing speak for the rest of it. Truly a God in waiting !!
Great Master!!.Gracias!(Héctor Julio Sánchez Inda.Professional Bass Player From,Berazategui,Buenos Aires,Argentina).
What a truly interesting, articulate and modest guy. I saw him with Asia and he blew me away. Briefly talked to him at the end and he was just as convivial as he is here....phenomenal guitarist.
I'm greek and a huge Govan fan. this is great stuff
THAT IS SO AWESOME! YOU AND STEVEN WILSON!!!!!!!
What a great and humble guy !
Talking about his SG, I swear, he was about to get a bit teary.
Seems like a very nice guy and certainly a very skilled player. As a yank in SoCal I have always liked the GT mag and wish it had been available when I started.
Realy cool to know that guthrie is not realy endorsed by Charvel, and he has a lot of project for the next year ! New studio album for the aristocrats, and solo album project ! Sooo good !
Ps: You can pre-order the live CD/DVD of the aristocrats on amazon, it will be disponible the 10 december exactly .
IKR
It really also shows much confidence in ones ability.
Great interview Antistres1! You tactfully hit on Guthrie's 'paradox' that he loves to play 'live' to 'communicate' yet wants to edit fans' vids posted on UA-cam. The truth here? Guthrie, YOU are is The Man, go with the live stuff! We'll all forgive you if by chance a 'challenging note' surfaces. I'm only 1/2 Greek but was raised with most Greek tradition...love it all! Also thanks for letting us hear that Guthrie is playing with Steven Wilson's Porcupine Tree this year! Very very cool!
Che piacere averlo avuto a monteroduni al nostro festival, grande maestro e grande anche il nostro mitico EDDIELANG.
I love the tone on that mic. So rich and crisp. Charvel should make a GG signature mic!
9:09 just when you think he can’t do anymore he mimics a metronome perfectly 😄
Actually, I found your questions pretty smart and insightful. We got pretty insteresting answers from Guthrie.
great interview!!
"This amp has like 12 channels and I don´t understand any of them..."
lol, so Guthrie.
Yes. The head is a Marshall JVM 410H to be exact.
There were some great questions. Guthrie is an incredibly humble person. I guess that's why he's so damn good.
Guthrie is such an interesting character; I could listen to him talk all day.
I agree with you I just think that the presence and brilliance offered by Suhr correspond much more to his right hand attack.
it's a good interview you did a good job!
Search for "The Aristocrats - JazzFestival in Germany", it's a whole concert from October 2012!
This guy is simply amazing.
That guitar looks awesome!!.....kinda has a Reb Beach surh model vibe to it.....nice!!!!!
Thank you very much, kind sir!
Why are all of Guthrie's guitars so beautiful? I know he has an endorsement with Fender/Charvel now instead of Suhr. BUT ALL OF THEM ARE GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL
Was a great interview! Add a touch of compression around the pig introduction. Wow, that pig was loud. Haha.
When he said ''You could be living in a fishing village in the north of Norway'' I freaked out...I'm living in a fishing village in the north of Norway. I feel special now
Great interview.
I like how he just made that metronome sound on his guitar XD
Gotta love this guy!
What a great player, with a great attitude and sense of humor...and he sounds just like bloody Sean Connery! Close your eyes and listen!
YAY NEW ITERVIEW!
Pure awesome speech. AWESOME.
What a humble guy...awesome!!!
"[C] [U] [N]ext [T]uesday"... Brilliant!
look that simple pedalboard! and what a great sound he gets!
I watched Guthrie play at a small venue locally with Phil Xenedis (Greek)
Phil X and the Drills/Bon Jovi
Yiorgos Fakanas is the Greek bass fusionist mate..check him out ..he has some cool collaborations with big fusion names ....
Guthrie Govan: the most distinguished guitarist with a rock attitude...you just gotta love him :-)
Such a nice chap.
i met him once and had a smoke with him - i swear i wanted to haunt him - he was just as he is on these vids which is wonderful , cuddly and the greatest guitarist on the planet
FUCK I live in Nashville and didn't even know they tracked here.
apart from the bad habits which is a pretty cool question and will be added in my arsenal ,and the general interests that i am not really sure about, all the other stuff u mention are in the interview in some way...gear tour may be dull to you but is very interesting for most guitar players..and also seeing a guitar logo in the headstock doesnt mean tha u get all the specs of ones guitar by looking at it...so i must disagree with u i that!thanks for your input anyways..its been very helpfull...
I love the comment about "....Technical Monsters springing up."
Brilliant analysis of a disturbing trend.
Guthrie is really amazing in many ways!
22 minutes of recent GG footage yahhoooooooo!
Love anything with GG
damn i knew the charvel pro mod necks were good, but i never thought it would be good enough to get guthrie to swap out his Suhr neck!
Guthries such an intriguing guy. I t's hard to tell if he's being serious or just taking the piss at times. Such a dude.
Only a god of no measurable vast can be this humble.... =) You really want to listen when he talks... If I've had him as a teacher in school I maby had been better at grammar... =)
You did a great job :)
Wood might make a SLIGHT difference in ELECTRIC guitars, but nothing that can't easily be adjusted for by the amp's EQ or one of the tone pots of the guitar.
Sweet Child of mine on neck pickup showoff 13:39 and hes a slash fan You Rock Guthrie!
He is such a great guy#!
very nice great
16:44 I love that sound he made, he never sounded more hilarious than that ever
That Charvel is stunning.
Τελειο!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was speaking to you of course! ;o)
best PEOPLE are humble
he's a freaking gentleman. !!!! the gratest!!!
Super !!!
what's the name of the greek guitar player he is talking about in the begining of the video?
Man what a cool dude Guthrie is
It is!
best musicians are humble
what model of charvel is that? its beautiful.
Anyone know what amp he was playing through back there? Looks like maybe a JCM 2000 or 900 or something?
yeah i found that out, must be a recent endorsement!
"I've been making noises ever since"
Scias sums up my life well
great!
Jack Daniel's t-shirt. Now I love Guthrie even more
That envelope filter sounds SICK
well...thats the case with most interviews up in youtube...though i had a firts exclusive inside on his new guitar(in all propability)...that has to count for something...also if u check the comments below u will see that a lot of people still dont know how they came up with the name aristocrats...so thats news also....but i would love to have some suggestions for future interviews...what would u like to know that is not been answered in a previous interview???i would like your input on that...
that Charvel is gorgeous
...and we can see how funny it is for mr. Govan ...he is really cool !
"well you can probably guess; it's awesome". what a legend
what brand of guitar is Guthrie Govan holding in the begining?
well, since I AM the guy thats doing the interview,i have to inform u that the whole point of the interview was not me laughing at his jokes, but squizing some questions in as much time as the gave me,and watching his manager all the time making signs telling me time is over ,and me trying to get some unique informations.i would love to have all the time in the word to chat an laugh but sadly,i didnt!!! but still i got the exclusive inside on guthries new guitar.that should count for something
That voice... *.*
So many odd complaints for a worthwhile interview.
I can't imagine how hard it must be to interview Guthrie if English isn't your first language; he's so colloquial. Unless you're exceptionally bilingual, I don't think you have an appreciation for it...
this guy just never hits a bad note
i thought guthire recently started using Axe Fx? he was in one of their adverts recently...
look at his shoes ...this is the reason while he is grounded on every style ;-))
GG is playing a Charvel? Sweet. Very nice.
That SM57 is beast.
