Great Cars: MORGAN

  • The Morgan is a design that holds firmly to its ancestry - simple yet sporty, but no longer inexpensive. The Morgan got its start as the Morgan three-wheeler that was produced from the early 1900's to 1951. The Roadster is still handmade and only ten cars are built each week at the Morgan factory in Malvern Link, England. All Morgans are pre-sold and buyers are often put on a six-year waiting list. The Morgan seems antiquated to some and it is a stark contrast to today's typical high tech car. But the Morgan is more than just an "Automobile," it's an art form with its own spirit and soul.

    I'm impressed with the fact that this car company is still run by a member of the founder of the company
    Something else that impressed me is that a lot of the people who work there today have been working there for years

      Saw the Wheeler Dealers chassis change on a Plus 4. Interesting to say the least . Until recently they were using Oil from the engine to fill the Shock Absorbers. Never seen that before. The 3 wheeler how do they pass the safety laws.

    An excellent series, well narrated and well filmed. Most of all it does not pretend, that British cars were the "creme de la creme" of engineering or reliability! In my humble opinion, of all cars ever engineered and produced in Britain the Jaguar XK series 1,2, and 3 were (and still are) the most beautiful sports-cars ever made!
    BUT, British automobiles always and still have a certain "charm"... if only the engineering was German... ha ha. ;-)

    that Rover V-8 was a Buick, Oldsmobile deal, I believe it was a push rod 235, the Brits used two crappy S,U,s, the U,S version had a four barrel and a two barrel carb, the heads were famous for warping

    I noticed the RHD error as well. Why does the narrator rechristen Pickersleigh Road to Pickersleigh Lane half way through? The Aero 8 is pig ugly. I'm sure its good but the cross eyes and the high door line just don't do it

  • @samsonian
    @samsonian 6 років тому +2

    I found this episode pretty funny; my favorite was the owner, Charles driving around in ‘one of the vehicles destined for the US market’ but still sporting a steering wheel on the right. The other detail was something lost in translation or at least just never discussed about the Aero 8’s design...those abominable headlights that take a pretty nice-looking car and turning it into a cross-eyed wonder. Not sure how you do that or WHY that would be done! Oh well, to each their own...and Morgan owners being VERY MUCH their own!

    • @DMJ52
      @DMJ52 5 років тому +3

      Samsonian well the headlights were from the new VW Beetle except the left hand light was used on the right and the right headlight was used on the left. This was a decision made by Chris Lawrence the chief designer, God rest his soul. The reason to use the VW headlight was so that Chris could increase the nose length of the car so he could have the splitter below the radiator intake. Charles Morgan was reluctant to make the car bigger than a Plus 8 so Chris had to ‘justify’ a reason and the ‘long’ VW headlight was the reason. If you positioned the VW headlights with the right one one the right side of the car it just didn’t suit the shape of the nose at all.
