Fer sure. The cigarette ads alone were sometimes worth turning on the boob tube. And now, we get Matthew McConaughey riding around in a fancy schmancy SUV counting cup holders.
I had an '85 Mayfair while stationed in Germany in '96-7. It was the last of the lead fuel cars. Always had fun in and with it. One of my favourite stories to tell about it is the ticket I got on Autobahn Six doing 130 km. Never could get the car to do it again. And it would take a cloverleaf tight and fast.
I'll never forget the first time I encountered a Mini, I was in my hopped up 55 Chevy. It passed me on the interstate, and I was gonna show it my taillights. He spanked me like a red headed stepchild. He took an off ramp at a blistering speed, I followed, and he disappeared. I'm pretty sure it was a Cooper S. I was 18 years old at the time, I bet he's still laughing about it 50 years later.
An excellent video for a beautiful legend. It took me a lot of time to myself to notice how great is the new legend. It is just the right challenger as it was the mk 1 in its days. Thanks for bringing this fantastic car alive for many years to come.
Honestly, BMW only did it so much justice. Here in the States, all anybody wants is a stupid truck or crossover SUV. While I'm sitting here thinking about getting a classic Mini. Very bright. Haha
OK, I'll admit I have a pickup truck and an SUV. In my defense the SUV is an older model with good bones that I bought with cash I scraped off the top of my dresser, but it has three rows for my grandsons who have dubbed it the Battle Wagon. But, when Ford announced the demise of cars in the U.S., I bought a Focus ST. It's not a Mini, but I think it evokes the same spirit: a whole lotta fun in a small(ish) package. A LOT of fun. "No officer, I'm not in a hurry, I just like to drive fast."
I had one of the first 1959 MINIs (A Morris 850) imported into Canada. I drove it through many of the back roads of Ontario and attracted much attention (female), left much Detroit iron eating my dust on twisty roads, and generally had the time of my life. Even went camping with a 16' canoe on the roof. Wish I still had it but unfortunately winter and salted roads rusted it out beyond economical repair.
Back in my elementary/middle school years, we had a British Principal who drove a Mini. You may not think that unusual, but he was over 6 ft tall! It was comical to watch him get in that itty bitty car.
When I was 21 my brother and I modified a 89 Honda Civic by placing the drivers seat 6" back and adjucting a new shift lever for me to drive it . We tuned it up as well as we could and in my opinion th car came closest to matching the feel of that Mini I had been so impressed with
Great video. Thank you, KR Archives. I knew some or most of the technical and racing history of both generations of Mini, but I never realized the significant financial risk BMW took to bring the new version to production. It is rare to find legacy corporations with balls anymore. The American auto industry is now taking that same dirt road the British did - making only vehicles that seem to be selling now and not banking for the future. Ford comes to mind. Their decision to stop selling cars in the US (save for the Mustang which is arguably an enthusiast car and not a family prime mover) will blow up in their Dearborn faces. Kudos for KR for the great video, and kudos to BMW for coming up with something that no one knew would sell.
I worked for a race team that ran a couple MGB's at Sebring and Daytona (68,69,70) that had a mini-moke with a 1275 cc race engine at the track for a at the track gofor car that was a hoot to drive
The works Cooper S team would have won the Monte Carlo rally in 66 as well but we're cheated by the French on a technicality to do with the cars lighting.
Agreed. Apart from a vague similarity in shape, the BWM Mini is not a mini. Power-steering, A/C etc, don't belong in a Mini. A Mini is about driving, not the comforts.
@@VauxhallViva1975 so going by your logic, having any kind of comfort in the mini, makes it a bad thing....why do people like you even watch this documentary. you obviously dont like the mini, so why come here, ...just to post negative shit i guess?
@Tony B the US market has been doing that to cars sinxe the nineties . Engineered to necessitate dealership garage work was how they modeled their sales . They even went as far as to use fittings that could only be installed or removed with proprietary tools not available to the public . My 2003 Chevrolet disentegrated once week after the last payment , too . It limped into a Honda dealership for tradein value . I will never buy American again . Honda , Toyota or BMW only . To be honest those brands employ just as many Qmericans these days as American makes do .
ONE OF THE GREATEST CARS OF ALL TIME PERIOD!!! WHAT A GREAT DESIGNER WHO WAS BLESSED BY YOU KNOW WHO GOD!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!! HE HAS ONLY GOD TO THANK!!!!!! GOD IN HEAVEN ONLY!!!!!!! 😇 I ♥️ GOD!!!!!!!!! AND I LOVE YOU TOO!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS Y'ALL PRAISE GOD AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!! BYE!!!!! ✌️😇🙏
New "style" MAXI will not even come close to the success and level of variety in models than the ORIGINAL Mini!! God forbid when BMW would have a rip of cloning a Moke, Riley or Marcos? Sadly most people who drive that thing on steroids are proud of their cupholders, GPS and gadgets, like the snowflakes are who don't really know what is going on under the bonnet!!
The Morris Mini and Austin Seven are amazing and revolutionary. They were also well made and reliable. Unfortunately, the BMW version of the Mini is neither well made nor reliable. They are a case of maximum profit for minimum cost. I would rather buy an original than get a new one for free.
I owned 5 of the original minis and they were not that well made or reliable to be honest. Rust came through on many panels including the a panels and up inside of the front wings. They also leaked through door seals and cut out if the rain got past the distributor cover behind the grill. But they were fun and easy to tune if you knew what you were doing. I had a 998 mini that hardly any other car could catch around town but it did have a modded cylinder head rally cam bigger carb and exhaust along with modified suspension arms and wider wheels and brakes. Not bad for a few hundred quid on top of a £300 purchase price. The guy I sold it to ran it into a wall racing a Fiesta XR2.
My '07 Mini and it's engine were designed by the British and built by the British, in Britain. I don't know how much more British anyone could want. Thankfully the car isn't entirely inbred, and great minds worldwide helped in it's development.
Oh, Mensch..................! Was tue ich um der Menschlichen denken Bitteschön.......................? Wenn Sie sich gut auf der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Hamburg um Wasser Nutzungsbedingungen brauchen..................................?
I love Mini's. Always have. I did not get my first one until i was 49. I love it!
I just inherited a 2006 R50 Cooper in Pepper White with the Getrag 5 speed. I ADORE it. I am absolutely a Mini convert. Long live the Mini.✌🏻🇺🇸
TV commercials in the 60s and 70s were a lot more interesting than today's

The Mini, in my opinion, is my number one favourite classic car of all time!
my number one is classic beetle
For those who loves the classic mini, including me, it's always the number 1 car. The smallest car with a biggest heart.
It’s literally my fav car in the world
I loved this show. Sad it's not on TV anymore.
An excellent video for a beautiful legend. It took me a lot of time to myself to notice how great is the new legend. It is just the right challenger as it was the mk 1 in its days. Thanks for bringing this fantastic car alive for many years to come.
It's 2019, and the Mini craze is over.
Honestly, BMW only did it so much justice. Here in the States, all anybody wants is a stupid truck or crossover SUV.

I love my 2012 Cooper S. It is truly lovely and fun and it is indeed a head turning icon!
I really want another classic Mini now!
Back in my elementary/middle school years, we had a British Principal who drove a Mini. You may not think that unusual, but he was over 6 ft tall! It was comical to watch him get in that itty bitty car.
Everyone had a Mini ... but Mister Bean gave it a whole new image.
I had a 74 MINI ,,,,I am 6 '2 ",,,people used to laugh when I got out .....I drove that thing all over Holland
😂 glad you're proud of it, i have vw beetle
I am 6'6" it can't happen ...lol but luckily I was not this tall at eleven when I got to ride in one ...quite a peppy little car .
When I was 21 my brother and I modified a 89 Honda Civic by placing the drivers seat 6" back and adjucting a new shift lever for me to drive it . We tuned it up as well as we could and in my opinion th car came closest to matching the feel of that Mini I had been so impressed with
The old mini cooper 1275 was a hoot.
mini starts a new milestone
to make modern cars
If you ever have a chance to drive a Mini old or new all I can say is you'll have a blast and probably end up with a speeding ticket!
OffRoad I have a 2017 Mini One and it is an absolute fabulous car. Such a blast REALLY good fun to drive.
No other car has given me so much pleasure.

My wife has 2017 Cooper and I never use my car unless she’s working. I always take the Mini if it’s available. An absolute blast to drive.
I worked for a race team that ran a couple MGB's at Sebring and Daytona (68,69,70) that had a mini-moke with a 1275 cc race engine at the track for a at the track gofor car that was a hoot to drive
Old Minis are better than new Minis.
among all my M cars, (e30,e36, e46,e39,e63,)05 wrx sti, 240SX, V10 cars included ,my JCW GP 2 is the most fun car in my garage!!! ..just thrilling!
Old Mini. Good. New Mini. Hello Kitty!
Factually incorrect on one point though. Sir Alec designed the Morris Minor as maximum space in the smallest car. However, the mini was pure genius!
The works Cooper S team would have won the Monte Carlo rally in 66 as well but we're cheated by the French on a technicality to do with the cars lighting.
Oh, man.........................! Sind alles Menschen noch am Lebenden & warten auf mich..............!
The new Mini FAILS miserably too impress me!!
ONLY the classic Mini is a PROPER Mini these new ones too me are an insult to the original!
Agreed. Apart from a vague similarity in shape, the BWM Mini is not a mini. Power-steering, A/C etc, don't belong in a Mini. A Mini is about driving, not the comforts.
Agree totally!
My feelings for the new beetle are exactly the same!
Two years ago I had an classic Cooper as my "summer car" or "fun car".
@@VauxhallViva1975 so going by your logic, having any kind of comfort in the mini, makes it a bad thing....why do people like you even watch this documentary. you obviously dont like the mini, so why come here, ...just to post negative shit i guess?

It could hold HUGE amounts of luggage...........LOL 🙂
The suspension wasn't rubber cones, it was rubber doughnuts.
Maybe the Tardis shoyld have been a Mini .?
Why did they show a Morris Oxford when talking about the Minor? (The Oxford looked similar but was bigger of course)

07:21 - that volkswagen beetle sound insert did not fit well there. And again at 07:44.....
Nice little cars.
Superbe
sadly the current minis are far from "mini"
The new minis after sales are a desaster repairs are expensive and most people I know would never buy another!!!
Old boys having a whif, not. Man had a plan. Let us see if it sells.
My mini had ten inch wheels, and even with front wheel drive I could get rubber in third gear!
I brought mine new
because of this channel i want a MINI and a Beetle :3
Tell them we sent you:-)
I think you need to get your facts correct plus you didn't even cover the ERA MINIs
the mini was not designed to combat traffic congestion...it was designed to see of bubble cars ......
Commentator sounds like sean Connery
People tell Regg that all the time.
Sean Connerys my favorite actor. 😊😊😊
