Thanks for uploading this; this brings back memories as well as refreshing my memories on how our MRT system used to be run. I still remember those door chimes they used to use - that unfortunately got replaced with a overcomplicated announcement and buzzer, though sometimes they still use the chime, which I very much prefer.
And the school kids of those days weren't fixated on their 'smart' phones.They were actually conversating. My generation has really gone into reverse evolution.
The creator of this video is probably in his 50s or 60s now. He did at one point recall filming 1938 stock trains on London's Bakerloo Line as a schoolkid in the 1970s and 80s

When the train is approaching an interchange, "Passengers who are continuing their journey towards...........please crossover to platform...on the right/left." is announced in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.

@giggslimws Neither did I. The Branch Line consists of Jurong East, Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak and Choa Chu Kang. These 4 stations have been merged with the North South Line.

On the SBS lines(none of which existed at the time) some are in all 4 and others only English. The transfer info would be shortened as the branch line is now part of the NS.
their langauge isnt east as english is so common and one of the easiest languages. its not indian its tamil. each sq m of india has its own language. it feels much comfotable to me to have english annocunements because im not the boomers who like their language and think english is hard.

Nope.Between 1987 And 1994,Only Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151 Trains Were Operating.Siemens C651 Was Introduced In 1994 While Kawasaki Heavy Industries C751B Was Introduced In 2000.
And now we have 6 different train models serving these two lines. The uploader is a Londoner, so if he were to visit again 27 years on, he'd be stunned - fleet standardisation is a very big thing in London, where each of the 11 lines are served by only one train model (they may soon have 8 lines being served by only 2 train models)
Note how the students were acting back then compared to today's students. The announcement also sounded better,in my opinion. Why do I have to live my teenage years through such a(pardon me)shitty era(the late 2010s),I would've been living the life if I was born in the mid-late 80s

Yes C651 has the same livery as the train that u saw which is the unrefurbished C151 but both are gonna retire by 2022

Now the announcements are only in English. Having announcements at all must have been so cool back then. Now it’s so mainstream we expect it.
making announcements in four languages was possibly seen as 'too much', because to fit them all in they have to start a long way from the station.

They used numbers back then. Before the signage change in 2001. (Eg. Platform A used to be Platform 1, platform b used to platform 2 etc..)
