If what you desire from rapid progress is just cosmetic updates of the station, then I would have to disagree with you. Train stations are built to last for centuries. Just look at the subway stations in London, Sydney, Paris and other global cities, they still look like the way they did 100 years ago. Subways aren't shopping malls. As long as they perfectly serve their function there's no need to waste resources on updating them. In fact you should be proud of these built-to-last MRT stations.
I was 17 back then... as I was living in Woodlands, we had no access to the MRT and relied heavily on Trans Island buses lol ... thanks for the upload. Cool vid.
During those days, the MRT was not too much crowded, unlike nowadays,it is really packed to the max, like sardines.Notice that the stations at that time was much roomy, and much more convenient to walk.
For 1987-1990s standards, this beats out the MTA in NYC by a long shot since NYC was still using R10s from the 1930s, along with aging infrastructure, this is completely, futuristic and ahead of time.
Feels wierd not hearing the annoucements playing when a train leaves the station and alsp hearing manual annoucements without the please mind the platform gap
I graduated from SAS in 94. I miss living there. I'm going to have to listen to the rest of you dnb mix later. The beginning sounded sweet. I miss Zouk.
Thank you very very much for uploading this video! I would truly miss the top-up card buttons that resemble like a chocolate bar to me :D Thanks again!
OMG that was so cool back in the days! Not so crowded & even people communicated one another with eye contact. This days generation with technology, most of the time my friends keep staring at their smartphone while talking. How annoying is that ahaha! -_-
most of it they had change from ticketing booths to the sign board where more words were added to add more info for the tourists whom uses the mrt for the 1st time
Now the trains in the similar white livery are the siemens C651, Sinvapore's mrt has really evolved, do you plan to film any of the C151 in the present?
@Equarius260eoy someone I know has just been to Singapore and he told me that (he was told) this rule was introduced after a bomb attack was thwarted - the bomb was made safe. Of course people with ill-intent cannot be stopped from filming... they will just use covert methods, such as shirt button cameras. Technology is almost at a stage whereby prosthetic / false eyes can also include cameras. So, as ever its only the ordinary people who suffer.
Transportation ONLY! Actually he is right. Only doors are closing announcements were introduced in 1994, while the rest of the announcements were introduced 3 years later
@ddarrens92 I do not remember the exact times, as it is now 20 years since I was in Singapore. I avoided the rush hours. Possibly I filmed at underground stations during the hours of darkness, as it did not make much difference when underground! I might have filmed this when on my way back to the hotel after visiting Sentosa. Which means after 10pm. It was my aim to film trains and not (too many) people, as then the trains are not seen! Simon
Next station, Dhoby Ghaut interchange... passengers who are continuing their journey on the Circle Line or North East Line, please alight at the next station...
They had not yet been invented and we had no idea that such devices could even exist - I used to telephone the office where I worked from a public payphone that allowed me to pay using a credit card
Yes I know. But mobile phones were shortly invented, around 1995-1996 if I remembered correctly. The dumb phones, that is. Can't access internet. I had a Nokia that cost $1600.
@nickelbatx Yes but the whole thing is orchestrated; people in power are afraid of ordinary people, especially those with cameras, as it empowers those who speak up for human rights and freedoms. Using the excuse of terrorism the USA has just passed a law which allows people (anyone) to be detained without trial indefinately. (NDAA, Dec 2011). The power mongers are desperate to introduce martial law - see the last 40 mins of the Project Camelot interview with Bob Wood to know why.
You are awoke friend, these terrorism fear mongering is a way for them to strip off your human rights, coupled with todays manmade scamdemic fear. They gonna sell you vaccines that will cause autism.nwo will fail like they always do, karma bites narcissists harder when they think they are invincible.
Sorry but I do not know - this was filmed in 1991, I suspect that Singapore only had one type of MRT train at the time, with them all being in original / unrefurbished condition.
Number of lines is not important. The fact that Singapore MRT covers the whole island is a sufficient proof of its efficiency. There's virtually nowhere in Singapore unreachable by MRT, especially when the new lines start to open next year. And oh, speaking of cosmetic updates, do you have any idea how filthy the subway in New York and London tube compared to sterile, air-conditioned MRT?
hi I am from the future I SWEAR NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN SINGAPORE'S FIRST UNDERGROUND STATIONS ON EWNSL, THERE ARE STILL IN PRISTINE CONDIITION LIKE NEW

Its weird as the advertising boards in the tunnel are now no longer in use. I seem to recall they were last used between 2007-2008
MrCelroy I wish could have the advertising boards in the tunnels back!
Unlike in China.
In the jakarta mrt, advertisements are everywhere from the station to the interior of the train and the exterior of the train
They were still using it up to the early 2010s although there weren't many of them in use Today those boards are gone.
Mostly because of the iPhone and future technology
Feels wierd not hearing the annoucements playing when a train leaves the station and alsp hearing manual annoucements without the please mind the platform gap
too many announcements nowadays... passengers mentally switch off and then they miss information which they actually need to to know!
*DING DONG*
Notice the crowds. "What crowds", you say? Right! There wasn't any! Hardly any FTs!
Alex Ang As with London, even big cities seemed less crowded in those days!
citytransportinfo Guess more people are flocking to the big cities these days. And the global population has increased
Mass immigration profits those people without borders and dual citizens.
Ever since the mrt look like that before I was born

THIS IS SO NOSTALGIC!
2:54-3:03 is it just me or the mrt train doors close at a faster duration in the past compared to now?
i mean yes they used to close incredibly fast for some reason lol
Who would you watch this in 2019?
5:48 The old C151 door chime (1987-1996) in action
most of it they had change from ticketing booths to the sign board where more words were added to add more info for the tourists whom uses the mrt for the 1st time
No announcement. Recorded announcement only started in 1994.
Nice old train station!I've seen this in 2005!
Oh my god, this is so old, not like now, 2022!!
@sgdkdl Yes! There is at least one more film to come - in a few weeks.
Now the trains in the similar white livery are the siemens C651, Sinvapore's mrt has really evolved, do you plan to film any of the C151 in the present?
I would film them if I was in Singapore, but right now I am in London.
The C151s are starting to be decommissioned. The first has already been decommissioned recently.
@@SGTrainsVideography wait when was it? I thought it wouldn't have started until 2021 or so?

Epic....look at how simple the Mrt map was back then?...
@TecomaStan
What flash?
Do you mean that nowadays the lights flash (blink on and off) just before the doors close?
Simon
I was born one month after this!
21 years later, and the only difference is people having iPhones. Singapore is making a very slow progress.
landlordfromhell well I mean yea hope you can rethink this 6 years down the line
+Timothythamen the trains only had annoucements in 1997. The train officers had to annouce back then...

Can you do more of MRT Singapore videos ex. Circle Line contrasts & North South Line contrasts 1987-2017
