I honestly never thought of him as the kind of person to have kids. It really doesn’t surprise me at all. If he did have kids, that would shock me more
Can I just mention how incredible Reg looks! A genuine heart and soul has helped him stay young looking! Thanks for the memories and being the greatest TV Dad of all time!
Gotta remember Jaleel was also a teenager. What teenager isn’t difficult. Esp when you become the major star of a show. Like how he answered that question. We should give grace in todays society.
K and he still difficult. Now what? Stop saying he was a teenager, of course he was. You know how many teens are in the biz and 100% professional, and easy to work with. Hush Fly over state!
I remember when Jaleel was on Dancing with the Stars and some of the male dancers stepped in to protect his partner from his anger. He definitely has some issues. I used to love Family Matters and watched the reruns all the time. After seeing Jaleel on DWTS, it made it hard to watch Family Matters again. I kept seeing the adult Jaleel going after Kym.
My parents had us all get together every Friday and "Family matters" was the the show that my siblings and I all looked forward to as a family. The whole TGIF programming, but that show as the highlight. I remember in 3rd grade (born in 1982) one kid brought in a "Family Matters" book and people were kissing his behind to be able to check it out also. I am really grateful to have such awesome memories, not just of the time with my family, but also of the show itself. That was good entertainment and Reginald is an icon. And he has aged really well. I am so glad to see him looking so well too.
What a kind person he is! He was the iconic dad role of the 90’s! My daughters of this generation loved watching that show and connected to the characters. What great television from that time! Clean, wholesome and great scripts!
Having a side-character become not only the star of the show - but also of pop culture at the time - had to be 'difficult'. It was insane how popular Urkel was. Dolls, toys, image on everything possible. And you could rarely go a day without hearing someone use the 'did I do that' line.
The racist cop episode was so emotional. It was the first time as a kid learning of such problems. It opened my eyes at that moment that black families have a different experience. Love this show so much.
Say it louder for everyone to hear....this generation is in DESPERATE need of wholesome, family values...all they know is the Kardashians and sleeping with as many people as you can. Their moral compass just spins at this point. It's sad to see
As a kid I was lured into watching the show by Steve Urkel’s antics; looking back, it also had a great deal of wisdom and valuable social commentary. Truly ahead of its time.
I used to think the show was literally called “Urkel”. I can see why the adult cast members would be frustrated that a child basically highjacked their show, but you have to give the viewers what they want. And when the viewers are happy, everyone is making money and the show can go on.
I remember when Steve Urkel was introduced to the cast when I was about 12 that he instantly became a favorite to people in my middle school, including me, and we couldn't get enough of him. I thought he was the most hilarious character ever.
Despite never having met the man, he was so instrumental to my early teen years I can't even begin to express in words. I remember seeing him on quite a few other shows/movies (Ghostbusters, Turner & Hooch, I think I even remember seeing him in McGyver in a quick clip) but to me, He'll always be Carl Winslow. I've been watching the show through on Hulu again recently and I just can't imagine what my life might have been without it. Despite not having any kids of his own, I hope Reginald know what a positive influence he was on so many people in my age bracket. Even as a white kid who couldn't relate to EVERYTHING, he was a great supplemental role model to my own father. This guy is one of the real ones. And I hope he feels appreciated.
Family Matters was my FAVORITE show ever as a kid that and sister sister... I wanted to be adopted by the Winslow's so badly! Honestly Reginald looks amazing, he hasn't changed a bit!! 🥰

My husband and I started rewatching Family Matters recently and I can’t wait for our daughter to be old enough to watch it. Such a great show, I miss the shows that had good family values and great life lessons. Even though I am white I felt like I was part of their family growing up and didn’t care about the color of my skin. Was great to relate to people who were from a different background.
All of those 90s shows were very inclusive and the characters were lovable.. now a days they just put trash in people's faces and they call it inclusion
You're darn right to feel that way, that's definitely how it should be. I love it when everyone is included weather the family is white, black or etc.I had white friends growing up and had fun with them at their housees and it was always awesome to be included, so I guess we feel the same on that. That's the true embodiment of our country, not all that separation crap. Lol
It’s interesting to hear this. I worked 7 years as a Stuntwoman on this great show. Ive got so many pictures with this cast. I definitely was clueless to all the real drama. Jaleel was one of the nicest actors Ive worked with
I grew up without a dad because he died off cancer when i was 7. I´m gratefull that this guy was there on tv how a good dad is and hw to treat youre children thank you !!!
Crocodile Dundee as the chauffeur Gus, a jail guard in Ghostbusters, Sgt. Al Powell in Die Hard and Carl Winslow in Family Matters. The man had some amazing roles that he made his own, brought a lot of warmth and humanity to them all.
Reginald was such a HUGE part of what made Diehard such a classic. He was the "voice of encouragement", kind of an on-camera audience member, cheering on Bruce Willis as he goes up against the odds. Aside from a memorable, but brief cameo in the second film, his character was a missing ingredient in the later films.
I just did a rewatch binge of Family Matters and was struck by insanely good it is and how well it's held up - a show ahead of its time in many ways. Carl Winslow-Steve Urkel is far and away my favorite comedy duo from any sitcom!
He has aged so gracefully and seems like such a kind soul. Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Living Single & Moesha were some of my favorite shows to watch as a kid.
No doubt, but i'm not surprised there was tension between Jaleel and the others. A newbie shows up and steals the show and the originals are gonna have some hard feelings.
I never would have guessed that he never had children of his own, because he played the Dad role perfectly....and they have tried many times as well, to have cast members throw Jaleel under the bus, and he didn't bite one bit....He is truly an example of Pure CLASS
The 70's, 80's and 90's had the best tv sitcoms, movies and music. I miss my childhood. It's hard to hear anything negative about any of the artist back then. They made us laugh, cry, and fall in love. What a great time it was!!
What's even more crazy is, he played the role of a cop on the show CHUCK, for one episode... And he had not only put on massive weight, but was looking really haggard. So seeing him here, years after that, looking so much better is just crazy.
He is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DAD in T.V. history. One of my favorite Family Matters episodes (and moments) was with the Dragons Gang when they were about to tear up Aunt "Rachel's Place" and Officer Carl Winslow happened to casually walk through the door and yelled "HOLD IT!" The crowd went absolutely wild, and I just smiled hard. Damn, getting teary eyed just thinking about it. 🙂 Anyway, even though he said it may have been a little "difficult" at times with Jaleel White, he did say that he had good thoughts and memories of him. Its really nice when you can leave on good terms with a person.
I love how the interviewer says "Never would have known", as if to say, "Never would have known you weren't already a Dad. You are such an amazing TV Dad.", and his response, "Never would have known" was as if to say, "I never would have known what it was like to be a Dad without this show." Such an amazing human being.
I absolutely adored him in Family Matters, that was my show back in the day, my goodness, nothing compares! It would still be so relevant and I’d watch it every day today if it still played on regular tv after work :) hint hint, and I loved him in Die Hard!!!! That’s SO cool that Bruce chose him!!!! Good on him 👏🏻 that was a perfect match.

You would have never know he didn’t have kids of his own . He played the dad role so well👏🏾👏🏾

Gotta remember Jaleel was also a teenager. What teenager isn’t difficult. Esp when you become the major star of a show. Like how he answered that question. We should give grace in todays society.
But I heard jaleel,is , still a difficult person to work with,he was once arrested for domestic violence!
He’s a menace always has been.

He seems like such a genuinely good guy. Nice to see him still around, happy and healthy!
What a kind person he is! He was the iconic dad role of the 90’s! My daughters of this generation loved watching that show and connected to the characters. What great television from that time! Clean, wholesome and great scripts!
Such a great TV dad!

I can't help but get ticked off with Bill Cosby every time I hear that......but that's life.....
God bless Reginald VelJohnson.
For me, he was THE BEST! 🙂
One of the best TV dad's of the 90s next to Phillip Banks
Having a side-character become not only the star of the show - but also of pop culture at the time - had to be 'difficult'. It was insane how popular Urkel was. Dolls, toys, image on everything possible. And you could rarely go a day without hearing someone use the 'did I do that' line.
Remember the Urkel-O's cereal?? 😂

There needs to be more shows like this for this generation. Shows with morals that teach basic decency.
Say it louder for everyone to hear....this generation is in DESPERATE need of wholesome, family values...all they know is the Kardashians and sleeping with as many people as you can. Their moral compass just spins at this point. It's sad to see
The left is engaged and desperate to destroy the family unit and destroy the identity of young people too which is demonic, satanic in my opinion.
@Thorne InyoassEvery show doesn't have to be for every person.

@@VivoZzz y’all act like people still don’t watch 90s tv shows it’s a classic😂
As a kid I was lured into watching the show by Steve Urkel’s antics; looking back, it also had a great deal of wisdom and valuable social commentary. Truly ahead of its time.
You said it right, Brother!! :D
It was good. Hardly anything special though.
@@MoneyManHolmes fr fr because the pilot showed what the show was pose to b he came in the basically changed the show and geared it towards urkel
Wow, he still looks good. 👍

My husband and I started rewatching Family Matters recently and I can’t wait for our daughter to be old enough to watch it. Such a great show, I miss the shows that had good family values and great life lessons. I really miss those days when i was so young that race didnt mean anything.

No doubt, but i'm not surprised there was tension between Jaleel and the others. A newbie shows up and steals the show and the originals are gonna have some hard feelings.

He is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DAD in T.V. history.
