Xpansions founding member Richie Malone looks back at their 1990, top 10 hit “Move Your Body” in light of the release of the Move Your Body (Elevation) Remix EP, out now via Positiva / Food Music: Xpansions.lnk.to/MYBElevationID.
    Featuring remixes from:
    Shadow Child
    Krystal Klear
    Rebuke
    Nick Reach Up
    Loods
Seminal UK rave duo Xpansions have launched a five-track remix package to commemorate their 1991 classic ‘Move Your Body’, out 14th June on Positiva / Food Music.
Ahead of its release, the extensive remix package of the seminal hit has become firm favourites from BBC Radio 1 tastemakers across the board, seeing support from Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Danny Howard, MistaJam and Monki.
Perhaps the most recognisable track from the early years of British rave, ‘Move Your Body’ has been given the remix treatment by five contemporary electronic artists. First up, Shadow Child builds the tension with an extended intro that precedes a deep, grooving bassline. Cold Tonic label head Krystal Klear then steps up with a sun-kissed Balearic take on the original, while fellow Irishman Rebuke brings the iconic “dance when the record spins” vocal sample centre stage on his high-energy rework. Disco edit specialist Nick Reach Up ramps up the feel-good funk on his version, before Australian lo-fi head Loods closes off proceedings with a breaks-heavy take.
The Rebuke remix created the initial buzz for the remix package when first serviced earlier this year, which was taken from Shadow Child’s ‘Curated By’ series - a selection of classic tracks, remastered and reworked on his own Food Music label. Following the impact of the first remix, Food Music have now teamed up with Positiva for the full release of all five anticipated reworks.
“I never thought that 30 years on we’d be talking about remixes, a whole new lease of life and a new audience,” concedes Xpansions’ Richie Malone. “A friend of mine sent me a link to a video filmed back in 1990 from a club in Liverpool called the Quadrant Park and it showed a crowd reaction to the track. Of all the videos I’ve seen, this one blew me away. I still watch it today and it still makes the hairs on my neck stand up.”
Initially released as ‘Elevation (Move Your Body)’, the track reached #7 in the UK Top 40 in February 1991, #13 when reissued in 1995, and the Top 75 again in 2002. It has also featured on approximately 100 compilation albums, with combined sales of nearly 10 million units.
At the hands of five talented electronic artists, one of dance music’s most iconic tracks has been given a new lease of life - without losing any of the magic of the original.

Stakker Humanoid (1988) paved the way for these 90's dance tunes. That was the breakthrough moment where many people were hearing music like this for the very first time.

As a kid at 10 years old in '91 I still remember how good this track sounded on LA radio. Still one of my favorites of that era and forever in my head. 💘

Awesome... We were rocking this tune in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1991. When this song is played in the Smart Bar, we would go crazy in the dance floor.

Funny thing is I've been jamming out to this for years and all my friends ask when did this come out? Here we are nearly 30 years later and people can't get enough of this music from the best era of dance.

It's a great track and really sums up the energy of those 2 years. But I always thought the keyboard riff was speeded up version of DTrain 'Your the one for me'???

In 1991, I moved from a tiny town in Pennsylvania to Los Angeles and started hitting real nightclubs vs little bars. One of my first clubs was on Santa Monica Blvd named Arena. That is when I was introduced to one of my all time favorite songs, Move Your Body. If I had a list of songs that would make up the soundtrack of my life, this is DEFINITELY on it. From that long ago to today, I'm still loving this song and dancing my butt off. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to the guys that brought us this masterpiece. Hats off to you! It isn't often these days that I feel happy (major losses recently) but this song gives me that joy. So thank you!

    What a classic track!
He said that Lizzy D sang the vocal. Does he mean just to hear how it sounded with the vocal because as far as I’m aware Sally Anne Marsh did the vocal on the record. She had previously been in a short lived band called Faith Hope & Charity with Dani Behr.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it, the original is the best no matter who actually sang in the song.

Wow, great piece. Bought this record at the time thanks to Stu Allan hammering it. And as for that Quad footage - electrifying. I was just too young to be going there. I didn't realise it had been made by a southern lad until today. Cheers Richie.

& in 2020 it all went down the covid path , absolutely unbelievable , as unbelievable as " I 1st heard " Elevation " 1990 /91 " I had to go & Buy the Record " just so so so good everything you need in a dance tune , great Beat break very popular if I remember ,but in this Xpansions Choon ,it was well done , sounded Great in a dirty club somewhere & everywhere & the catchy vocal " Move your Body higher " 🎹🎶😁👍❤️
