My new top 5 versions of this song: 1. Dolly Parton 2. Whitney Houston 3. Jessie J 4. Linda Ronstadt 5. Steve Knill Friggin beautiful man, just beautiful!
@@GQkid13 I've seen her and she's amazing for her age (or any age for that matter). She's got a constant vibrato which is a little distracting for me and she's essentially singing Whitney's arrangement BUT she's like 10 years old and is still learning and getting to know her voice I'm sure. Being 10 years old, she doesn't have the life experience or a broken heart from lost love to sing this song and truly convey what it means to someone who has. The list of singers I added Steve to are LEGENDS. As a vocalist, I wanted to make it clear to him how moved I was by his voice and arrangement, knowing he would understand when I added his name to that particular list. For ME, this song isn't about hitting the notes perfectly or how many runs you can add to it. It's about conveying what the lyrics mean and using that heartache along with the intricate simplicity of the melody and chord progression to create a story that can move you to a place in time and move you to tears or joy or whatever it means to you. Steve's version did that for me. The only male vocalist who ever has if I'm being honest. I wish I could weave a blanket of sound so masterfully and beautiful.
@@GQkid13 sorry, I guess I felt comfortable sharing all that with you in these comments since my partner doesn't "get it" lol! I feel much better now, thank you! 😄
I've NEVER heard a male singer cover this song as beautiful, elegant, & poignant as you did, Steve. I hope you are just as amazed & humbled by your talent as those who have found you. A stellar rendition!
My gosh, Dolly was right. This is GORGEOUS! I am keepin' an eye on you, Dude, and am a new subscriber! Please don't ever stop sharing that beautiful voice. it's like listening to angels.
DuuuuUUUUuuude...Here from Glamour as well and hearing Dolly harmonizing to you 👏🏼brought 👏🏼me 👏🏼to 👏🏼 TEARS. She’s a humble legend...Amazing voice, bud. Good luck out there and keep bringing it!
Guess how I found you???? I have been practicing my Uku to record some of my favorite songs. You AND the Lovely, Iconic Dolly have encouraged me to try this one!! I will always remember the first time I heard this... It was when Mona sang this to Ed Earl... (I was about 7 at the time. And I was watching this movie with my dad.. LOL! He did cover my eyes are certain parts.) It has been permanently a part of my heart.
Spectacular. Thank you. Found you through Dolly’s reaction. Only took the few notes on Dolly’s reaction vid to feel impacted by your rendition, I immediately came to see / hear your whole performance. Again, thank you.
Sung from your heart down deep with a VOICE that is like no other. You’ve got a gift. Thank you for sharing with your fans. You take songs to the next level. Incredible Steve!
I'm crying as I watch this. I broke up with my gf 10 months ago and I think about her everyday. I miss her so much. 😥 I just wish I could show her one more time I'm the man she fell in love with.
I love this song. I loved it when Dolly sang it, I loved it when Whitney sang it. I love when people do covers to it, it's such an emotional song, and it expresses heartache and loss so beautifully. But I will admit, this is the first time that it has moved me to tears. Thank you.
I had to find this video after seeing that Dolly had commented on it. I wanted to see the entire thing...I sat here in tears as I listened to it. This is the song I left in the CD player as I made the hard decision needed to be made between love and survival leaving my husband. The way you sang this so beautifully and heartbreaking is exactly how I felt as I walked out that door for the last time. Your voice is a gift to the world. And I thank you for the "bitter-sweet memories"...
The first “and I” when the guitar starts, gives me goosebumps and makes me cry each and every time; the emotion carried in those 2 short words and your restraint just ruins me. There’s singing and then there’s storytelling and if Dolly herself is reacting to your video I’d say that’s a good indication this is a master class in storytelling through vocal complexity
You brought me to tears with this. I am a Dolly Parton purist and I usually avoid covers of her songs because no one sings them as well as Dolly, but honestly man, this is hands down the most beautiful Dolly cover I’ve ever heard. Thank you for sharing this.
Saw you on Dolly's reaction. I'm so happy I stumbled upon that. You are really good and I think yours is right up there with Whitney. No one can beat her version, but man you are a very close second. 🤗
Man, just 3 sec into hearing your voice and am In love with your sound. Amazing control. U killed it. Probably my second best covers of the song. Incredible. 👍👍♥️♥️♥️
That’s the version I never knew I needed. It spoke so different and BEAUTIFUL. I just realized this is my song to my amazing ,ex- husband. Whom I love deeply as the father of my girls. He is a wonderful man and most importantly he is a loving DAD!
Awesome cover, loved it.. always critical about covers of this song cause dolly and Whitney do it so well and one of my fav songs ❤❤ but haven't heard a guy sing it so well... sold! ❤ amazing
so i watched Dolly's reaction at my desk at work and after she watched it i looked at my coworker with tears streaming down my eyes....not many voices to that to me....this is so beautiful
