I go along with the others that if the flour looks good and no smell I would use it up. The bread and potato lasagna look delicious. Great video. Thank you! 😊

Everything looks so delicious! That is great that you can cook on the woodstove when needed, many, many yrs. ago when our power was out I heated a cup of water over a large jar candle and made a cup of instant coffee, you do what ya gotta do 🤣I am SO over winter, all of January has been bitter cold and snowy here, I just want SPRING! Thanks for sharing another great video!

Thanks Carmen 💜 I can’t believe a candle heated the water!!! I go bananas if I can’t have my morning coffee 😂
January has been very cold here. We bought an extra cord of wood this year and we will definitely use it. I feel like I’m in prison…I mark off the days on the calendar until I’m “free” to play outside 🤣

Thanks Lyn 💜 No 😂 my sister gave the lasagna recipe years ago but he absolutely loves it! He prefers it over traditional one. It was kind of fun cooking on the wood stove…I wouldn’t want to do it everyday though 😉

I think this is one of my favorite videos... the "what did I get potatoes for" made me laugh so hard because I've had days like that too! I didn't know that you could freeze mashed potatoes. I'm going to have to try that. I'm also going to try the potato lasagna. Your chicken stew looks amazing. I'd most likely add celery to the stew because I am a celery eating fool.
Thank you so much for another great video and hats off to you for hunkering down and for not letting a power outage stop you from doing your thing.

Thanks Anna 💜 I love celery too and would have added but I didn’t have any 😕 It was kind of fun to do it for one meal but it would get old real fast 😂 (if the stove was upstairs it would be much easier…because I FORGET things! 🤣)

Morning Friend! Another wonderful video! I have made your potato lasagna before and we really enjoyed it. I'm sure yours was so much better with your home canned goods. Freezing mashed potatoes is a great idea. I'm going to start doing that. What a great short cut! I hope your power was not off for very long. I bet your chicken stew was wonderful, it looked amazing. You certainly rose to the challenge in more ways than one. You are very resourceful ! I hope you both have a wonderful day! 💙💙💙

Thanks Carolyn 💜 The frozen mash potatoes come in very handy! I’d probably do it even if the potatoes didn’t need to be used up 😉 The power came back around 10 pm and that was long enough!!
We both loved the stew, it will definitely be in the menu rotation from now on!

Great minds! Frozen mash is one of my staple freezer convenience items. I mostly scoop the mash onto a tray and flash freeze, then transfer to ziplock bags. Makes for super quick dinners if we cook protein in the Insta pot or slow cooker. I can also cook oven meatballs for the kiddos very quickly, and serve with “fresh” mash.

Hello, potato lasagna looks fantastic! I would check out the flour, if it doesn't smell bad then i would stick it in the freezer again for a few days. I tried a new recipe a few weeks ago and will never make it again. It wasn't even something i could make bread pudding or french toast out of. Boy that wood stove gets hot! Made me jump when you put the onions in! I hope you weren't without power for too long! Thank you for sharing another video of wonderful recipes! Did the, were they ducks or geese, ever go inside? Have a lovely day!

Thanks Angela 💜 It’s so disappointing when a recipe doesn’t turn out 😔 I have found that most of my “flops” are from recipes I’ve gotten online. I was melting by the woodstove 🥵 but it made us a yummy supper! Our power came back around 10 pm that night. It was the geese outside and they didn’t go back on their own, Frank had to bring them in…hence the expression silly goose 😂

Great job, the potato lasagna looks yummy, definitely going to make the baguettes. I have a chicken in the oven as I watch your video. I freeze mashed potatoes all the time, portioned out in amounts for my potato bun recipe. Thank you for a great video. P.S. I would use the flour as well, as long as it smelled good.

  • @nancyculp6968

The flour can still get buggy. You will have to sift through it, because time and heat can hatch out larva. I always, always keep my rice, flour and grains along with nuts in my freezer! My family’s business is a chemical company, that my father started. He was around all of these products and fumigated them for insects. Even old peanuts can hatch out moths! I was sold some at a curb market in a five pound bag( to make boiled peanuts) the heat caused the moths to hatch out. I buy in bulk too, but store it in containers in the freezer, so when I need some flour just have to bring in what will be used up in a decent amount of time. Plus, always wash out the containers after you finish with one, before adding more flour to it. Never have had a problem this way.

My grandmother always told me flower is good until it has a rancid smell or a musty smell and or it has a discoloration as in a little yellow or tannish color when you're using all-purpose white flour. I'm 69 years old now and I've never had any trouble following my grandmother's advice.
