I never met a potato that I didn't love😊 I canned 19 jars of potatoes a few weeks ago. Great to have on the shelf. I prefer my potatoes canned in water. The first time I did them, I dry canned them and I didn't like them. You are having a very busy day. Blessings 😊
Jessica from Three Rivers Homestead puts the potatoes in the jar then pours water over before canning. I tried it and love them. But I like your idea of rinsing them a few times before putting them in the jar. Thanks for the advice.
The hurricane coverage is VERY hard to watch, I just sit and cry, so much devastation 🥲 Great bargain on the potatoes, and still WAY healthier than the frozen store bought fries, they look so yummy!
Thanks Carmen 💜 I guess they are healthier than store bought. The average price for a little bag of store brand frozen fries in Quebec is about $4-5!! Potatoes use to be the cheapest thing you could eat……
You know every time I watch one of your videos, I learn something new. Frank must be in french-fry-heaven, lol. The hair comment made me laugh! Excellent video as always. I do appreciate all the work you put into making these videos for us to watch and learn from, so thank you for that.
Thank you Anna 💜 and my apologies for replying so late. He actually told me last night he will never ever buy another frozen French fry from the store. He loves them and they cook up much faster than store bought! I sincerely appreciate you’re support and kindness 😍
Thank you for showing what didn’t work well in canning. It’s so helpful. You do such an amazing job preserving the bounty and have given me so many ideas. The ninja foodie has been so versatile!
Thank you so much Kathy 💜 I sincerely appreciate your support and feedback. I haven’t even used all the features on the ninja yet..I have no idea what sous vide is 🤣 Last night I made a fall off the bone pot roast in the instapot 😋😋
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead Yw, it’s definitely a great feeling! I’ve been days canning, and I should have a Video Up soon of my pantry. Have a great day! 😊
You are amazing!! My husband and I are finally in our forever little paradise… We found each other after death took us from our first loves… I farmed for 40 years and he was an electrician… I sold the farm and we moved to a place that drew me in like the love of the holler, did at my Mamaw’s… You have inspired me! It’s ok to start your dream later in life! I’m 69 now, but if I die tomorrow, I die a happy soul! Thank you for your spunk and smile… Did you get your wood down in the cellar? That video showed your husband’s diligent work ethics! What a joy you both are to your viewers! Hugs from Ohio!
Hi Cindy! I’m so happy for you and your husband 🥰 It’s never too late and the other day I literally said to Frank if I die anytime soon at least I got to live my dream… It’s all a labour of love to me. I wouldn’t change a thing. Yes, all our wood is stacked and ready for our first fire which won’t be too long now (it’s getting quite cool lately) Wishing you all the best and enjoy the journey! Thank you 💜
What a great deal you got! I am out west now, rare to get deals on food here, I miss that about living east :) . Thanks for sharing your processes, super interesting. Have a wonderful week.
“What a deal “ Frank has to be walking around humming! Your hair always looks beautiful maybe that piece got a little potato starch. Thank you now I have to go eat something potato 👧🏻
Frank is in heaven 😂 I think it was all the grease in my hair 🤣 I’ve been waiting for you to comment so I could ask how your husband is doing? I’ve been praying he’s recovering well 🙏 Thanks Lyn 💜
Yellow skinned potatoes (kennebec) and red skinned are both waxy potatoes ... I agree...they are great for canning! This is the first year I was able to grow enough for the year and have canned them all...such a great food to have on the pantry shelf! I so enjoy your videos... very simple and down to earth 😊❤️
Thanks Christine 💜 That’s amazing you grew enough for the year!! I totally agree, it’s such a good feeling when we have good food on the pantry shelf 😀
hello well done I did the same thing but I canned all mine I had 6 bags whew was glad to be done cant beat the price and come winter and other times forgetful to have them
Good morning! Great video! I nearly fainted when I heard you say the price of those potatoes! WOW! What an amazing deal! I know it was a lot of work, but so worth it. I have never canned potatoes, but might get brave one of these days. You are a wealth of information and inspiration. It's finally cooling down a bit here and we are so happy about that. I hope you & Frank have a wonderful week! 💙💙💙
Thank you Carolyn 💜 I knew you would like the deal I got 😉 Have you ever dehydrated potatoes? I was thinking of doing some from my homegrown ones as an experiment but I’ve never done it before. We are having very cool temps (almost wood burning stove time) and I’m ok with that! Blessings friend 🙏
@@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead Hi Friend! I have not dehydrated potatoes before except when dehydrating frozen mixed veggies. Not all brands include potatoes but some do. Other than that, I have not. I may try canning some as it seems like it would be fairly easy. 😊 Our high today is 75 and our low this morning was 49. This is my favorite time of year as far as weather goes. It is such a lovely break from the extreme heat. I hope the high heat does not return, but it often does. Hard to believe thisyear has flown by so fast. My mind is on Thanksgiving & Christmas. I hope you both ahve a great day and that you can relax a bit. 💙💙💙
Hello, that is a fantastic deal! Wow! I really love watching your channel. It amazes me how much energy you have. I am going to watch your video on the french fries so i can make some of my own. I would like to ask, which vacuum sealer do you have? I am on the market to buy one but it can be so daunting looking at all the different types and the different reviews. Thank you for another wonderful video. Have a lovely day.
Thank you Angela 💜 I have a Cuisinart vacuum sealer. It’s only the lower price end. It’s not a fancy one by any means but it gets the job done. We’ve had well over three years now and so far so good 🤞
DO NOT feel bad about the not organic part. That is purely an ideal but almost nobody can attain 100% organic 100% of the time. ❤ . Also the reason to peel is because botulism spores live in the soil so to be truely safe, peeled is the only way to go. That is also true for organic potatoes.
I don't think you need to give us an explanation why you bought yourself more potatoes! Also, peeling them is going to eliminate a lot if not all the chemical residue. Great video 👍
Thanks Paula 💜 The explanation is because I garden organically and grow 95% of our vegetables. I just felt there should be full disclosure so I’m always authentic 😀
We here in NC are devastated and I thank you for your kind thoughts. I’m in the eastern part so my garden was flattened but I can live with that. My friends in the west have lost everything. I love potatoes and would have jumped on that sale! What city do you mean when you go into the city? Thanks!
Maryin, I’m so very sorry for what you have and are going through and all your friends as well 🙏 The city is Montreal. We are about one and half hours away from Montreal. When we say we go into town it’s our tiny little town where we live but when we say the city it’s Montreal. Take care 💜
i call the pinging the song of my people LOL...don't dare feel bad about the non-organic label, you peeled them and they were on sale at that moment for a reason!!!! i got a bunch for free from the local church, i don't look at labels, and for 9.5 cents per pound, i wouldn't blink, i'd just buy. i'm not a fan of dry canning potatoes for the discoloration reason, they aren't bad, perfectly edible, but ugly lol i'm going to try canning fries this time. if you spread them out laying down flat to vacuum, you'll get a flatter pkg :)
Thank you 💜 I appreciate the support! And I’m definitely not dry canning potatoes ever again, yuck! When you say canning French fries..you mean you’re cutting your potatoes into fry shape?

Hello from Ontario Canada. I just found your channel. Very nice!!!
Hello! Welcome to our homestead 💜 We love when fellow Canadians join us 🇨🇦
You got an AMAZING deal! We can’t get caught up in only organic. Potatoes aren’t among the “dirty dozen” so you’re fine AND you peel them. TFS
Thank you Cassandra 💜 I forgot about the dirty dozen! That makes me feel better ☺️
And yes! I can’t believe the price 😀

Great deal. I understand about organic or not. Sometimes you just need to get the deals. Thanks for sharing your heart and your preservation with us.
Thank you 💜 It just seems hypocritical that we grew organic potatoes and then I went and bought potatoes but I agree..I couldn’t pass on this deal!
Colleen, you are just adorable! Thank you for sharing your wisdom! ❤

How do you reheat the French fries? In the oven? Thank you.
Exactly, just like frozen fries you buy from the grocery store. Here’s the video I went into more detail

Homemade French fries with homemade ketchup… sounds like a plan.
A winning combo!
so if i understand right your cooking the potatoes in the jars?
