In the mid 90s to 2000s some of my customers wanted the 3mm seals . Some other customers had this too but the machinest milled the apex slots . This left a X hatched style rough edge on the rotor slots . The penalty was seal sides were wearing and or breaking. I changed machinest and he milll ground the slots and allowed to flash off smooth to 600 grit smooth.. the high boost n wear breakages were reduced over the first method.
Hey Kyle when are we gonna see more on the hybrid renesis project... im with you on that one. I wanted to see the studding process and other processes to complete that build.😊
Perfect vid. All facts. Iv had a rx8 engine come in with rx8 rotors machined to 3mm at rx7 depth . The problem there is there is not enough meat left in the rotor to support the seal. Probably ok a in standard rx8 configuration but not ideal.
Can you also talk about survivability during detonation. Some seals will shatter and destroy your motor while others will just bend and continue running at lower compression pressure.
@KyleMohanRacing I'm building an Hybrid Renesis and I encounter front rotor with a apex seal groove that looks a little wider than normal. Do you recommend cuth them o a 3mm Rx7 type seals or buying a good used rotor and stay with 2mm seals? Thank you!
What brand apex seal did you build those older hybrids with? I assembled my hybrid with mazda OEM rx7 seals for 1986s. Hoping to fire it up in ~ 2 weeks
Regarding applications where a RX8 should be machined to suit the deeper apex seals, is this something you’d recommend when bridgeporting a Renesis engine? I figure this would provide additional support when passing over the bridge (depending on port positioning).
What is the depth of the 2mm rx7 apex seal groove to cut? My rx8 renesis rotor measures 0.245" or 6.24mm deep from the corner of the rotor and i purchased rx7 housings i will be doing a semi possibly full pp for a turbo hybrid build and I'd like to machine the rotors myself on my milling machine (which I accept the risk of creating an expensive paper weight if I don't do it correctly because I'm poor) but cant seem to find any measurements for ordering the proper length tooling to do it.

Im making reasearch on that right now, im planning on building one for my rx8 i wanted to see more of this project

yep, another reason I don't recommend 3mm seals

why does it matter when you cant reuse the seal, and you have to rebuild the motor anyway?
@@blacksnakedotcom when your apex seals shatter it destroys your entire motor and the turbocharger.
Thx
More Rennesis content!!!!

You mentioned wear at high RPM. Which apex seals wear the least at 9k - 10k rpm. Probably the lighted or the hardest material. Thanks
whats best with a low boost turbo on renesis 2005 auto 4 port

I recommend staying 2 mm and using the RX7 seal, which means it's a deep two millimeter grove. 3 mm can work. It's just not my preference
@@KyleMohanRacing Thank you for your input. Good luck in Orlando!

no one ever answers this; and the reason why is that mazda OEMs are the best.

Bridge is in the plate's so apexes don't cross over them.
@@Johnny_OSG side edge of the apex seal seals against the plate. So will partially ride over a Bridgeport.

Can i use a file and a micro meter to deepen the groove?
no, if its slightly off it will cause a failure..
@@KyleMohanRacing thank you
