We should all just collectively ignore Stephen A Smith until he just goes away.
AGREED
Been doing it for 10-15 years. Hop on board
That's the only way he will go away
Yep only basketball people who like listen to his opinions
Can we do that with Jonathan Palpaboner first?
I almost never agree w/Jonathan Papelbon’, but this take is 100% accurate
He is not 100% accurate. I love baseball but Stephen A is speaking the truth. Who cares about standing up for baseball.
Facts same here. He's absolutely right this time
I don't agree with his social politics, or bringing up Trump's name here, but..... He is right.
i agree, never liked papelbon especially after calling out harper in washington but this made my respect go back up for him. he’s 100% right. that dumbass big lip clown doesn’t know shit about baseball and is disrespecting our game
@@stacymccloud1842stephan a has no ability to tell the truth and he has no sports knowledge
I've BEEN ignoring Stephen A Smith for the majority of his career.
oh no how did that work out haha clown
SAS is a clown, pure and simple. Pap is no genius, but his take on SAS is right on.
Pap just sat up there and lied about Steven A being throwing out of some baseball games which is false
ESPN keeps guys like him on because making people angry leads to everyone running their clips and spreading the stories around, increasing engagement, leading to ad revenue.
Bingo
He’s doing his job
Absolutely at this point
I wasn't a Paplebon fan until today. Right or wrong, he has the Stones to speak his mind.
I respect that.
well, wait until tomorrow because the only difference between Stephen A. and Papelbon is that one is an idiot who talks out of his ass on purpose to make money and the other one is Papelbon who does it for free
U a fan of lying
I totally agree with Papelbon. This Smith guy knows nothing about baseball and boxing. He's annoying AF.
I love when narcissists call other people narcissists
Thank you, finally calling it as it is...................
🤡
Yes. And I love when racists call other people racists.
Wait wtf… Stephan A was in a baseball lockeroom… I’m wondering if he has the wrong Stephen smith lmao
News flash. Not the 1st Hall of Fame centerfielder to break down in his 30's after playing in the Bigs since age 19. Taxing position and Trout is still a superstar when he's on the field. Griffey and Andruw Jones had injury issues/decline after their peak too. it's normal
Griff said same thing
And mantle was breaking down his whole career
I quit paying attention to Stephen A. Smith a long time ago. You got the 'A' correct,
If the only options I had for the rest of my life was to listen to Stephen A Smith talk about baseball, or stand next to a 105 Howitzer cannon with no ear protection……I’ll take the howitzer any day.
Bravo🏆
Q - would you rather stick a body part in a garbage disposal for 5 seconds or have to listen to SAS for 5 minutes? 🤔
Have you umm, been next to a howitzer? I'll take Stephen A or ANYBODY over a freakin Howitzer!
@@Maxrepfitgmhell no 13B here he would find a way to break track. I'm not fixing track 😕. Move around man.
Lol - as a baseball and Trout fan, I still thought Stephen A’s take on this was thoroughly entertaining. It doesn’t matter. I actually think the same thing sometimes. Like Jesus Christ - stay healthy bro.
Steven A doesn’t know about 90% of the things he talks about, yes he just yells and is an idiot, But, he’s kinda right about Trout, that sht had me laughing 😂
Stephen A Smith is an expert on injuries. After all, he has a "6 inch" screw in his knee. lol
I had heard he has a few screws in his head. Unfortunately, all of them are loose.
@@MGAF688 they were loose, them bitches done all fell out now.
He never said he was an expert he just said he was tired of Mike trout being injured
It seems like everyone forgets Stephen A. first run with ESPN he was Racist AF and didn't even try to hide it. The second time around he just figure he values the money more then his bigotry.
I’m black & I agree 1000% that Stephen A is racist
I remember when Smith was on ESPN the first time. How was he racist AF?
This is exactly why I like getting my sports news from guys who have actually played the game. Get rid of these journalism geeks.
Foul Territory is one if not the best shows in professional sports for that exact reason and they have Scott who might as well have been in the MLB.
@@Referee-583 Only he wasn't an MLB player so the idiot that made the original comment is a fraud
hahaha
Not all of these guys are athletes so your point is meaningless
I don’t know..Honestly it bothers me when Baseball players are always hurt. I’m not talking about pitchers with are problems.I get it..But with players like Byron Buxton(and I guess Mike Trout now) u start to question what’s going on?
He is racist. See what he said about Steve Nash getting his HC job.
If I remember correctly it was something along the lines that he can not win cause he was white
@@ussfury13 he said he got the job w/ no experience bc of white privilege. That no black coaches get that opportunity. Even though there were a few in the league at the time, like doc Rivers. I believe Reggie Miller came out and said that SAS's comments were a bad look for the black community.
@@dominicdannible4245 Gotcha so my memory was way off
Jason Kidd is black. Stephen A. Smith's comments were about Steve Nash.
@@dominicdannible4245the black community doesn’t like sas so there goes that
As much as I hate SA I have to be objective. Baseball benefits alot more with SA talking about it even if it's something totally stupid. I don't know if anyone really notices but baseball doesn't really get much national coverage. Shows like 1st Take hardly ever talk about Baseball and I feel like that hurts the game. So say what you will about the guy but he's become to big for ESPN to get rid of him and for MLB to say something against him
Paplebon: They should "Go in bed and sleep together" 💀.....thats when Braun had to put his professional hat on and break that awkward silence and Kratz was doing everything possible to keep it together and AJ didn't even flinch . .....man Paplebon came in 🔥 , best baseball broadcast in the game. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pap fixin' to get one of those really uncomfortable videos from Stephen A where he stares in to the camera and pretends to be scary and tough.
Usually when a bunch of idiots come out trying to destroy somebody's take on something it's because they got a little too close to the truth.
Smith is the poster boy for ESPN. A trash human and a trash company.
I love ESPN! They made an extremely smart bet on NCAA Women's Basketball and the WNBA! Huge ratings!! Smart folks over there at The Worldwide Leader!
@@Winjoe69I agree, ESPN has made some good decisions in that regard. Stephen A is a clown though..
Just ignore ESPN.
…and Faux Sports while we’re at it.
Hey now, First Things First is top tier television
I am very glad that other people with an audience are speaking out against Stephen A. Smith's blatant racist comments. He is also a complete hypocrite. I also blame ESPN, and all those that choose to view the show that he is a part of on ESPN. His entire stance on this whole Caitlin Clark issue shows his hypocrisy, and racist nature. This is not the first time he has made racist statements. This is just the most recent.
Not a Trout fan, but Stephen A had a ridiculous take on him.
Everyone knows Stephen A lied multiple times in his fantasy book about him playing basketball.
Mike Trout should invite Stephen A to one of his workouts.
That would be a legendary burn. He could also invite a basketball player and a football player to partake too. All the athletes would end up with mutual respect at the end of the session, while SAS would be weeping in the corner with torn labia.
@@deepzone31 Legendary burn? You sound like an idiot
Did not see Papelbon taking a shot at Trump. Good for him 🫡
Right? I did NOT have that on my bingo card!
Speaking of ESPN, Tell Pap to take the ESPN Baseball book out of his background shot. Not a good look...LOL
Glad people are starting to finally see Stephen A Smith for who he actually is
Papelbon got the guts to call him out for his racist remarks he did it with Jeremy Lin and he tried it with Ohtani
I’ve had a torn meniscus and it is not comfortable. Standing and walking is not easy let alone running.
Good news for trout is he can be back this season.
I had the surgery in March and was playing baseball in June so he will be ok.
Kratz is spot on. Mad Dog didnt stick up for the Trout and baseball either. Spineless
He's such a bum. Stephen A isn't even an expert on football or basketball.
He should've used the "It's a fake!" meme from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. :)
“they should hop into bed together” 🤣
I laughed my ass off as soon as he said that
He’s talking about availability and SAS loves basketball, the king of “load management”. Pot, meet kettle.
to think a stranger can make another person about a complete stranger they’ve never had an interaction with is crazy and the people who follow blindly is insane
Thanks a lot, Jonathan!
Jesus Christ, I can’t believe I actually like Paps. Tortured me for years as a Yanks fan but I respect him and his work
Because he's authentic
I love this podcast. I was done with “Stephen Smith” when even Pat McAfee had an issue with him.
I know Stephen A. Isn't a baseball expert, but his criticism of Trout isn't out of line. I'm sure even A.J. would give out a similar critique for Moncada and Eloy of the white sox.
Exactly 💯
He compared baseball to basketball. Lol. Not football or hockey, but basketball basketball. A game where you're 7 feet tall and your only job is to run 5 steps, no dribbling, jump a foot to dunk a ball and the defense isn't allowed to touch you.
Best comment by Papp was ESPN is ultimately responsible. Keith Olberman had a week earlier tore down S.A Smith’s ignorant and non appropriate political comments by a guy who barely even knows sports let alone politics . You guys and gals continue to produce a quality product of NON-FILTERED MLB conversation. Someday someone is going to offer you a huge sum of money and you are going to be inclined to take but be careful they may just be silencing your speech. We need people like you to tell truth to power.
14:26 This is the most important takeaway from this discussion and is why the rise of independent media is such a BFD. 20 years ago, ESPN was basically your only option for sports coverage. MLB Network aside, the amount of channels like Foul Territory offer fans a lot of choices. And ESPN has struggled to retain viewers because they aren't adapting. I'm shocked Skip Bayless is still a thing. Stephen always had a thing for catchy soundbytes, so no surprise he's hanging around.
I WILL say I think AJ is cut from a similar cloth as Stephen A Smith, but he balances his loose tongue with honesty and great analysis. Loved him as a player, am thrilled to see him thriving as an analyst on here.
God every terrible take from SAS has been shown to me against my will.
ESPN doesn’t do sports anymore. It’s twitter tv
Words are wise men's counters, they do but reckon by them: But they are the money of fools.
Im watching the Stephen A Smith show right now and hes talking about this actually lol
When ESPN dumped baseball from
There prime time coverage on a nightly basis was when the network went down in popularity
Stephen A has never caught an out on a dive, hit a ball out of the park at a high velocity, or threw a ball with such force from the outfield, that you pick off a runner.
Baseball players, especially Trout, are better athletes than he thinks.
Professional baseball players are, arguably, the greatest athletes on the planet when it comes to major, mainstream sports. IYKYK
Trout hasn’t done much of any of that the past half decade
Jason Whitlock proved Stephen A Myth lied about having a college basketball resume.
I don't remember Stephen A. talk about Giancaro Stanton like that !!!!! I can't REMEMBER that last time Stanton played a full season !!!!!
You guys think he’s bad at baseball? You should see him talk about mix martial arts.
It’s over use, repetitive movement injuries. Those are challenging injuries. They don’t heal, especially inseason.
It doesn’t take a genius to understand the difference between a 162 game schedule 7 days per week and 82, and 12 etc… of course football players go super hard for ONE game per week and it’s high intensity and dangerous… basketball is less intense and less dangerous which is why they play more often than football… then comes baseball, however with baseball, aside from the fact that it’s EVERY DAY for 6-7 months, there’s also a whole bunch of STOP and GO… you go from completely cold, to 100% several times per game…. That is INCREDIBLY bad when it comes to likelihood for injury… you don’t even have to know much about out baseball to understand these things….. Steven A just wants to drum up controversy and excitement… that’s all it is
this, this right here... couldn't have said it better. and not to mention what i've seen no one talk about, an injury can happen to anyone at anytime, freak shit happens. Rather you're a top athlete that takes care of their body better than anyone or not sometimes it doesn't matter. i know its not a great example because he was some old, unathletic white dude, that was taking dumps on people during his freak sessions, but just go watch Vince McMahon tear both his quads at the same time jumping into the ring 😂🤣
Stephen Smith insulted every baseball player with that rant. He has zero clue what it takes to play baseball on ANY level, much less MLB.
His ignorance is wild.
Answer this. Why so many injuries this early in the season??? All across the board?? Explain why nobody is looking into it!?
super rare to get kicked out of a clubhouse. damn
Very much disagree with most on here. SAS may not know much baseball but he has a point. We can definitely say Trout is njury prone. And getting hurt with random tears and pulling hammies is riduculous. The guy is finished.
I agree 100% of everything said.
Johnathan Papelbon rocks. I love this guy and his take here.
ESPN just has a bunch of bums on the air these days…for example Malika Dumbdrews, Kendrick Perkins and Molly…
@MadDog is a has been. I can not believe this dude is still employed. For ESPN, MadDog is scared of StephenASmith firing him off the show. No way he defends baseball on that show. Don’t take that show serious.
I don’t like how Paplebon went about it because he went public instead of speaking directly at Stephen a smith first. Having said that I also disagree with Stephen A’s take.
Papelbon was making valid points but it got awkward after he said Stephen A. and mad dogg should go to be bed together...even the fellas had blank looks
@@dirknowitzki3891 that crap was funny about the bed part. Made me laugh 😃
162 games a season these guys play everyday for months with almost no days off ...Training , gym , pitchers Stephen A Smith you are the Dumb Ass of the Month with that take
Only Trout doesn’t play everyday. Hasn’t come close to that in years
@TL2354 I remember a 4 of july 10 years ago family decided to play baseball ...I didn't stretch and I tried to hit the ball so hard I had a rotator cuff tear... I can only imagine these incredible athletes
Trout hasn’t played a full season since 2019
@@NeverKnow225 maybe that's why shohei left
I agree about Stephen A but the Trout injuries
Every year he gets hurt
Joe Rogan called him out on not knowing shi^ about fighting too. What an ignorant person saying that about Trout...
Stephan A is a sports media personality of a very specific era. I'm thinking the 90's to 00's sports talk radio type personality who is loud, kind of angry, and highly opinionated. It's all an act meant to get attention. It's sports talk click-bait from before the social media era. He's mainly a basketball guy. That's his sport. He knows basketball very well but even then you can't take anything he takes seriously. It's all an act. He will occasionally chime in on other sports but you can instantly tell that he has no idea what he's talking about. He says these things because he knows he'll get attention and unfortunately it kind of works. Look at me, i'm writing UA-cam comment because of it.
nah, he doesn't know basketball either.
Truth is, Trout does stay on the injured list. Whether you agree with other stuff he's saying may not be factual, but Trout being injured is a fact.
We need more Paps!
Papelbon cooked here
Ohhh myyyy 😂😂😂…. This was the first I saw Silly A Smith’s actual clip. I heard it happened but it is so much worse than I thought. He sounds so ignorant during that rant it’s insane
What a big mouth. Trout is a stand up guy unlike Rendon and wants to play everyday. Rendon would rather play maybe two three months a year and two or three days a week.
It’s about time Steven A Smith shuts his mouth
Stephen A. Smith is a performance artist, plain and simple. And not a very good one, at that.
Papelbon rocks
Papelbon’s hair is very anime-like.
PREACH PAP!!!! SAS is such scum. He once threatened Kevin Durant live on tv for roasting him back.
Bruh he looks just as crazy on camera than he did on the field, buddy a true psycho 😭
at least he's consistent lol
"Mad dog" russo and stephen A. Should not be in sports, both get on my nerves.
I love paps take on em both😂
As a Mets fan for 20 years, I used to hate seeing Pap...love his take on this though.
Looks like J.P. sure don't care for the guy. People must of pinched a nerve on J.P. Does Pap have anything nice to say about anyone besides himself? However, I always liked Mike Trout. He got married and signed a 420 Million Dollar contract. Then he has got something wrong each year since but he still seems to come back and cranks out 30 HR's. So whomever wants to trash talk him they should go talk to him in person or at the ballpark. Does espn need change? No Doubt. At least we all know a lot of people are looking for ratings.
Fair opinion about Stephen A, but to say he deserves to be fired for saying what he did about baseball… eh 🤷
Also imagine trying to call Mike trout…. One of the faces of baseball irrelevant when nobody even watches you on ESPN anymore…….
Lmaooooooooooo I cried laughing watching this
Pap's ...... Unscripted and un fn censored !!!
sas says outlandish shit for this exact reason. to get people dedicating entire segments to him
😂😂😂😂 damn Papelbon went off on Stephen a Smith
Every time Stephen A Smith talks about a sport outside of basketball, there's a high percentage he is talking out of his ass.
Center Field is somewhat of a taxing postion with plenty of running..
With that being said, I think Mike Trout is carrying too much weight for the position and should change up his workout routine and diet. If he was a lean 210ish instead of linebacker type build at 240-250 he probably wouldn't get injured as much
💯 FACTS
Not surprised at all in what he said about stephen. Nay Smith
Dude gets paid to be controversial but as a baseball guy I am seriously disappointed in SAS. The looks on the faces of the other two hosts were seriously concerned and embarrassed. It was so obvious that They couldn’t wait for him to shut up.
I'm not a Stephen A fan by any means, but baseball players do seem to be overly delicate for a non contact sport. Hockey players are the best example of toughness, baseball could learn a thing or two about grit.
I see him as a racist also. I am not sure if he has been kicked out of club house but he seems shady. He responded but ignored responding to the main issue of him saying ignorant comments about baseball as a sport....Stephen Ahole Smith could not last 9 innings as a catcher.
I'm indifferent with baseball and I still side with Papalbon
The key point here to me is to stop blaming Stephen, and start blaming ESPN. We need to hold ESPN accountable for this if we want it to ever stop.
Correct , ESPN is allowing this stuff to go on and even pay this man millions. It's horrible.
Yep… you can tell he doesn’t know what he’s talking about with that ridiculous rant. Blows my mind he’s gotten as far as he has.
Angel Hernandez knows more about baseball than Stephen A.
I have mixed feelings on this. SAS brought up some valid points and so did this clip. I lost interest in Papelbon once he brought up Trumps name, but i do feel SAS had a brutal take on Trout. He's not completely wrong, but don't fully agree with what he said. Trout's unavailability should piss people off because its not good for the game of baseball overall when one of the best players is chronically hurt every year. Baseball is not a contact sport in the sense of football, hockey, and even basketball. Injuries do happen, but trout is held to a certain standard each year and when he gets hurt, it takes him much longer to recover than other players do. I don't know why, it just does.
that's like saying we should be pissed at Penny Hardaway or Grant Hill. Unless someone blatantly doesn't take care of themselves and doesn't give a shit about, no one should ever be pissed at any player in any sport for getting injured. Shit happens. Every single persons body in this world is different, sometimes there's nothing you can do about it no matter how bad you want it. It probably takes him longer to recover because he, and the trainers, don't want to throw him back into it too soon knowing he's already injury prone and think giving it extra time to heal would be best overall, not just for re-injury of whatever they're recovering from but also because it's added risk you'll injure something else as your body tries to compensate for the previous injury.
Baseball is not a contact sport? How about player collisions, players sliding into bases, outfielders colliding with outfield walls, thrown pitches hitting players? That is not contact? R u serious?
Guys, we can't be this thin skinned about the sport. The dude was being facetious about Trout and the game to drive home how extreme his injury history is. Nobody takes it seriously. You're breathing air into his presence just making a thing out of it.
