We don't play basketball in South Africa, maybe some schools might have it but it's rare. Rugby and soccer are our culture. They are the sports that define us as a country.

6:07 the scrum cap/ headgear is optional, you don't need to wear it but it is used to prevent cauliflower ears. Mostly forwards wear a headgear because they are in scrums and rucks most of the time

8:15 In rugby you can not throw/pass the ball forwards only back and to the side. But kicking is an important part of rugby esp to get out of the red zone (your 22) or to kick and chase to beat a defender

  • @jeffjefferson3364

Lots of comments that tell you that you can kick the ball forwards can't see any telling you WHY they'd kick the ball forwards.
In rugby you cannot tackle or block(you can't ever block in rugby like in American football) any players who don't have the ball, so when you kick it you lose possession but can't be tackled/blocked either.
So an attacker will often commit a defender to defending them and kick the ball forwards, the defender has to turn while your momentum is already going forwards so you'll likely beat the defender to the ball or one of your teammates will beat them also.

There's a good reason you don't dance in rugby, rubbing it in to some of the opposition is a bad idea for a start, you're often in very vulnerable positions in the bottom of rucks so if they'll get you if the really want to, and unless you're on TV noone will know who stuck that finger in your eye socket.
Rugby teaches the value of respect, we don't have to play eachother, the fact the other team shows up for you to play them should be respected. You're playing a game and it's hard enough without rubbing it in too much.

  • @lilbullet158
    @lilbullet158 2 роки тому +2

In Rugby it's Not called a Touchdown it's called a 'TRY' : A try is scored by grounding the ball in the opposition's in-goal area. (What Americans call the 'End Zone'). Unlike American football where the player & ball must make it to the end zone to score, in Rugby the ball Must be placed on the ground in the in-goal area by the player who has the ball.
You can Kick the ball forward but you 'Cannot' pass the ball to a team mate by throwing the ball forward. You can only pass the ball to a team mate Sideways or Backwards.
It may sound complicated but it's not really.

american football came from rugby. the basics of rugby is that
    1. u cannot pass or throw the ball forwards hence why they always pass it to each other by throwin the ball backwards or sideways.
    2. u can kick the ball forwards at any given time and its mostly done to gain territory or yardage.
    3. when crossing the "try line" or "end zone" to score a "try" or in american football terms to score a "touchdown" the ball must be put on to the ground with downward pressure thats why u see them either diving or pressing the ball down in the end zone when scoring a touch down, the score doesnt count if u just crossover the end zone with ball in hand like that in american football. the ball must be put to the ground with downward pressure.
    4. tackling is only allowed from shoulder level downwards. any tackle above that area is iilegal or foul play.
    5. if a player is tackled in the end zone the defender will try to prevent the ball from touching the ground. if successful the play is restarted 5 meters out from the end zone
    6. rugby is non stop even after being tackled the only time theres a break in between plays is when an illegal play or foul is committed.

Perhaps u could do a little research about the rules...there are videos on you tube explaining the basic rules as well as the positions on the field
Once u have a basic understanding you will appreciate the game far more...
This game is the most enthralling game to play and watch.
Also in terms of development, American football is an off shoot of rugby which was is an off shoot of football(soccer to americans).
In rugby u run forward and pass backward. Every player plays offence and defence and is probably the most inclusive sport for all body shapes.
Also there are no time outs and play only stops when the ref blows the whistle.
Rugby games are 2 halves of 40 mins per half with non stop action.
Do yourself a favor and watch some videos ob the rules of rugby...then you will truly appreciate the most amazing game on earth
