St Stithians Boys College is the school singing in the first and third video. It’s my school❤️ we call the boys wearing the half blue and half white blazers the war cry leaders (you’re right, they get us hyped). In the third video, the boys wearing light blue blazers have been awarded honors in a certain aspect (could be sport, academics, culture, etc... eg. rugby). The boys wearing the white scarfs are in Matric (grade 12, final year of high school) - it’s just a privilege. Finally, the boys facing away from the camera in the third video are who we call the dukes, they are pretty much the elite choir of the school and they do a lot of a-cappella. The dukes get to wear grey scarfs to show that they are apart of the group.
One thing I've come to realize is that the lead singer doesn't always have to be a good singer. This High school culture is reflecting the African spirit of singing and rejoicing in life. Also this kind of sing is easy to join in or sing along amagwijo are easy to follow or harmonious along with. They sang siyazalana- which is usually sang at weddings to announce that we are now related, we are connected.
We sing like this when we celebrate events. He is wearing a goat skin on his head its an accessory. All the schools in SA have a uniform. We all wear ties and ironed shirts! SA is lit!
Glad you clicked on the link I shared it's Lit(hope you read my explanation of the songs) 🔥 and also seeing your facial expressions and enthusiasm sums how we feel when we sing iGwijo very 🙂.
Wow, this is fire!! I'm Nigerian and we have fierce war songs too in Igbo (my language). We just do not sing it in school, only at parties, meetings, demonstrations or movies.
I’m from Zimbabwe...we also have war cries similar to Amagwijo during sports competition. Some are cultural but some are remixed songs. A school called Milton High have the closest chants and war cries similar to Amagwijo...seen them perform the chants during a cultural/political parade in Bulawayo by the White City Hall 3days before I left for the UK...the energy was electric near scary but in a good way.
I moved my kids here for 6 months from the states in 2015 so they could experience this. They LOVED South Africa. They went back to Massachusetts to finish high school but will never stop loving South Africa. I moved back here and it was for the people. For the warm heart of this country.
Much appreciate your reactions into these cultural activities Bro, as always ya Lit and I must say if you can’t sing you can clap hands, stomp dance or hold your fist up like y’all do when taking a knee. The songs are spirited enough to make everyone do some sort of movement, especially stomping whilst ululations, war cries and shout outs are of ancestral appeal
This hymns are not only sang by Xhosas we also do them, mostly especially the football/soccer teams before they went to the game. We do them to uplift our spirits. Check out South African football teams singing, you will see what I'm saying
@N O M F U N D O ,maaka man. It doesn't originate from the Xhosa people. The name Amagwijo yes, but each an every tribe has their name for it. Amagwijo is just like the word Lobola, every tribe in SA do Lobola but every tribe has a name for them, like Magadi etc.

We sing on all the events as well.
I would humbly request you do a thorough research before you accuse people of lying. Please 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
@N O M F U N D O lol! I give up 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's called a "umqhele". It's a traditional Zulu tribe headband.
True although "umqhele" in English translate to a crown
Gwijo from Dale College remains unmatched 😭 Queens is also a fave ❤️
You're talking me home right now😭😭🇿🇦
😭okay I understand but Y'all should listen to Barkly East high school
Definitely the 2 schools that are unmatched !!
SA is lit!
I went to Parktown Boys Highschool and I graduated in 2019
My bro went there
Yo we beat you last year at st stithians festival lol
Nobody “graduates” from High School in South Africa 😂. We Matriculate here 😝
@@kamoya8 "They tryna flex 😂. Bro y'all south african and we matriculate😂😂.. We'll see GRADUATION in Varsity 😂😂
Class of 2020 ✊🏾
Glad you clicked on the link I shared it's Lit(hope you read my explanation of the songs) 🔥 and also seeing your facial expressions and enthusiasm sums how we feel when we sing iGwijo very 🙂.
Singing makes us happy, we sing when we are happy, angry, sad and hurt. Some of the songs they singing are apartheid songs/struggle songs
we have the best struggle songs
Wow, this is fire!! I'm Nigerian and we have fierce war songs too in Igbo (my language). We just do not sing it in school, only at parties, meetings, demonstrations or movies.
ngl SA highschools have the best uniforms and school culture🔥🔥🔥love from KE🇰🇪
These songs slap thou, even at the stadium while they playing soccer then the whole stadium starts singing beautiful 😭
Proudly South African.
The thing on the man's head is part of the zulu attire mainly worn by men.
I moved my kids here for 6 months from the states in 2015 so they could experience this. They LOVED South Africa. They went back to Massachusetts to finish high school but will never stop loving South Africa. I moved back here and it was for the people. For the warm heart of this country.
its not bout who can sing ,its about the feeling and rhythm
Much appreciate your reactions into these cultural activities Bro, as always ya Lit and I must say if you can’t sing you can clap hands, stomp dance or hold your fist up like y’all do when taking a knee. The songs are spirited enough to make everyone do some sort of movement, especially stomping whilst ululations, war cries and shout outs are of ancestral appeal
This hymns are not only sang by Xhosas we also do them, mostly especially the football/soccer teams before they went to the game. We do them to uplift our spirits. Check out South African football teams singing, you will see what I'm saying
True.

The uniforms all both public and private school. The guys wearing the half coloured blazers are the Cheer Leaders,as in the lead the cheer. The scarfs is just part of winter uniform 😅nothing special there.
Amagwijo Xhosa spirit is on another level. The Eastern and western cape are mad about rudby! The energy level is......
Yeah bro!!!!,what's up???,I love what you do so much.I am an African living in The Netherlands(Europe)from west africa(Liberia)and you on fire...Thanks so for inlightening the world of our African heritage, soooooo beautiful!!!.It's littttttttttttt.Just want to be Hommmmme..Jah Bless
Almost all African school wear uniforms, in kenya the students with different blazers would be school prefects, the ones with the scarves around their necks would be the students leader... The headband symbolizes a crown, he is most likely the chief/leader
I’ve been waiting for this one I knew it was coming.
That song you like that was sung a bunch of times, here’s a translation:
“We are bretheren, my mother’s offspring (brother). You only arrived yesterday, my mother’s offspring (brother)”
All schools in SA wear uniform. All of us.😂 it’s not a turtleneck that’s his scarf. Blazers are mandatory all year at these all boys schools, you adapt😂
The same applies to school's in Ghana
Man I really love how you are truly immersed in the spirit of your homeland.
"From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia (Cush), my suppliants the daughters of my dispersed ones, shall give an offering of praise..." and so we sing Africa sings in oppression we sing in joy we sing, in gratitude we sing, that is us...you gotta understand...
I am still attending high school in South Africa, I am graduating next year. I go Trinity House Randpark Ridge.
That thing on his head is UMQHELE, it's worn by amaZulu and most Nguni tribes
DALE COLLEGE BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL(2013) amagwijo kings

SACS High School! It's a traditional boys school. Still at school, got one more year left. Amagwijo songs are so fire - they hype everyone up Hahaha
South Africa is a singing nation, we are literally encourage from primary school into high school to sing together and often usually at Rugby games.

I always get goosebumps when I listen to "thina siyazalana"
Nam nam😭😭❤️
I went Hoerskool Noorderland. and I graduated in 2017 and i must say high school was the best and greatest moments of growing up in SA. All schools in SA have uniforms and that is one thing that shows unity among learns, you cant get discriminated if we all look the same. And you should bring your child to this beautiful Rainbow Nation... 👌😁
And this doesn't only happen in high school ,just were ever as long ppl have to cheer as we support each other
i really like hiw you support south africans even though you don't understand our. language
This man's face when they said "ngiyamshova umbali" like he understands what they're saying 😂😂
Wynberg Girls' high school Cape Town (haven't graduated) South African schools have the best school spirit
Lol our winter and America winter is not the same. It could be cold af and the sun would still come out. It's just there for decoration coz it would be freezing
If you can't sing you just clap your hands or atleast take the video don't just stand, do something

That's so true. As if it's out only because it has to do it's job
Yhoo June exams you really feel it😅
17:10 in South Africa if someone doesn't know the lyrics of a particular new song we still sing by mumbling and humming song words to make it stil sound strong and some people wont really notice
U know ds 😂
