  • Mazda's CX-9 is loved by many as perhaps the best-driving three-row crossover on the market. The 2021 Mazda CX-9 offers a few key updates, even though they're small updates overall. Though the 2.5 liter Skyactiv-G turbo four makes 250 horsepower - low compared to some competition, the '21 CX-9 also makes 320 lb-ft of torque, which provides good shove around town. The #2021CX9 Signature is... dare we say it... Miata-like in its driving dynamics and execution. Here's why we liked the 2021 ‪@MazdaUSA‬ CX-9 Signature so much.

This is still one of my favorite three rows, even after being on market all these years. Still sharp.
    Also, sharp outfit! #SkysOutThighsOut

Just finished shopping and its literally the only Mazda model that my 6'3" frame with long legs could fit comfortably in. I don't need a vehicle of that size (was most interested in the CX5 or Mazda 6) so I didn't get it. That's the funny thing about car shopping when you're tall. You read reviews and build a shopping list... then discover many of them just aren't quite comfortable enough.

Jake is just shy of 6'2" - we get it! It's also dependent on where your height is, torso vs legs (or an even split) as to how you fit in various cars and seats.

I understand that Mazda is not a big car company, so they share engines as much as possible. Interestingly, Volvo is also not that big, but it has a 2.5L turbo 4 that is also super charged - the T6. The T6 makes much more power than the T5, even though it is essentially the same engine. Why Mazda did not think of that?

Complexity and reliability, most likely. Mazda's drivetrains are historically pretty solid and adding a second form of boost would have driven up cost and potential maintenance/repair concerns. The best way to make the CX-9 feel a bit more sprightly would be with a different transmission - an eight-speed with more available ratios and shorter gears in some cases (give it a shorter 5th/6th and leave 7 & 8 as tall overdrives) would help it have more punch for passing maneuvers.
