“Time” was a concept album telling a story of a man who time travels from 1981 to the year 2095. A lot of the sounds were futuristic and the lyrics often sci-fi related. This track was a bit different sonically, as it had a more rockabilly vibe. As a Canadian I appreciate the sudden and random switch to French for part of the song 😆. I heard this music video cost a lot of money to make for that time (1981). Great album full of masterpieces.

This track is from ELO's concept album, 'Time.' Basically, the storyline is about a guy from the 80s who time travels to 2095, gets stuck and misses the simplicity of the past, as well as his girlfriend. It's a great album. If you want to hear a bit of a different sound from ELO, you might want to listen to another track from 'Time' called 'Ticket to the Moon' - one of my favourite ELO songs. It's Jeff Lynne (the man from the 80s) singing about trying to find an escape from the strange world he finds himself in now. It's lyrically quite beautiful and has a really haunting tone. Most ELO fans consider it a classic. Also another slightly different sound is 'Wild West Hero.' And for a quirky, storytelling ELO track try 'The Diary of Horace Wimp.'

I was obsessed with the album this is off when I was a kid. About a man who time travelled from 1981 to 2095, and each song explored an upside or a down side, the technology there was, how he missed the people he cared about. Sadly there were more downsides than ups, and he pined to go back, but he was urged to "Hold on tight to your dreams".

Amber was correct. They were singing the chorus in french. I've loved ELO since the 70's.

This is a tribute to the 50s (think Jerry Lee Lewis). Definitely one of my favorite ELO songs, alongside Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, All Over The World, Mr. Blue Sky and Twilight. I hope you’ll have a chance to listen to Twilight since you’ve taken in the rest!

Time (1981) is a thematic album. It's a full story in an album. It looks like it might be Thai or something in the video. This isn't the official video. Eldorado (1974) was another big thematic album for them, with elements of The Wizard of Oz. The cover is ruby slippers and green witches hands. Can't Get it Out of My Head being the big single there. I recommend listening to both albums in their entirety to hear was was intended.

Jeff Lynne worked on some of the later Beatles tunes. John Lennon referred to Jeff as the 5th Beatle. So, it shouldn't be surprising that ELO has some Beatlesque sound to their music.

Actually, you still have much more of their earlier stuff to explore: "Roll Over Beethoven" (the full eight-minute version), "Rockaria" and "Poker" to name just a few. There's also the instrumental, "Fire on High" which will take you on quite a ride.

No other band has musically done what Jeff Lynne has. He is one of the best musicians of our time. He wrote the sound track to Xanadu starting Olivia Newton John.

The vignettes were nods to the pulps of the 1930s. Those were based on the pulp novels of the 1920s. Pulp paper was the cheapest available at the time. Doc Savage, the Shadow and the Phantom were popular in that era.

Thank you so much ❤❤❤ - my favourite ELO song of all time! Amber is absolutely right of course "Accroche-toi (bien) à ton rêve" - "Hold on tight to your dream". It used to be very common to put a French verse in many English songs (usually just a repeat of one of the English verses which is what ELO do). Look at "Denis" by Blondie, "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan and so many more. The whole of the "Time" is absolutely outstanding especially "Here is the News" and "Twilight" (as well as Hold of Tight). "Sunday Girl" (there's a version of this with a French verse in) and "Denis" by Blondie are fabulous too of course 🥰❤ (Denis - being a French MALE name of course).

I'll be deep diving into April Wine thank you 🥰OK three more for you. It's about time Jay and Amber reviewed "Moonlight Shadow" by Mike Oldfield, "Cheap the Bullet" by Barclay James Harvest and "Rain King" by Counting Crows.
