  • I am no expert at either video or wrenching but documented my journey and thought I would share my thoughts. I have the rest of the clips ready to be edited so shouldn't be long for me to post the entire series.

    I have a 84' S10 back home with a SBC swap and had a good selection of tools to use but my workshop was a small carport that I would work out in the cold most of time on my own after work to fix stuff I would break or other big projects year round

    Thankful that someone made a build series on this! I have an 04 TJ as well and about to start my build soon. Pulling the 5.3 out of my 08 Silverado.

      Going automatic or staying manual?

    • @BoostItUp31
      @BoostItUp31 4 роки тому

      Longhorn84 staying manual for sure. Just gonna freshen up the 5.3 and try to use the flex fuel system that was in the Silverado and make it work in the Jeep just for shits and giggles

    • @longhorn8459
      @longhorn8459  4 роки тому

      @@BoostItUp31 Cool, keeping the manual should make the process easier for sure. I'm not sure anything fancy is needed for the flex fuel system although I'm not sure how the TJ tank will feel about it. Keep me posted on how it goes! Also, an 08 is a gen 4 right? That will be a bit different than what I showed, I would highly suggest picking Novak's brain on the swap before starting!

      Longhorn84 yeah I just spent about an hour and a half on that website last week reading up on the swap. Definitely very informative. Hoping to start the swap sometime within the next couple months, just gotta pick up a new daily driver first since the Silverado is my daily right now.

    Great video with really good informaiton, I am gathering information for my conversion... also a 5.3 from a '02 Tahoe in a -99 TJ. Question for you... what axle are you running?

      I have the stock dana 35, no lockers, 4.56 gears. So far, so good but I don't do rock crawling at the moment, just mall crawling!

    Not sure if any one has ask but I’m having trouble figuring out how to connect the TCC . Im running 5.3 with 4l60. Any pointers will help out a bunch. That’s the last piece of my puzzle thanks in advance

    First of all thanks for such an informative video!! Just a few questions though how much money do you think you spent on the 1)engine & transmission and 2) for everything (adapters and such) else necessary to get it going? 3) how much time did it take you from when you started til you finished? I would love to do this to my TJ but need to save some money first!

    • @longhorn8459
      @longhorn8459  4 роки тому +2

      I give some details on my thread but drivetrain was 2k, adapters was 5k, misc 1-2k, so 8-9k. wranglertjforum.com/threads/junior-my-04-tj-5-3-auto-swap-build-page.32150/page-2

    Curious if anyone has ever tried putting in a 3.5 Honda j series motor in a jeep.
    I had an 83 CJ with a Chevy 350 and it would always be overheating. Traded it off.

    Can anyone tell me if a grand Cherokee V8 fit in a 98 Wrangler? Will it bolt right in?

    • @longhorn8459
      @longhorn8459  3 роки тому +1

      I haven't done much specific research on that but I seriously doubt it will just bolt right in and from what I understand they are pretty under powered.

      Thanks. Novak recommended starter on 6494 a stubby starter in order to clear their headers. How close is the stock starter? Any heat issues from headers to starter? BTW, thank you for taking the time and awesome video series.

    What is your reasoning behind picking a gen 3 engine?

    • @longhorn8459
      @longhorn8459  3 роки тому

      Price, after market support, novak resources, etc. what other engines are you considering?

    • @robotsoup13
      @robotsoup13 3 роки тому

      Longhorn84 hoping to go the same route but most likely with an older drive by cable engine

    • @longhorn8459
      @longhorn8459  3 роки тому +1

      Dylan Campbell definitely, then you can probably keep the Jeep pedal right where it is and use the existing throttle cable, I like the idea. Do you already have the engine or are you just wanting drive by cable?

    • @robotsoup13
      @robotsoup13 3 роки тому

      Longhorn84 don’t have anything yet, just have a good deal coming up on a drive by cable donor vehicle from a friend
