I have lived in New Zealand for 32 years now but was born and Brought up in Middlesbrough. It was a regular trip for my mother to pay the hire purchase at Watts's shop in the fiftie's and sixties. I remember many of the places and especially the chemists shop on the corner of Gresham Road. I remember the large curved bottles of different coloured liquids that they had in the window. I wonder what happened to those bottles, they were about2 feet tall and must have been very expensive for the shop to buy.

From a very personal perspective. This is by far and away the best video that you have produced.
The reasons for this is that it is a remarkable piece of social history, as many of the images show shops and people getting on with their everyday lives.
I often wonder what the people who were captured in these images would think if they realised that they would be viewed many years on.
It also reinforces my view that in terms of the changes that have been made in the teqn have made it socially, artectually , visually homogenous and characterless.
Gone are the individual shops and traders, only to be replaced by supermarkets and other faceless capitalists who are driven solely by the God of money
My particular interests are of former shops, roads and buildings of old Middlesbrough.
    This has made my day
    Thanks

Thank you Ant, since the 1960's I think most towns have changed and their high streets and town centres have been taken over by the ubiquitous chain stores with their identical facades. You are right, sadly towns have lost their individuality and although I first started making these videos to mainly show the architectural changes in Middlesbrough I have realised they also so the social changes as well. As for the shops and shopping centres I wonder if in 50 years someone updates these videos to show how online shopping changes the town centre and high streets has changed things once more.
Thanks again Ant for your kind comments and support of these videos, I hope that in your retirement you find as fulfilling hobby as I have in mine.

These videos need to be seen by a much wider audience.
Have you contemplated contacting the Gazette
Or alternatively I have worked with Radio Tees DJ Gary Phillipson
He is a top bloke and would lo e to do a broadcast about this....

@@antpearson9676 I'm glad that you are keeping busy, as for getting these videos seen by a wider audience I might try the Gary Phillipson route.

Hi Steven I love❤your videos, it’s really a shame that those lovely buildings are lost, and cheap horrible buildings put up over months, but just memories left behind.

Hi Amarjeet, thank you. It is sad that that so many buildings of great character have been lost and even sadder that they were replaced by bland boxes 😥

Thank you Steven, I’m from Wolverhampton and I love ❤️ it here, my father used to take me to a pub near my house, in the early 70s, called the elephant and castle. They knocked it down overnight, it was a beautiful pub, thankfully they rebuilt it again at the Black Country museum. I went there yesterday and bought great memories as a kid.

Why was Newport Rd decimated like that? Bearing in mind it's an empty space now was something built there in the interim?
