Interesting, my first experience hand loading was 45 auto with RCBS dies, I knew nothing then. My experience is nothing like yours. I cannot believe an experienced loader would have such a bad and insurmountable problem with a die set.
Don't worry, the dies will work on any press. I have always bought the custom grade dies by Hornady. There is a match grade, but never needed those especially for pistol loads.
Good note on the lighter fluid.. thanks. Yeah, expanding the case mouth is sort of delicate. If I do it too much then the bullet tends to fall in. I'd rather have it a little small than too big, but that's just my preference.
@BrandoMcWilli Not yet. Going to check a gun show in Dallas this weekend to see if any great deals. (I'll still buy from my local dealer...but he says he'll match any deal I find if I'll add 10%...I like supporting the local guy, especially since he got me into my gun club!)
Hi. Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask about the loading blocks. What brand and where did you buy. I have RCBS loading blocks but they only have 80 holes (40 big and 40 small). I have some Hornady equipment (which is great) but I'm a diehard RCBS user. I absolutely love the green machine. You just can't beat their customer service. With regards to the crushed cases, the die wasn't adjusted properly. That's why they crumpled. I've done it before. It happens, especially the first few times, depending on your learning curve. I'm a slower learner than most :)
Of Hornady's latest selections, what is the best pistol die sets for the Lock and Load Classic? Can they be used on a Dillon RL550B press? I have ordered a Hornady Lock and Load and plan to, at some point, add a Dillon to the reloading bench so I need to know this before I purchase any dies. Thanks for your help and videos.
Regular Alcohol from the Dollar Store Drug section works at removing any Film that is coated on the dies & Alcohol will not harm any of the rubber parts on the die's
My Win 308 cases were sticking into mt new Hornady Resizing Die even though I Lubed the cases good, But I did not clean & degrease the new dies before using them, & make sure that that Hole in the die was not clogged, I am going to clean them good & try resize my Brass again etc.
Are you sure that you belled the mouths enough? I get case collapse when I don't. Lighter fluid works great for cleaning powder measure because it totally evapoprates.
Yea I’ve been using RCBS since 1970 and the only time any of your problem occurred, was when I screwed up. Competitive shooter and carry for a living. So I’ve discovered after 100’s of thousands of rounds, that you do have to be smarter than a green plastic box.
I've been loading 45 ACP for over 40 years using Rcbs dies, shell holder and a rock chucker press and I've never had that problem. I think it's rather low bad mouthing a great product because you failed to read and or follow the instructions provided with a product you were not familiar.
I crushed a few learning to use my RCBS dies, but it was admittedly my fault. I learned very quickly to expand my case mouth when using flat bottom bullets. I did not see that as an RCBS issue at all. I have RCBS, Lyman, Lee and Redding die sets; but somehow I've never tried Hornady dies. (I'm sure they would be fine)
Funny thing, I reloaded 45 acp for quite a few years using various dies including a Dillon Square Deal setup. Never once did I have the sleeve on a seating die. I didn't have the problem you compain of unless I scrimped on the neck expanding process. This includes on the progressive press. In all cases I taper crimped the acp cases in a separate step (one reason the progressive was so nice.). Don't get me wrong, I think the sleeve is a good idea, but the absense of it does not preclude loading good ammo.
I AGREE, I USE ONLY RCBS EQUIPEMENT, AND THE ONLY TIME I HAD A SHELL LOOK LIKE THAT WAS THE FIRST ONE I EVER LOADED. THE REASON IT HAPPENED IS BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO ADJUST THE DIE AT THAT TIME.
Well it is now Nov 2017 - I got the same results from my hornady seat / crimp die. What I found out is that I was crimping too much. Looks like that is what happened with the RCBS die. You crimped too much. Needs to be backed off
Loaded thousands of 45ACP with most manufacturer's die sets. No problems. A poor carpenter blames his tools. STOP what your are doing and review your reloading procedures. There are plenty of how to videos to help beginners through the maze of safe handloading.
Needs a sleeve to load ACP correctly, to the Biases Baser! of fine made American reloading equipment, you should be ashamed of yourself! for on-purposely setting up the RCBS seating and crimp die to cause damage to the reloading stock!! trying to make other believe that it's the equipment and not the operator who created the damage, and should not be allowed to instruct others in the proper set up and use of reloading equipment no matter who the manufacture is? No excuse for unintelligent..... D
Great video for someone like me who is just starting out with reloading! Thanks.

Great video!!! Very informative, keep the Hornady videos coming!!!
It does help if you stick to using the past or the present tense throughout.

no you have to buy the bushings separate, but some come with the press.
I've been reloading with both hornady and rcbs for years. The only time I ever crushed a case it was my fault, not the die's.
Just a side note for anyone wondering RCBS makes wonderful reloading equipment!!

@BBill011 I hope I don't disappoint, but I'm in GA. BUT........ I'm extremely happy you liked the video !!! I'll keep them coming.

After I cleaned my Dies I brush the insides With some Motor Mica, it helps make the die's slick etc.
@scooter17568 Thanks... Did you buy your kit yet?
Any idea where to get a replacement rod/decapping pin for an old Hornady 308 set with a internal
neck sizer
Great video thanks .

when you buy the die's do they come with the bushings you need with the lock n load?

Non Chloranated Break Cleaner ($ 2.50 )A can at Wally World or any Auto Shop.? Does a great job & dries instantly on the dies.?
I appreciate if you tell me what is ur hornady dies thread size . Thx
You ever used Lee dies
Will the RCBS primer swager tool combo work on a Hornady Single stage press?
Supposed to be universal threads.

Look like they were not properly expanded at the end.
