The percentage profit margin from factory to retail was approximately the same as buying multiple kilos of heroin in Pakistan, smuggling it to the UK, cutting it and selling by the quarter ounce. The person writing the article, part of the pharmaceutical industry, said that was for factories in developed countries and was cheaper for a factory in India for example. It's not a medicine as such but the wholesale price of caffeine in 2012 was 36 U.S dollars per kilo. Admittedly nobody is spending 100s of dollars a week on paracetamol but that is a good profit. the guardian says something on it! look up for article: UN hunger expert: US must recognize ‘right to food’ to fix broken system
“In 2021, the US and Israel were the only countries to vote against a United Nations committee's draft that asserted food as a human right. The draft also expressed alarm that the number of people lacking access to adequate food rose by 320 million to 2.4 billion in 2020 - nearly one-third of the world's population.” ^^
it is also mentioned in the united nations digital library! look up: The right to food : resolution / adopted by the General Assembly
and if you need a third source, it is mentioned in the UN press! look up: Third Committee Approves 11 Drafts Covering Use of Mercenaries, Women in Rural Areas, Unilateral Coercive Measures amid Sparring over Right to Food
“In other action, the Committee approved a draft on the right to food by a recorded vote of 180 in favour to 2 against (Israel, United States), with no abstentions, expressing alarm that in 2020, the number of people lacking access to adequate food rose by 320 million ‑ to 2.4 billion ‑ amounting to nearly a third of the world’s population, and that between 720 million and 811 million people faced hunger.”
a spokesperson for US has explained why in this following article: Explanation of Vote of the Third Committee Adoption of the Right to Food Resolution
“This resolution rightfully acknowledges the hardships millions of people are facing, and importantly calls on States to support the emergency humanitarian appeals of the UN. However, the resolution also contains many unbalanced, inaccurate, and unwise provisions the United States cannot support. This resolution does not articulate meaningful solutions for preventing hunger and malnutrition or avoiding their devastating consequences.
The United States is concerned that the concept of “food sovereignty” could justify protectionism or other restrictive import or export policies that will have negative consequences for food security, sustainability, and income growth. Improved access to local, regional, and global markets helps ensure food is available to the people who need it most and smooths price volatility. Food security depends on appropriate domestic action by governments, including regulatory and market reforms, that is consistent with international commitments.”

So many people say people should move to Texas away from California and stuff because it costs so much less in Texas... but they fail to consider something else.
Wages are also lower in Texas. So much so that the actual cost of living difference between California and Texas is a fraction of a percent. California costs more to live in... but they also pay a whole lot better. And vice versa. Texas is cheaper... but companies pay a whole lot less.
And with more and more people moving into Texas, soon they are going to be paying a whole lot less but that low cost is going to skyrocket. Especially electricity (which has already skyrocketed).

Edit: The way to make insulin was sold for a dollar and it only costs 2-4 dollars to make, but they sell it for upwards of 200 dollars, our government could easily pay for that stuff for us with our tax money if prices weren't exponentially bigger than they needed to be. These companies would benefit weather or not they sold it cheaper or not but they make more profit if it's harder to buy. They'd make it 10,000 dollars if they would still be able to make sales from that.
It took a lot of digging as the industry tries to keep it hidden but I eventually found out that paracetamol (Acetaminophen) cost less than 10 US dollars to produce, tablet and package 2,000 500 mg tablets. I'm not sure how long ago this was, several years at least. Maybe it's 2 or 3 times that now. Retail prices based on UK and Ireland.
