Changed my coils using your video. My 2008 Cayenne Turbo has 88,000mi. 7 out of 8 coils were cracked or broken. Runs way better now. Thanks for posting. Also ... don’t listen to the haters ... your doing a great job and your videos are done well.
Thanks for the video! I just did the procedure on my 2013 Cayenne GTS. It’s a straightforward procedure but definitely a tight compartment. Vice grips on the socket is definitely the way to go to remove the covers. I had a radiator hose on the back of the right side that was in the way but there is a clamp that can be removed to give you the room to do the work. I also used compressed air to remove any dust and dirt in the spark plug chamber before I remove the spark plugs. I also tend to lock tight all the bolts. I got my OEM parts from eBay which cost me about 350 much better than the 1200 to do the job at the dealer.
Great video! Knowing how to replace ignition coils & spark plugs is good and even if you don't have the same vehicle the process may be similar. - Videos are getting better, keep killing it with the content :)
I took out all the ignition coils for inspection and found them all cracked. Some were cracked at multiple locations. The torque dampner was severely cracked and torn as well. Waiting on parts from amazon. Thank you car fanatics for the heads up. Keep them coming.
I am the luckiest man alive!!! Kidding...sort of. My 2010 GTS was starting to exhibit slight hesitation at times but sucked it up and took it on a camping trip up the California north coast. Day before we left to come home, the CEL came on and my handy obd-ii reader showed as ignition coil related but car was still running okay so cleared them and drove home. No CEL the whole way home. To be safe I ordered new Beru coils last night. Today I just took a short drive to corner store and started running rough and throwing a flashing CEL. I stopped and turned it off, then restarted and it ran fine rest of way home. Got home and read the codes and have a misfire on cylinder 5. Parked in my garage until the new coils arrive next week. Will drive my miata until then.
Excellent video, I am thinking about getting one of these and I am shocked how easy they are to work on, if you have buy some extensions it will make things a lot easier.
Thanks Car Fanatic, your video was super helpful! There's a mistake in the description though: Spark plugs for an '05 Cayenne S should be FGR 6 KQE. The ones you listed are FGR5NQE04, which are longer than the OEM ones. Hope this helps, and thanks again for your videos.
Good video!! Seems pretty straight forward. All though I definitely would've tested it before I put all the engine dressing back on. You live dangerously my man!!! ; )
Haha. Yes, I can be hasty at times. Good news is I went back to Tahoe this past weekend and the Cayenne didn't give me any troubles. As always, thanks for watching!
Thanks for providing link to eCarguide. Who to trust when ordering parts? According to Autozone or Bosch or eCarguide Bosch 7432 is correct fit for my 2016 Cayenne S but when I entered this in Amazon and my car info, Amazon fit is saying it will not fit and same story is with ignition Coils?
Fantastic video! I am just about to go through this process and I am wondering if you have to disconnect the battery before doing this? I have seen some threads that said the battery had to be disconnected but I've also watched the videos and there is no mention of that? Thanks
Ignition Coil prices are all over and most of them are like generic as there no listed brand name and no reviews on Amazon. Prices I have seen from $13 to $95 for a single coil? Not sure which one to buy?
Nice video! I've changed all my plugs once and a few plugs and coils since then. Im planning to change out all the plugs and coils along with that engine mount (if needed) here in the next month. Usually when i start to notice rough idle it is one of the coils that went bad. I have 212,000 miles on my cayenne s and love it!
Incidentally, Scotty Kilmer mentioned yesterday that he removed iridium plugs with 100K on them from a Toyota. They had lost 1/1000 mm from the electrode and otherwise appeared satisfactory as well !!! This is certainly consistent with their status in my car. So, I don't plan ever to change mine.
Nice. Yeah, my stock plugs didn't look to bad. Main reason I replace them routinely is I don't want the spark plugs to potentially seize up. Spark plugs have a coating to prevent corrosion & seizing, but this wears away with time. Keep the Lexus running strong! It'll take you very far!
Honestly, it's something that you do not really have to worry about. My car's engine is all aluminum and removing plugs for inspection was easy. By far the greater danger is in allowing someone else to do the job...someone who doesn't torque the plugs to the appropriate setting.
Hey, very good clear video, i will use it for my change too. But please tell me, why did you end up stranded, was it because your warm engine didn't start anymore? Did it only start when cold? Or what caused the sparks and coils on your car? Thnx
I have 2016 Cayenne S. Is there engine difference in terms of parts between base vs S? From where to get parts? It seems like your amazon link is not working for my Car. It takes me to Amazon and I have entered my car info and Amazon correctly pointing out it will not work on my car but further click on similar products for my vehicle or new search at Amazon is not yielding good results.
I have problem I removed ignition coils and broke green wire on conector plug do the sell separate or can wire be spliced and taped together and will it work the same check engine light came on can some one help me with advice thanks
Basically re-wrapping the wire with the plastic material. It looks like a sleeve that goes over the wire, then you heat it up with the solderer and it shrinks around the wire.
Car Fanatic thank u u now have one more fan👍🏻 there are some other issues I’ll be hitting you up for advice with my Porsche Chyanne 2003 thank you once again👍🏻
Thanks for the video, how reliable is this truck from 1-10? broke down or malfunctioned any more? Any owner can answer and I would appreciate it! Looking to buy a 911 or Cayenne Turbo 958
+Carlos Espinoza no other issues. I had a Check Engine Light come on, but it went away. Most likely I did not tighten the gas cap all the way. The car does consume about 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. If you don't need the practicality, get a 911. It will be more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
What kind of car? I'm sure your engine would run smoother with new plugs and coils. Even prior to a coil failing, I notice the engine is smoother and quieter with the new plugs and ignition coils.
'98 Lexus LS400, perhaps the most perfect sedan ever built. Denso "guarantees" those particular plugs for 100K and many club owners aren't even considering changing them until 200K. There's a poster who uses them in a Honda product and has more than 600K miles on his. I don't recall if he gave current gap measurements.
Yeah, spark plugs are quite robust and simple in design, so I believe it. I would rather perform the preventative maintenance and keep the engine running properly to prevent other issues from manifesting. Toyota's are extremely reliable and not super expensive to fix.
I prefer to repair whatever is malfunctioning. That's much easier now than in decades past since the advent of OBD II. Very little of significance escapes the watchful eyes of all those on-board computers. Even if I don't detect a misfire, they likely will. Of course, the exhaust is analyzed for unburned hydrocarbons, etc.
My spark plugs have been changed but only one coil failed at 120,000 miles. I guess I should change the others but it's a lot of work. Is it ok to replace them one by one?
I'm about to have the ignition coils on my 09 GTS replaced. Recommendation on what specific spark plugs I should use? Factory or possibly something better that you'd recommend?
I've got 68k on the odometer. Never had the plugs changed since I bought it (had 30k on dial). I have noticed some ruff idling. Before I start thinking about scored cylinders, I want to try this. No fault codes yet either.
+Mason Park I recommend going with the OEM Bosch plugs and Beru ignition coils. Be sure to get the latest version of the Beru coils. Good luck and keep me posted on whether this resolves your issue.
Car Fanatic the rattling was an exhaust leak. Replaced the secondary cats with some HHR resonated secondary cat bypass pipes. I've never done a dyno so I can't really accurately give you HP increases but the sound is much more aggressive. I replaced the plugs and coils with the Bosch plugs and Beru coils. They were due anyway so I just went ahead with it. For ppl interested in DYI vs mechanic cost - the lowest quote I got (from a certified Porsche mechanic) was $1150. Plugs and coils were $450 so expect around $600-$700 in labor. Seems kinda high right? It should be around 2 hours to complete. My quotes were all based on D.C. pricing, it may be less depending on where you live so don't quote me :)
I have been subscribed to your channel and love all your different videos! You should start doing Porsche car reviews, I think you would do so much better job than what's currently on UA-cam. Also I think you should put anti size lubricant on your spark plug threads prior to install.
+Naveed Chaudhry thanks for the kind words! As for anti seize, it is actually not recommended. I believe the spark plugs have an anti seize coating on them. In any case, spark plugs should be replaced periodically or there could be big issues!
Can anyone comment on the performance gain I can expect from replacing my coils? I don’t have any ‘bad’ coils at the moment - just very old ones (+100K on them) I’m just asking if I will feel a difference in power delivery, torque, etc
also your coils might not be “very old” it depends on your car and what the service manual says. change them out when the service/maintenance manual specifies.
I really can’t get past removing the plastic pins to remove the air box and the other screw to remove the hose to access the back driver side coil. Wtf
This is probably the best Porsche cayenne 957 spark plug replacement video on UA-cam. So easy to follow , u remind me a little bit of Chrisfix

+Tsegaye Gebremariam please let me know if the tutorial video works for you!
Car Fanatic Oh your tutorial was a fantastic tool. Thank you. I will be relying on your videos from now on as long as I have my cayenne.

Fantastic video - really appreciate you putting these guides together - saving us all a ton of money!
Thanks for all the parts listed. I just bought a low miles 2008 V6 today. This is the first thing I be doing to it.
Those are remarkably easy to do! I've done coils on an early Navigator, they were a pain.
Another great how-to for the Cayenne! Thanks once again! Great pointer on the engine dampener while you are in there!
Thnx dude. I almost took it to the dealers but they were closed and I needed my car by the morning
+Sergey Kononov nice. Were you able to replace them?
Car Fanatic yes. Cylinder 8 was a pain but it's nothing difficult.
Excellent video, I am thinking about getting one of these and I am shocked how easy they are to work on, if you have buy some extensions it will make things a lot easier.
Great vid. I have a 2006 with a ruff idle. Now I know i can fix it myself.
it’s not always spark plugs
Excellent video. I plan on working on my 2004 Cayenne S soon thanks to this video.
A torque wrench should not be used as a regular wrench. Throw calibration out.
@Peyton Cole
How is this a reply to my torque wrench comment from 2 years ago
Hahahahaha you funny guys.
that’s what i was thinking
thanks for the slot and best regards from Poland
Thanks Car Fanatic, your video was super helpful!
There's a mistake in the description though: Spark plugs for an '05 Cayenne S should be FGR 6 KQE. The ones you listed are FGR5NQE04, which are longer than the OEM ones. Hope this helps, and thanks again for your videos.
It's not an '05 though is it.
It’s 2008 I think
Nice video. Clear instructions.
I probably would not be able to put it back together...
Every service for this car is a thousand or better no matter how small
Ha, yeah, if you take it somewhere to get done. Parts are expensive though as this video shows.
I’ve had the original ignition coils in my Jaguar XK8 for 24 years. 😂 First one finally crapped out. These porsche coils are known to be crap.
Seems very easy. I had a E39 BMW 530i and it was almost exactly the same.
Nicely done. Thanks 😊
Good video!! Seems pretty straight forward. All though I definitely would've tested it before I put all the engine dressing back on. You live dangerously my man!!! ; )

hi Car fanatic, is the ratchet you are using is that 3/8 " drive? (so its the one underneath the 16mm socket)
Great things bro
Fantastic video! I am just about to go through this process and I am wondering if you have to disconnect the battery before doing this? I have seen some threads that said the battery had to be disconnected but I've also watched the videos and there is no mention of that? Thanks
I'm not sure but it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery.
Excellent video! I did the same, easier than it seems thanks to your detailed professional video! Thank you :) - subscribing
What would happen if you don’t install plastic cover for ignition
That means less heat for coils?
They may last longer
Just wonder
Great video again
Thanks Tom. I'm not sure what would happen but the newer ignition coils have been updated, so hopefully they last longer than the originals.
What size spark plug socket do I use
This is great!
great video what tool did you use model and where to buy thank you
Good informative video. Engine Torque Strut Mount I am assuming is specific to Turbo trim as I did not see in my Cayenne S?
The S model also has one!
Ignition Coil prices are all over and most of them are like generic as there no listed brand name and no reviews on Amazon. Prices I have seen from $13 to $95 for a single coil? Not sure which one to buy?
Love you self reliance attitude but wanted to ask how did you learn to work on the car ? That Cayenne is my favorite color...sweet. BW
Awesome!
Thank you for the video. Do the new ignition coils have to be covered with some anti seize paste for easier removal in the future?
Do you mean dielectric grease?

Do you add any grese either on spark plugs or coil for moisture or Corrosion? I did not see it Video?
Nope. Porsche does not recommend any!
Hey, very good clear video, i will use it for my change too. But please tell me, why did you end up stranded, was it because your warm engine didn't start anymore? Did it only start when cold? Or what caused the sparks and coils on your car? Thnx
A coil when bad while I was driving which caused the engine to run only on 7 cylinders.
Hi, did you disconnect the battery, during the spark plug replacement?
Nope

I thought you kept saying a "E50" socket lol. I was like WTF I need another weird socket?!?!
I have problem I removed ignition coils and broke green wire on conector plug do the sell separate or can wire be spliced and taped together and will it work the same check engine light came on can some one help me with advice thanks
You can probably splice it back together but you need to solder it properly and shrink wrap it
Car Fanatic oh all right sounds good , okay and what do u mean by shrink rap it
Basically re-wrapping the wire with the plastic material.
My pleasure!
are these the same tools required for the 2011 Cayenne S?
+VANZ STRINGZ there could be some slight differences, but it should be very similar. Engines from the 957 were carried over into the 958.
Okay thanks
Thanks man

Carlos Espinoza I bought mine new and now it's 117000 miles. It had an issue with awd motor but that's about it.
Gosh, I have 150K on my iridiums and my tech tells me they are still within factory spec range. Never had to replace any of the coils.
What kind of car? I'm sure your engine would run smoother with new plugs and coils. Even prior to a coil failing, I notice the engine is smoother and quieter with the new plugs and ignition coils.

Mason Park Dis you feel a difference in power delivery after changing the coils?
Bosh OEM Spark plugs and NGK coils. 👌
Thank you
How much more work would head gasket be
Engine out job. 5-6 k
Is is the same process for a Cayenne GTS 2010?
more or less. spark plug changes are almost alwyas the same on any car expect diesel, boxster engines ( porsche boxster, subarus etc )
what is the spark plug gap?
It depends on the specific engine. However, the Bosch spark plugs come pre gapped.
best compliments...

no performance gain, unless yours are underperforming
also your coils might not be “very old” it depends on your car and what the service manual says. change them out when the service/maintenance manual specifies.
Man everything on Cayenne looks so much easier than 911..
Spark plugs are easier for sure, but the Cayenne is not an easy car to work on because the engine bay is so cramped.
It's a V8 engine so like most V8 it's not that hard to do spark plugs and coil packs.
I really can’t get past removing the plastic pins to remove the air box and the other screw to remove the hose to access the back driver side coil. Wtf
What's snagging you up?
@@CarFanatic that screw that’s clamping the hose in front of the coil. I can’t reach it with anything
@@CarFanatic I don’t understand why they would ever put that hose right over the engine coil like that
👍👍👍💪💪💪💕💕💕
How hard to show us the Old spark plug? omg just show it to us ?
Sorry
This guy is CUCU (HE BOUGHT A CAYENNE)
$1000 for a spark plug change???
I have a 2006 turbo S and my INDEPENDENT shop that “only” charges $120 an hour charged me $880 5 years ago for coils and plugs.
Get a real car, get a Lexus suv
Na too slow
Thank you.
