Hi James, in 1990 I purchased new, one of the last concert grands made with Ivory keys. It sat in a warehouse for 4 years before I bought it. If you are ever in North Carolina, near Asheville, The welcome mat is out for you ! Last year, the action was regulated back to factory specs ... and the hammers renewed ... it is a joy to play !
Loved this video and not often you hear the 3rd Movement of the Moonlight Sonata. Beautifully played James. If I won the lottery I would buy a house with a dedicated music studio and a Bechstein. Always loved these pianos since I played my music teacher's Bechstein 50 years ago. Oh well. I can dream 🙂
THey are pretty impressive. a friend owns one in his studio in toronto. I hope to get up there to play it soon. They are Still a rarity up here in Canada. They seem very refined. Beautiful instruments .
Greetings James! after hearing the way you played this C. Bechstein AND seeing your facial expressions after playing, I think your next "personal studio" piano needs to ba a C. Bechstein model - full concert grand! I've seen how you react to Fazioli, Steinway, and others; but never with the same exuberance you displayed at that C. Bechstein. You may have found a real piano "partner" in creating your finest performances. At least worth a few minutes consideration, no?
Bechstein made my favourite pianos. Of course I could never afford a new one or even a nice second hand grand, but was once offered a really nice little pre-1914 upright in the 1990s. £1000 at the time, which was no small amount of money for me ... It had been in the same house all its life in the care of one family. The real problem was getting the piano into my flat. Up a very long staircase with a right angle turn at the top. I did have the chance to play the Trout Quintet with the owner of the piano playing it, and a nice group of highly talented amateurs on the other strings. I played the double bass. This was a newly made [my commission from a now deceased but great lutheir]1995 five stringer, deliberately strung with gut and silver wound gut. I was the only person present who played on a professional basis, and obviously am fairly useless on the keyboard. Bass players usually are! I wish I had the chance to get that little Bechstein. It played Bach absolutely to the manor born. Best wishes from George
192 cm is about 6 ft. 3 inches. Sounds clean, clear and lush, a great combination. And this is an Academy Bechstein, not even a Concert level model. Fine review and playing, as always. Love when you're enthusiastic about a very fine piano as this one sure is.
This piano is from the top tier concert range. I can see why it's confusing as C. Bechstein keeps changing the names to confuse everyone. All the second-tier academy range starts with an A however, this piano belongs to the concert range despite the A in the name. This particular model used to be called M/P192 now it's called A192. Have a good day.
@@MrLoulou226 Sure is. I liked it better when it was C Bechstein and Bechstein. Then the tiers were easier to distinguish. But this explains why it sounds so great. Thanks.
James, I really like it when you play a selection all the way through it gives me a chance to hear the piano and watch your dexterity on the keys. You are truly remarkable. Dexterity, I doubt that's the right word or not
Beautiful sounding piano (and performances)! I must have a tin ear since most of these pianos sound wonderful! Treble is crisp and crystal clear; almost bell like. Another great review! Thanks!
Hi! I think that smaller pianos have an appeal of their own. Maybe Schubert should be played on those more often. They are not minor, they are different. Greetings from Vienna!
Claire de lune and piano sonata are the best test pieces because they show the instruments at their best or worst. This piano gets it right in spite of it's smaller size. I approve of this piano and your expert playing. So many great pianos, I can't make up my mind, iam impressed, but need help. Thank you for your honest services ❤️👍🎼🤩🎼.
you're a beast! super cool man! Hope you get the chance to test the new digital pianos from Kawai - CA 79 and CA 99. Your opinion would be very much valued :) - such a pleasure watch you play!!
This is an remarkable piano indeed. Not as warm as an bösendorfer but still a very, very good sound. Surely if you consider that you record it at the namm2020. Not the best environment I think. Nice piano, good playing. Like it. Thank you for sharing.
Hey James! Any plans to test the new Casio Grand Hybrid GP-510? A reviewer said its pretty much the same thing of playing a grand, that you can lose yourself in it. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Love the bechsteins,I've tuned many in my career so I bought an upright mk4 and I noticed the tenor b is tubby on all of them, have you noticed it James.
Should you have the opportunity, try the B212! Same sound, a bit more substance in the bass. Oh that bass! It is just there, without any effort, just like that.
Such a great song! And great piano! Also I have a suggested piece for you to learn or atleast give feedback on as to what you think of it. I find it to be one of the most incredibly beautiful pieces I've ever heard (100%opinion not fact) "Eternity: memories of lightwaves". CalcAzn has a good recording on UA-cam. Of course you are under no obligation to check it out :)
Fantastic video and piano. But I have one question: In the 3rd movement, does the piano and especially the high notes sound "cut off" to you, too .. or did you not use the sustain pedal as much as usual... or is that a recording issue? I have heard you play this piece many many times and I have never noticed this kind of cut off notes. It might just be a noise reduction filter killing all reverb .. Or maybe my ears are getting as old as I am :-)
It's possible I was pedaling differently than usual, because it's hard to hear what's going on at the show. Honestly I'm not sure what you're hearing, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was an amazing piano.

I think that would be very enjoyable. If you would like me to come and review your piano just send me a message at thepianoforever@gmail James
“A dream to play” and a dream to listen to.

One of the most pleasing piano sounds I have ever heard from top to bottom. Bravo, Bechstein!

Beautiful demo James. Really appreciate all your effort to show us the tone of these pianos.
that sounded so sweet, I watched it twice ..
James thanks for all you do! We are so lucky!! Your play and that piano just spectacular!
Simply gorgeous in every aspect.

Benjamin Smith the A192 is under Bechstein’s concert range, its Academy model is A190 (B190)

I own the next one up the range (B212) and absolutely love it. Bechstein builds fabulous grands.
Wow, this one is really gorgeous!

Lovely tone. Great playing.
Could this be one of the top contenders for your recording studio? Bechstien + James = magical experience! 👍🏼
Phenomenal playing!

Very nice tenor and bass for its size.

Hi, I have difficulties choosing a piano between bechstein concert192 and bluthner model 6, do you got any advice?
I like your new test piece. Really nice. Do you have somewhere the notes of it. The one you play from 3.54-5.55. Thanks so much.

Its Majesty: Carl Bechstein, of course!
Concert A192 = new naming of previous MP192?

Yeah, these have amazing bass. I'm excited to try out the bigger sizes someday, they must be incredible.

What is name of piece at 3:49 ?
I just call it my treble test piece.
James, could you please share the score of your treble test piece with us? I always listen to this song on your reviews and it's beautiful. 😀
