Never in my 65 years on planet Earth would I ever have imagined that I would feel a spark of joy over the hatching of a microscopic moss piglet. Thank you for astonishing. On so many levels.
I agree with you. I'm in the same situation! i found these shows awesome; And I LIKE Hank's voice, very calm and slow ,to expain on the screen...ANOTHER WORLD, microcosmos. A strange and weird world but...a lot of microscopic animals are...like us about body's functions!!!

When I saw the tardigrade hatch I realized. this is the first time I’ve ever seen such a event, but this even happens daily everywhere and has been for the past millions and millions of years
*"Sure they are unaware of our existence, but they are in our care."*
Imagine if there is some hyper dimensional being who observes our joys and sorrows, and on occasion, rudely pokes at us.
God: allow me to introduce myself
It is called KARMA.
Thuy Pham nah karma is a cruel concept
Event Hʘriךּon, so are most interpretations of God.
That's a pretty unavoidable conclusion given our universe. It came from something much bigger that you can call God or Infinity. It's just that people resist agreeing on the specifics. Ernst Nagel calls this the Cosmic Authority Problem. We don't like the idea of being watched. So it's more comfortable to call it Multiverse and pretend it can't see us anymore.
''That's why we took such care to keep her alive.''
*bashes her in the face with a giant stick*

yes she's pregnant, but she needs to go be pregnant in the kitchen. it's for her own good really.
ahahaha ohh come on! I was super gentle!

That giant stick is a single hair.
@@JamsGerms gentle yes! but it's still funny seeing this black stick just push around the water bear and its little bit of moses

@@tippib2222 i was dying to see this comment
"Tardigrades are unaware of us"
*proceeds to poke the mother with a brush*
This might be just me, but tardigrades could end up forming a religion/cult around that brush intervention.
"...and then the long and skinny guardian angel seized me and took me out of danger..." - From the book of Our Holy Mother.
All hail brush! All hail brush!
Mate397, nah they don’t have brains
@@eypick6987 Nor do they have books, despite my previous comment.
But does your comment imply that religious fanatics have brains?

*From one proud multi-cellular parent to another, congrats on the ruptured egg sack!*
A+ comment right here!
I have so many questions
😂😂😂. Wow. I ugly laughed🤣
Dude
We might be soulmates
Even microscopic babies have disproportionately large heads, and that makes them so damn cute!
so, would they technically be considered water bear cubs?
YES +
Absolutely
VicDraws +++!!!
Well they are also called water pigs by some, so either or. Water piglet sounds cuter though.

The microverse is a horrifying place. Thankfully its inhabitants lack the capacity to feel terror.
I hope.
This education content is unique, it should be shown in all schools
I agree
Too many obvious references to evolutionary biology for that. I attended school in rural Mississippi, and this stuff would have been considered taboo. That's why I'm grateful for information technology and channels like this.
KeithThe Iconoclast it’s kinda sad that people consider truth as taboo... :’(
@@ChaBawbe No doubt. I've met people in the south who believe dinosaur bones were planted by Satan to fool us.
Tried it, kids hated it. Too realistic for the 16 year olds. I fear for the human species.
This channel is such a treasure. Imagine if you could show these videos to biologists a hundred years ago.
"The Tardibabies" could absolutely be on Disney+ next year.
@@ARegularPie - It's Disney+, they are beyond that. I mean really, their current top kid's show is about a wanted bounty hunter killing lots and lots of people to protect a baby from being, at best, mutilated and experimented on. I actually love the show but we are many parsecs from "The Wonderful World of Disney" now.
The merch would be pretty small.

Rotifer And I’ll bring the microscopic diapers!
I whould love to come to! I’ll bring some extera snacks!
theres something so beautiful about these videos, the narration and music and everything.. i feel sorry for that immobile tardigrade mom too. i really do wonder what happened there.
Like Padme, she lost the will to live.
I felt some genuine grief.
I, too, felt genuine grief for the little mama & her babies.
Once we get engaged with this astonishing dimension, it's difficult to see such a loss. Empathy knocks us off the shelf in the most unexpected ways... anybody got a stepladder I can borrow???😲
They are the most precious little creatures ...I feel bad for the first mom who died though...maybe she couldn’t go into cryptobiosis because she wanted to stay awake to keep the babies safe....but I am happy for the ones that did make it, especially the late bloomer who was last to hatch
Rip the Tardigrade from last episode :(

This is awesome. You guys are really adding to science with these clips. I hope you are saving all the hours that didn't make it to the UA-cam edit just in case a researcher needs it
*Awwww.....who couldn't just love cute baby water bears?*
I love how the music over the egg hatching reflected how I would assume the little baby tardigrade felt at the time, growing into a crescendo as it finally escaped it's little shell

I use concave slides for this sort of work. They don't provide an all too easy to focus image but they're open so no cover slips. They do dry out faster though. So like anything they have their pros and cons.
NegativeInfinity, I put tiny bits of clay on the corners of the coverslip. It keeps it from crushing or pinning things unless I hit it with the objective.
@@evilsharkey8954 that's a good idea. I think I might try that.
Ive got a concave slide that’s meant to be used with a cover slip. The dip is tiny and you can barely feel there’s a dip at all but it does the job. Not too much movement up and down, but it doesn’t crush larger specimens.
0612rex, the clay method is for people using cheap, flat slides. Concave slides don’t need it because the bigger critters can hang out in the middle. I didn’t know there were shallow ones, though. Most of the ones I’ve seen have a pretty deep well.
Evil Sharkey they’re so shallow it’s difficult to tell what side is concaved just by looking. I’ve seen the deep ones made with plastic but the ones I’ve got are high quality glass. I think I got them for £10 for 10 slides.
Tardigrade: "OI, who just poked me???"
Ahhhhh! Two Tardigrade videos in a row, ahhhhh! ❤️❤️
I can imagine the poor mom who you kept having to poke, going, damnit! I want to move this way, not that way! You’re such good tardi grand parents 😁
I’m so happy you we able to get what you have! Don’t feel guilty over the momma that passed away...nature is nature, and there’s likely nothing you could have done!

Cheers!🍻
Spectacular footage, James!
One of the most awesome channels out there! Thank you for everything. Greetings from Rio Grande do Sul!
I'm curious: Do you keep the specimens indefinitely, destroy them, or return them to the wild?
I know they culture them, so I assume they rinse the slides back into the appropriate culture jars. I believe they are all local microbes, too, so they could technically be released without any risk of environmental harm.
@@evilsharkey8954 the way I understand it, they have that guy James collect the samples and record them in his country and the makers of the channel analyze the footage and provide commentary.
DeathsHead Knight, when I said “they” I meant James. There’s a video where you see some of his cultures and where he collects specimens.
@@evilsharkey8954 sneems
We keep the slides in humidity chambers in this way they don't get dry and we can observe them for a long time. We have some slides that are prepared months ago and everything on them is still alive! And when we need to discard them we wash the slides back into the jar!
"You should. It's great. There's poop." - Hank, 2020
This is absolutely incredible footage, and a fascinating biological process! Tardigrades are my favorite, and I loved watching that little baby 'chew' their way out of their egg! Thanks for putting so much effort into bringing this adorable tiny family into the world, and thanks for sharing the journey with us here!
All I could think at the end when something flitted in front of the camera was, "Hey, don't cross in front of the talent!"
I felt more emotions in this 10 minutes of a video about microscopic organisms than in the whole of the last weak, well done
Looove Tardigrades...as well as this channel. Keep it coming please.
More baby tardigrade videos please! I want to watch them grow up!!
Thank you, baby tenders! That looked like a lot of work, and seeing that egg hatch effected me!
And now I'm crying over families that were never meant to be, micro or macro

Ahhhhh! I forgot to take my happy pill last night so I've been very grumpy today and this vid made me so happy! I love water bears and hope to find one in the bog in my yard. What an amazing video. Just beautiful little guy!
Boy, do feel that sense of responsibility with micro animalia in lab. Last week, i caught a brine shrimp dancing around the lab supply of daphnia, and caught him on an uncovered depression slide, first under a dissection scope, then a compound. I figured the heat from the lamps would make the shrimp uncomfortable, so I kept replacing small amounts of water on the slide while I observed him.
And then, with a small pang of sadness, I decided to sterilize the slide (bleach-water) instead of returning the shrimp to the daphnia samples. I felt a bit guilty, but I also can't return brine shrimp to my daphnia colony.
....I will not cry over the tardigrade and her tardibabies.... I WILL NOT CRY!!!
What a precious episode!
