This was exceptionally helpful! Thank you so much. I was able to do this myself short of help to pull my fridge out. As a single woman I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be able to fix stuff with the help of people like you!
I had a certified LG repair man out to my house and his best guess was that the filter was defective. Turns out, through watching other videos and reading online, the innermost piece with the “teeth“ where the filter locks in was frozen and would not turn. Some people were able to loosen this inner piece with a flat head screwdriver, but mine wouldn’t budge so I had to change the whole assembly. Followed your video step-by-step and it was a breeze!
I think I have the same issue. What is the LG model number of your refrigerator? Is it LRFXS2503? If so, what is the part number for the water filter head assembly? Thx. John
I'm going to dad's house tomorrow to do this very thing. I'm really glad you posted this video! You did a great job explaining what needed to be done! Many thanks!
Very helpful. Thank you for posting this. I personally found the water filter housing core is very easy to damage, especially with non LG brand filters. In my case, my first filter replacement attached fine, it was when I replaced the third filter that I realized the housing was damaged and just happened to not leak with the second filter. When I attached the third filter, it leaked badly and I couldn't put the old filter back or use a new LG filter either. The damage can be very subtle as in my case. There is an inner gripper that locks into the filter head when you press a new filter into the housing. The inner core won't fit the new filter heads then you can't twist the filter to lock. In some cases the inside core is twisted and if it turns, it can be turned back to a 9 o clock 3 o clock orientation then attempt to reconnect a filter but if it just doesn't work, order the replacement housing on Amazon or any LG parts outlet and follow the instructions as found in this video. I am not a repair person but it was fairly easy to follow. Appliance repair is an experience all in itself. You call and someone schedules to come out. You pay them. The first trip is to basically confirm what is wrong then have to order a part. Lastly, they schedule a second trip and in most cases an average refrigerator repair I read online is $450. I purchased the housing for $40, a new LG filter for $46 and spent 30 minutes of my time. It was about as straight forward as an appliance repair can be. Thanks again, watching what you did helped me be brave enough to attempt it myself. I value repair staff quite a lot but some things are design issues waiting to break like soft plastic housings. This should be much more durable . I can't complain too much the replacement part was only 40 dollars. That is cheaper than an LED light replacement in some refrigerators. I was pleasantly surprised the part was so affordable. It's actually less expensive than the filter which is odd now I think of it : )
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I am a floor installer by trade but I think with a little common sense many tasks can be done by those who just give it a try. I am not a video editor so my videos are one shot and I just hope they are good enough for others to gain the confidence to attempt it. So glad it helped you.
Lots of videos showing how to replace the filter. Yours is the only one to show the next step (replacing the hardware the filter connects to). Awesome video for any DYI person.
OMG!! Thx, same thing happened to me yesterday, I called LG to make sure I had the right part no. and the CSR wanted me to schedule a repairman to come out to my house and put it in. Told her thx, but I've watched a couple YT and it seemed pretty straight forward. She wasn't too happy. Great video, I will use your link above, hope it gives you a few $. Don't worry about the quality of the video, I was impressed you handled 90% of the job with one hand, new subscriber now, anyone that can do that with one hand and in 20 min, is someone I will listen too!
This exact same thing just happened to me yesterday. Found your video and was able to get the part ordered and the fridge fixed a mere 24 hours later. Saved me money and a major headache! Thanks for the video!
Thanks!!!! This was a game changer for me. Like you said there is nothing on this repair. Before I found your video I was looking at a costly repair that turned out to be inexpensive and a relativley easy do it yourself job.
This video was great in assisting me in changing out the water filter assembly. I realized after I changed it out, you can easily use pliers or grips to quarter turn the piece just outside of the inner rings (12 and 6 position) back to the 9 and 3 position. The whole time I had been using a flat head and needle nose pliers to try and turn the inner notch. Hopefully this helps others and saves some time and money.
Was your filter leaking ? I’m having no luck - looks like new assembly - video comments says easy but not sure? How easy was it for you to replace housing?
Thank you so much Mr. Xcit!!! Theses instructions worked exactly for my LG LFXC2256S French door fridge. I rarely fix things myself, but after a deep internet search I found your video. The best part is that my gasket just came out and didn’t actually break so I saved an extra $55 for the part on top of the $125 service call and whatever an hour of labor they would have charged. You saved us $300, and it took less than an hour. Thank you kind sir! I’m sending you nothing but love right now. Cheers!
Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to produce this video. I have ordered the part from Amazon, and will do the replacement when it arrives in a few days. No need to apologize for the quality of the vid, it shows every step of removal and installation, you did a heck of a job one-handed. And single take,, with no edits too, super job! Thanks!
No problem Jim!!! I'm glad it helps take the mystery out of how to get this issue corrected. Good luck on the install it's really not a tough project. But a 20 minute job will save a couple hundred bucks for a tech to come out.
Thank you so much for this video! I was looking for a video to help me with my specific problem of not being able to REMOVE my water filter which was very stuck. Your advice to open the filter door and cartridge at a full 90 degrees wasn't on even the LG help site. Thank you! Will enjoy filtered water again :)
I had an issue with my LG where the inner connector for the filter head came out of alignment and I could not install a new filter. The inner connector has two small tabs that must be at the 9 and 3 o'clock position. Mine somehow were in the 12 and 6 position. It was an easy fix using an old filter, filing off the tabs on the filter, and then using it as a wrench to reset the tabs on the connector. I considered buying a new assembly and replacing as you show here. I will be saving this video for future reference for when I will have to replace the unit. Thank you for a great demonstration. BTW, I looked around and this is about a $400 fix including parts if you call a repairman to do it.
Thank you so much for this step-by-step video. This proud 70 year old grandma did this all by myself! It took me longer to unload some of the contents so it would be easier to move the frig out! Again, you did a great job and I so appreciate you taking your time to make this video! Now hoping the frig will cool as normal since it’s been without the water/ice maker for a week. Maybe that affects the defrost which affects the inside temp? 🤞🏻🙏🏻 Nancy
Thank you so much! I broke my filter head too and I would have been lost without your help! Everything happened just as you described it. I'm very grateful.
just got new LG fridge and after installing filter seeing how fragile the filter head is it was the first thing which pop on my mind. Installation of the filter was very hard and I had to push real hard to firmly fix the filter. Good to see the replacement is fairly easy in can I snap it in the future. We had cheap Whirlpool before and the filter installation was much easier than LG.
Master! Awesome real-time video, I was sweating more from watching you hand-hold and one-arm screwdriver (they make motorized models ;) My issue was the center fitting. A aftermarket model did not have the correct center configuration and damaged the center rotating fridge fitting. It rotates, like a valve, when the new cartridge in installed. Mine, the damaged center piece had broken its nib's off so to did not rotate the fridge valve's center back into alignment for a new install cartridge. $50 and all this same work (fortunately, easy !!!) and the bonus that the coils needed to be vacuumed out after 2 years, while the bottom plate was open.
Great help, thank you very much! I had the same problem. But from looking at the new water filter housing, I don't think it's designed to drop all the way down. If you pull it down, it will break. That's how my original one broke. Just FYI. Again, thank you for sharing this, saved me lots of time!
Thank you so much! Been looking for hours for some guidance on this particular model of filter base. I believe you have the only video up on it. You were easy to follow and explained it sufficiently despite the one handed camera work which did not detract from the invaluable information you provided. Thanks again.
Thank you xcit for taking the time to record a video of the repair. With the help of this video, I will be replacing my head assembly tonight. I'm assuming I broke it doing the same thing as you, since the new filter will not twist in. Thanks again.
Thank you SO MUCH for the video! I just printed out a label that says "To replace filter remove top shelf" and stuck it on the filter cover. Unfortunately, I have to wait 4 days for the repair guy to get here - it's covered on my extended warranty. If I could have gotten the part sooner from Amazon, I would have gone the self-replacement route.
Here's an update: Geek Squad guy came out and looked at it: "We're going to ship you the part and I'll come out and install it." I told them to ship me the part and I'll install it. They shipped it and I installed it. Just like the video. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Thanks very helpful. Do you know if those blue plastic tubes can be removed from the head? OR if theres an issue with them do you need to buy a whole new head? Was hoping it was a push connect so tubes can be replaced!
Very informative, thank you. You know that LG is an abbreviation for "Lowest Grade", right? I have a house full of their highly problematic appliances and quite literally each one I own has at least one major design, engineering and/or fabrication/QA problem. LG appliances appear to be designed to copy best-selling features found on other manufacturer’s appliances, and engineered to be the cheapest version possible. The following focus on the problems and disappointments we have had with LG appliances: REFRIGERATOR: Beyond the obvious filter problems, look at the drawer openings that have been restricted by the cheap, poor design of the appliance which relies on cantilevers and stops instead of full opening drawer glides. There is a bar in the drawer that pushes items off the drawer so that they end up falling into the gap under the drawer. My door ice maker always threw crushed ice everywhere when someone tried to put ice in their glass, and frequently froze into a solid block. I eventually quit fighting it and disabled the door ice maker. The other ice maker in the bottom freezer makes ice too fast and it freezes up easily as well. The door water filler is too far away from the filler lever so people who try to fill their glass and our floor gets sprayed by water. TELEVISION: The LG Sound bar I bought was not compatible with the remote control for the LG television that advertised itself as sound bar ready. The remote control has a button for a sound bar, it just would not work with their own product. In addition, shortly after my warranty expired the TV quit working. I went online and found out that I had to literally bake the motherboard in my LG TV to keep it working (true! do a search). That worked for about 18 months before replacing with another brand. FAN/MICROWAVE: (Over Range) First one I received from Amazon was defective when new. Too bad the installation kit and etc. had to be installed before powering up, so I couldn’t return all the parts until I received a replacement and thereby had the right parts to return. The replacement quit working 2 months after the warranty expired. The fan still works so we have been living with it for a while. We plan on replacing this noisy, low powered, poorly designed fan with a traditional range hood and cabinet modifications in the space above plus a separate microwave. RANGE: After we used this “gem” for a few weeks and with poor cooking results we researched to discover that this range doesn’t have a bottom element! We have never seen a thing before, but this is true. Nothing cooks right - even with their recommended pizza stone procedure and at as high as 500 degrees the bottom of the pizza is still soggy. Worst of all, the knobs on my range were apparently designed to unexpectedly turn on the stovetop elements by anyone leaning on or otherwise brushing against the range. We had a guest ignite a plastic bowl by accident. SUMMARY: A smart shopper will learn from my mistakes.
Great video, thanks! However, my filter head assembly has a tab at the back to keep it from tilting down more than about 45 degrees. When I made it tilt more, it snapped off the tab and the back of the filter head connector. So, at least for my assembly, it's best to only tilt the filter 45 degrees until it stops when changing out filters.
Thanks for the reply! Now I have to figure out what the heck is going on! With water line off, no leak, thus condenser/ice build up/drip pan gummed up not the source. I'm guessing one of the two ice cube makers. Thanks again!
Thanks xcit, extremely helpful! I had a quick question- before I saw this video, I had a really tough time getting a new filter to fit. I finally got it to fit, but I may have somehow caused a small drip that leaks down to under the freezer. In your experience, is it possible to create a drip due to a crack in the water filter head assembly that would leak down to the bottom of the freezer?
Leaking into the freezer from a cracked filter assembly is highly unlikely. You woukd see water on your refer shelfs or it would migrate down the water line hose. In which case you'd see water on your shelf first or the water woukd be on your floor if it was the hose. I'm not an expert in appliances but my handy skills and common sense direct me to that assumption. I have by trade installed flooring for 45 years so that is my actual fiekd of expertise.
Excellent video! Thank you so much! May I ask what filter your fridge uses? Trying to determine if the head assembly is compatible with the LT1000P filter. THANKS AGAIN! :-)
Excellent video, extremely helpful, I had same issue.I have one small comment to add , you could've recuperate black foam gasket around your original blue hose that was preventing from having like open space around your blue waterlines when it comes out of the fridge at the back, this way it helps to prevent loosing cold inside of the fridge i guess and your replacement part didn't come with it if I saw correctly in the video. I might be wrong but it's just my observation :p
I replaced my LG filter the other day and it has a small leak - It is OEM filter. LG suggested taking a screw driver and rotating the inner housing - didn’t work. New filter or new housing ?
LG should pay you for this! I noticed those white plastic things don't open (even with two hands - only slide). The water filter thing only rotates down about 30 degrees - so it is a design flaw in their filters that is making it so difficult to remove, leading to breaks when you try to do routine changes.
Great Video on how to do replacement but unsure of what part to order Amazon link reflects LG AKN72949003 Genuine OEM Filter Head Assembly for LG Refrigerators not sure if it will work on model LRFXS2503S the pic with compatible models doesn't list my model # any suggestions or do you think this part will work
The Akn72949003 is the part I bought from Amazon and it worked perfectly. Good luck with the installation and thank you for watching. Please consider subscribing that would be great.
You might have a different model. Try looking at the rear of the refrigerator and see where the water line comes into the unit. This should give you an idea where it's located.

Thank you glad to help
Thanks for the video! This was great and saved me a lot of money and time waiting for a repair person.
hey buddy, just successfully changed out the tubing, everything went accordingly, thx again for posting this!!!
Awesome Mike thanks for letting me know how it went! Your the man!
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! You saved me and so many others (from the comments below) SO much time, money and frustration!
Happy I could help you.
Thanks, for posting, just broke my water filter head this morning and have ordered replacement.

Thanks for the super informative video.. just successfully completed this project and probably saved a decent amount of cash! Thanks again!

I was wondering the the same thing
Thank you!!! Thanks for saving me time, money and the hassle of a service call.

Thanks! You’ve taken away a Hugh money maker for the appliance repair folks.
LG built this system to easily fail. Shame on them!

I also give you a tip of the hat thank you very much for taking the time.
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing on this. Really appreciate. I have the same problem and can’t anyone to fix it during COVID.
Excellent video. Preparing to replace mine tomorrow.
thank so much for the video help a lot
Amazing job and one handed to boot
Incredibly helpful video! You saved me hundreds of dollars!
You are the Man! You saved me hundreds of dollars!

I made the same mistake. Thanks for showing how to replace it.

This is great. Thank you for sharing!
Good! It worked and I saved money! Ty
Great Jorge!! Glad you did it and your welcome. Thank you very much for the comment.
You are correct, I peeled off the foam and installed it afterwards.
Do you know if all of these LGs are the same part number? Looks the same as ours, but not sure...
YOU ARE A LEGEND
Thank you Dewey. Your pretty awesome yourself.
May I get the model number part of this water filter head and the water filter which is compatible with it please?
Thx, good video, just ordered the replacement and air filters using your link above, hope it's your amazon affiliate link.
No I'm lot affiliated with any Amazon account. I did this to help my fellow people to save some money. Hope everything goes well with your install.
@@xcit thx, I ordered today
I replaced my LG filter the other day and it has a small leak - It is OEM filter. LG suggested taking a screw driver and rotating the inner housing - didn’t work. New filter or new housing ?
Sounds like new housings to me.
Thank you so much!!!! Exactly what happened to me. Life saver!
LG should pay you for this! I noticed those white plastic things don't open (even with two hands - only slide). The water filter thing only rotates down about 30 degrees - so it is a design flaw in their filters that is making it so difficult to remove, leading to breaks when you try to do routine changes.
Proclaim it from the tallest tower….MY WIFE HAS ICE AND COLD WATER AGAIN!!
Does the water line need to be loosened to just replace the water filter cover? (MCK69605201)
I changed my water filter yesterday , when I pull the water ,the new filter is separated by itself, I don’t know what is the problem.
Our head broke too trying to replace the filter.
Where can you order this part from?
Thanks for the video!
excellent instructions. thank you for posting. I was able to fix this myself without any assistance or problems!
So glad it helped.
A million thanks!
Your welcome
Nice job. Thank you!!
I stil can't find the filter. It's not In the top left :(
You might have a different model. Try looking at the rear of the refrigerator and see where the water line comes into the unit. This should give you an idea where it's located.

Is that piper I hear??
Sure is.The one and only.
I think you forgot to move a piece of foam from old part to new one to seal big gap around blue tubes in the hole.
